Needs Assessment and Identification of Problems Experienced by Farmers in Masalipit, San

Miguel Bulacan
Introduction

In the year of 2020, The Philippines is still an agricultural country despite of planned

industrialization from build build program of the current government. Majority of the citizens

living in rural areas are still support themselves through agriculture. In this study we will focus

on small scale farmers who makes up the majority of vegetable production in our country.

“Small-scale farmers are faced with many challenges on a daily basis. In addition, they

have several needs that, if fulfilled, could help reduce some of their challenges. The small-scale

farmer remains an ideal target audience for Extension staff due to the increasing number of these

farms combined with the limited impact that they can have with the current set of resources.”(

Goodwin & Gouldthorpe, 2013, p.54).

In year 2019, Masalipit is one of the Barangay chosen for the constructions of farm to

market roads, in this scenario the factors of transportation will be eliminated since the travel

from the Barangay to Nearby market is lessen. “With better roads, farmers are motivated to plant

more because they now have more efficient market access. This resulting increase in production

and income improves the quality of life in remote rural areas.” (Shanina, 2015)

Because of the Development, Travel time a big factor is now eliminated in the problems

of many farmers. It will open the path of determining other problems that affects the daily life

basis and production of farmers.
