PEMBAHASAN

A. Pengertian Past Continuous Tense

Past continuous tense atau past progressive tense adalah suatu bentuk kata kerja
yang digunakan untuk menyatakan bahwa suatu aksi sedang terjadi pada waktu tertentu
di masa lampau. Aksi tersebut telah dimulai tapi belum selesai pada saat itu.

B. Penggunaan

1. Untuk menyatakan suatu peristiwa yang sedang berlangsung pada waktu

lampau.
2. UntukUntuk menyatakan suatu peristiwa yang sedang berlangsung dimana ada
peristiwa lain terjadi, pada waktu lampau.
3. UntukUntuk menerangkan peristiwa yang sedang terjadi, secara bersamaan
dengan peristiwa lain di waktu lampau.

C. Keterangan waktu

Keterangan waktu untuk Past Continuous Tense antara lain :

a. - … when : ketika

b. - while : sementara

c. - … as : ketika

 the whole day yesterday

 all day yesterday
 all (morning, night)
D. Susunan kalimat

1. Positive (+)

Subject + was/were + V-ing

Ex : I was writing a story

2. Negative (-)

Subject + was/were + not + Ving

Ex: They were not playing tennis

3. Interrogative (?)

Was/were + Subject + verb ing ?

Ex: Was he going to school?

E. Penggunaan Active dan Passive

1. Active:

Subject + was/were + -ing form of the verb + object

Passive:

Object of the active sentence + was/were + being + past participle form of the verb + by
+ subject of the active sentence

Example :

Active : Why were you cheating me?

Passive : Why was I being cheated by you?

Active : Which book were you reading?

Passive : Which book was being read by you?

PENUTUP

Past continuous tense atau past progressive tense adalah suatu bentuk kata kerja yang
digunakan untuk menyatakan bahwa suatu aksi sedang terjadi pada waktu tertentu di
masa lampau. Aksi tersebut telah dimulai tapi belum selesai pada saat itu.

Keterangan waktu untuk Past Continuous Tense antara lain :

- … when : ketika

- while : sementara

- … as : ketika

 the whole day yesterday

 all (morning, night)
