The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), India’s premier Social Science
Institute, seeks highly motivated, creative and competent senior management
professionals to provide management support to the Institute’s fast expanding
teaching, research, training, consultancy and public policy work.

1. Deputy Registrar -1 post for OPEN - Pay Band Rs.15600-39100, Grade


Pay Rs.7600. With 5 years experience in the post of Deputy Registrar, the
Pay Band is Rs.37400-67000, Grade Pay Rs.8700.
Nature of Appointment: Regular
Essential Qualification/Experience: A Master’s Degree or qualifications
recognized as equivalent thereto in the faculty of
Commerce/Management/Finance from a recognized University or its equivalent
with at least 55% of marks or its equivalent grade of ‘B’ in the UGC seven
point scale, OR Chartered Accountant, along with 9 years’ of experience as
Assistant Professor in the AGP of Rs.6000 and above with experience in
educational administration, OR comparable experience in research
establishment and/or other institutions of higher education, OR 5 years’ of
administrative experience as Assistant Registrar or in an equivalent post, in the
areas of Finance and Accounts. Certificate/Diploma in Business Administration
will be an added qualification.

Desirable : Should have a strong background in finance and possess substantial


general management experience at a middle management level and should be
highly proficient in computerized accounting and financial management
systems. Should also have proven expertise in working and leading the teams.
Possess good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interface with
multiple constituencies – students, teachers, staff at all levels, government,
media and public. Should also posses sound knowledge of prevalent national
standards, statutory provisions and good practices with respect to financial
management & accounting, taxation, MIS and ERP solutions.
2. Deputy Registrar (Internal Audit) -1 post for OPEN - Pay Band
Rs.15600-39100, Grade Pay Rs.7600. With 5 years experience in the post of
Deputy Registrar, the Pay Band is Rs.37400-67000, Grade Pay Rs.8700.
Nature of Appointment: Fixed tenure of Five years.

Essential Qualification/Experience: A Master’s Degree or qualifications


recognized as equivalent thereto in the faculty of
Commerce/Management/Finance from a recognized University or its equivalent
with at least 55% of marks or its equivalent grade of ‘B’ in the UGC seven point
scale, OR Chartered Accountant, along with 9 years’ of experience as Assistant
Professor in the AGP of Rs.6000 and above with experience in educational
administration, OR comparable experience in research establishment and/or other
institutions of higher education, OR 5 years’ of administrative experience as
Assistant Registrar or in an equivalent post, in the areas of Finance and Accounts.
SAS examination pass will be an added qualification.

Desirable : Should have a strong background in finance and possess substantial


general management experience at a middle management level and should be
highly proficient in computerized accounting and financial management systems.
Should also have proven expertise in working and leading the teams. Should
posses sound knowledge of audit practices.

3. Deputy Librarian -1 post for OPEN – Pay Band Rs.15600-39100,


Academic Grade Pay Rs.8000. With 3 years experience in the post of Deputy
Librarian, the Pay Band is Rs.37400-67000, Academic Grade Pay Rs.9000.
Nature of Appointment: Regular.
Essential Qualification/Experience: Master’s degree in Library
Science/information science/documentation with at least 55% of the marks or its
equivalent grade of B in the UGC seven point scale and consistently good
academic record along with at least 5 years’ experience as an Assistant University
Librarian/College Librarian; Evidence of innovative library services, published
work and professional commitment, experience of computerization of library;

Desirable: M.Phil./Ph.D. degree in library science/information


science/documentation/archives and manuscript-keeping, computerization of
library.
4. Assistant Manager (Publications)-1 post reserved for OBC – Pay Band Rs.
Rs.15600-39100, Grade Pay Rs.5400
Nature of Appointment: Regular.
Master’s degree from a recognized university in India or abroad, with at least 55%
of the marks or its equivalent grade in any discipline.

