1.3 PROFILE OF ENGINEERS PROVIDING MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
SERVICES IN BUILDINGS
Mechanical Engineer (In construction )
Job Scope
He/She designs and provides advice on various building services, such as lifts and escalators, air
conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, gas supply, materials handling and equipment such as engines, beilers,
pumps and compressors. He/She works with architects, structural, sanitary and electrical engineers. His!
Her main duties are to:
+ Planand design installations and test operations of mechanical services in buildings
+ Maintain and repair mechanical systems
+ Submit design and work plans to the relevant authorities
+ Evaluate tenders received for mechanical works
Personal Qualities
+ Responsible, practical and flexible
+ Good at communication with people
+ Have mechanical dexterity
Education and Training
+ Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised university and some local working,
experience
+ AGT EGTY Dip-Tech with 4-6 years experience in related workElectrical Engineer (In construction )
Job Scope
He/She designs and provides expert advice on lighting, power supply, lightning protection, fire and
security alarms, communication, power and control systems, instrumentation and microelectronics and
other electrical systems and equipment, He/She may specialise in industrial systems for factories, commercial
systems for offices, domestic systems for homes or other specialised systems. He/She may be stationed
full-time on the site to supervise electrical works. His/Her dutiesare to:
+ Plan, design and test electrical installations
+ Maintain and repair electrical systems
+ Prepare electrical specifications and operational procedures
+ Submit design and work plans to the relevant authorities
+ Supervise electrical works to meet safety standards
+ Communicate with architects, structural, sanitary and mechanical engineers

GUIDELINE - II
YCDC RULES AND REGULATIONS
Any building construction with four storeys and more ( in Yangon Area ) must basically
comply with YCDC building rules and regulations.
Specifically forM & E applications, the following are to be complied with:-
(1) Design and prepare Sewage & Water Supply Plan,
(2) Building Plan with Gap Dimension for
- Ventilation
- Natural Lighting
- Landscape
= _ Drainage/ water flow direction’ size of drain
(3) Building floor plan and roof.
- Legend for M & E fittings
- Type of M & E materials
- Water tank positioning
(4) Necessary documents to be ready for authorities INSPECTION
Design calculation requested for:
- Air conditioning and mechanical ventilation system
: Fire Protection system
- Other technical fixtures
(5) Airconditioning , Mechanical Ventilation, Fire Protection Installation
- Design calculations to be in compliance with requirements and regulations
- Location of M&E equipment to be specified
- Ceiling height must be minimum 12 ft for service rooms
- Air conditioning installation to be done where required
- Basement ( Car park ) exhaust air system to be installed
- Fire protection system according to Fire Services Dept. requirements
All Building Plans to complete with following drawings:
- Airflow direction
= Method of ventilation system
- Airflow rate (in cu-fY/ hr )
cesh air filter location
- Thermostat / remote control location
- Smoke detector location
- Fire detector location
- Therme hydrate location
- Air conditioning location, lines and ducting
- _ Kitcher plan for fire safety
- Fire escape way/ staircase
- Cooling tower, valves, control, duet for ACMV system
