1. OVERVIEW

The DrillSIM range of well control simulators are produced by Drilling Systems (UK) Ltd.
and come in a variety of different product ranges & sizes. This manual has been produced
to help the Instructor setup the simulator quickly, easily and with the minimum amount of
fuss. Before commencing, you should familiarise yourself with which of the DrillSIM
Simulators you are operating – this information can be gathered by looking on the right
hand side of each of the Hardware panels where a small brass plaque will be found, an
example of which is presented below:

This panel gives not only the System type (in this case a DrillSIM-50 Mini Portable Well
Control Simulator) but also the Component type (in this case, the BOP Control Panel) and
Serial Number. If you have any problems, be sure to have this information available.

3. DRILLSIM-50 MINI-PORTABLE

The DrillSIM-50 range of Mini Portable Well Control simulators is divided into 2 distinct
groups, the Mark I and Mark II. The Mark I simulators run on Serial Comms (9 pin
connector), whereas the Mark II simulators run on TCPIP Comms (Standard RJ-45 Network
cable).

3.1 DrillSIM-50 – MARK 1

3.1.1 Hardware & Panel Configuration

There are 4 Hardware Controls with the standard DrillSIM-50 – the Driller’s Panel (Blue),
the Manifold panel (Silver) the Choke Panel (Orange) and the BOP Panel (Red). In
addition, there will be a U.P.S. (Uninterruptable Power Supply), a Laptop PC, a Hewlett
Packard Deskjet Printer and an LCD touchscreen.