Preferred Qualification: A master’s degree in communication/public


relations/journalism with specialization in marketing, writing and editorial skills. A
minimum of two years in publishing, either in editorial/marketing. Candidates
must be familiar with computerized administrative systems and processes.

Preferred Experience: Knowledge of DTP prgrammes like CorelVentura,


CorelDraw, Adobe Indesign, and QuarkXPress, etc.

Age: Not exceeding 35 years.

5. Health Officer (Rural Campus) – 1 post reserved for PWD (OH) – Pay
Band Rs. Rs.15600-39100, Grade Pay Rs.5400
Nature of Appointment: Regular.
MBBS degree recognized by the Medical Council of India. Must have completed
Compulsory Rotating Internship. Working knowledge of Marathi and Hindi
languages.

Age: Not exceeding 35 years.

GENERAL CONDITIONS:

The Institute reserves the right to: (a) relax any of the requirements with reference
to age and experience in exceptional cases and/or in the case of persons already
holding comparable positions, on a regular basis, in a University/research
institution of repute, b) invite persons for interview who may not have applied for
as per the above procedure, (c) to fill up vacancies rising, (d) not to fill up any of
the vacancies advertised; (i) Since applications received may be short listed,
merely possessing the prescribed qualifications and the requisite experience would
not entitle a person to be called for an interview; (ii) No queries or correspondence
regarding issue of call letters for interview/selection of candidates for the post will
be entertained at any stage and canvassing will lead to the candidate being
debarred from consideration for the post; (iii) Reservation and relaxation in age
and work experience for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates are applicable as per
Government of India rules; (iv) Outstation candidates called for interview will be
reimbursed IIIrd A.C.Class Rail fare, to and fro, by the shortest route, on
production of railway tickets. (v) SC/ST candidates will be given free
accommodation (lodging only) in the hostel for overnight stay subject to the
availability of rooms at the time of interview, if requested in advance. The crucial
date of determining the age limit and length of experience shall be 26-03-2010, i.e.,
the closing date for receipt of applications. Selected candidates are liable to be
posted in any of the three campuses of the Institute. Persons in employment should
apply through their employer, or attach ‘No Objection Certificate’ without which
no applications will be entertained under any condition.

Application Form-I can be downloaded from the website www.tiss.edu and to be


sent complete in all respect along with the application fee of Rs.200/- by Demand
Draft. Candidate is also required to fill up Form-II on line before the last date.
The prescribed application Form-I, along with the details of qualifications,
experience and other requirements prescribed for the above posts can be obtained
from the Assistant Registrar (Personnel), either in person between 10.30 a.m. to
1.00 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. on working days (Monday to Friday) OR on
written request accompanied by a self-addressed stamped (Rs.25/-) envelope (23 x
8 cms), superscribed “Request for recruitment application form”. The Demand
Draft (Account Payee Only) should be drawn in favour of Tata Institute of Social
Sciences, Mumbai. The bank drafts should be valid for six months. No Postal
Orders will be accepted. For SC/ST/PWD candidates, application forms will be
supplied free of cost on production of valid certificate in prescribed format given
by Government of India. Only application forms prescribed by the Institute will be
accepted. If a candidate desires to apply for more than one post, he/she should
make a separate application for each post with fee. The candidate should clearly
note that the Institute would not be responsible for non-receipt of their application
or any delay in receipt thereof on any account.

Applications on plain paper or without the following enclosures or incomplete


applications will be rejected:

(1) Supporting documents (degree, diploma, certificates, mark-sheets and


testimonials) of qualifications and experience.
(2) Certificate showing the date of birth.
(3) SC/ST/OBC/PWD certificate (in the prescribed format given by
Government of India).
(4) No Objection Certificate from the employer.

Those who do not have the required marks/grade or the specific field of
specialization, need not apply. The completed applications together with copies of
certificates and the required enclosures, should reach the Assistant Registrar
(Personnel) on or before 26-03-2010.
