The Globsyn Management Conference based on VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and

ambiguity) was a very interesting. On the other hand, interactive research seminar helped us to
develop sense of hypothesis depending on the required literature survey. It was an experiential
learning for all of us.

The conference was held on 20th December 2019, the title of the conference was Integrated
Management for Business Sustainability in a VUCA World and was aimed at the academic
community, i.e. the faculty and the management students.

Volatility appears to be a norm, and complexity continues to accrue. Our world, much like a pile of
sand, is Volatile, given that things change, change quickly, and for reasons beyond our control. It is
Uncertain as gaining conviction about future outcomes and impact is ever more onerous and
perplexing. It is Complex since we, as individuals, are in ignorance of the interface between
multitudinous variables which we must ruminate upon, let alone how to integrate them effectively.
Finally, it is Ambiguous as the same data can yield compound and often competing elucidations. The
concept of a VUCA world: one that is Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous, is often used to
define the tumultuous, unpredictable, and rapidly metamorphosing environmental context heralded
by many as the “new normal” for corporates and business enterprises.

The conference was blessed with the august presence of eminent dignitaries from various fields such
as technology, Finance economics and marketing, HR & OB. We were delighted to have Mr. Gautam
Bhattacharya, general manager SBI as the keynote speaker with us on that day

The event was inaugurated with lighting of the lamp followed by Globsyn mantra. The first half of
the conference consisted of the inaugural and plenary session, followed by lunch. The second half
was devoted to seminars of different topics - economics, banking & finance, marketing & strategy,
and human resource management.

We were blessed to have presented a research project on economics, titled Microfinance and
women's empowerment: a literature review. The presentation was carried out under the strict
supervision of Dr. Anindita Sen of University of Calcutta, and Dr. Tanusree Chakraborty of Globsyn
Business School. A total of 7 papers were presented, which was a joint effort of the faculty and
students, with diverse topics such as women empowerment, variable pay and sustainable
development. It was a new and unique experience for all of us, and has made us more intuitive
about a career in academics. We would like to thank Globsyn Business School for giving us the
opportunity to be a part of the conference.
