Participation
The NATO CWIX programme is open to all nations
and organizations who meet the minimum entry
requirements. Participants must provide a
National/Organizational Lead who will attend all
planning conferences and execution.
Trials
In order for a nation or organization to participate in
NATO CWIX, all participants must:
1) Be sponsored by a participating Nation or NATO
Agency / Command / Organization
2) Be approved by the Senior Management Group (PfP
or NoN-NATO)
3) Meet NATO CWIX Goals and Objectives
4) Submit all required paperwork and documentation
by deadlines

Visitors
The VIP Visitor Day is for invited Flag Officers,
General Officers, and Government Civilian
Equivalents. Invitations to attend the VIP Visitor Day
will be sent out by the NATO CWIX Management
Team only. Each Nation / NATO Agency / NATO
Command is allowed to invite up to five VIP visitors.
National / NATO Agency / NATO Command Leads are
to provide a list of nominated VIP Visitors to the
NATO CWIX Management Team.
General visitors (Non-VIP Visitors) are those not
invited to attend the VIP Visitor Day. Non-VIP
Visitors are to be invited by the sponsoring Nation /
NATO Agency / NATO Command but should be
coordinated with the Management Team. The Nation /
NATO Agency / NATO Command who invited the
visitor is responsible for the visitor's visit. Non-VIP
Visitors who desire to view trials from another nations
should coordinate such with the Trial's sponsoring
nation / NATO Agency / NATO Command in advance.
Overview
The NATO Coalition Warrior Interoperability
Exercise (CWIX) is an annual NATO Military
Committee approved event designed to bring about
continuous improvement in interoperability for the
Alliance. Allied Command Transformation (ACT)
provides direction and management to the
programme, while NATO and Partner nations
sponsor interoperability trials with specific
objectives defined by ACT and National Leads.
The NATO CWIX programme focuses primarily on
testing and improving the interoperability of NATO
and national C4I systems, with particular emphasis
on those that would be deployed within a NATO
Response Force or Combined Joint Task Force.
In addition to bilateral technical testing, NATO
CWIX provides a venue to conduct technical testing
of fielded, developmental and experimental systems
in the context of a coalition scenario. NATO CWIX
runs concurrently with several national venues,
which share a common testing network.
NATO CWIX supports a broad audience of
operators, technicians, and technology planners by
providing a multi-functional environment in which:

Testers eXamination of interoperability among

generate scorecards.
Engineers eXperimentation with new

Planning
The annual planning cycle involves four NATO
conferences commencing with a Senior Management
Group (SMG) Meeting. The SMG Meeting is for the
voting body of the NATO CWIX programme
composed of the NATO CWIX Management Team,
National Leads, and other invited participants and
advisors such as NRF commands, NATO
Headquarters, and Allied Command Operations. The
SMG reviews and agrees on annual NATO CWIX
goals and objectives for final approval by the NATO
Military Committee.
Three planning conferences follow the NATO CWIX
SMG Meeting: the Initial Planning Conference
(IPC), typically occurring in autumn; the Mid
Planning Conference (MPC), typically occurring in
winter; and the Final Planning Conference (FPC),
typically occurring in late winter or early spring.
These planning conferences are open to all NATO
CWIX participants and serve as a way to coordinate
interoperability eXercise, eXamination,
eXperimentation and eXploration at NATO CWIX
Execution.
NATO CWIX 2011 Execution will be 30 May to 16
June at the Joint Forces Training Centre in
Bydgosczc, Poland.
