Belle

A slouchy beret worked in a simple lace drop stitch pattern with a ruffled texture that shows off a
small mount of a silky luxurious yarn beautifully. The picot hem adds a sturdier edge and is finished
with a cute, but optional, ribbon bow.

Supplies

Approximately 180 metres of double knitting / sport


weight yarn. I used 2 balls of Louisa Harding Grace
Silk & Wool.
40cm 3.75mm circular needle or size needed to get
correct guage.
Circular needle of any length in a smaller size.
Set of 4 3.75mm double pointed needles.
Smooth scrap yarn.
4mm crochet hook.
Stitch marker.
Yarn needle with large eye.
20 cm of 5mm wide elastic.
80 cm of 15mm wide ribbon.
Sewing thread and needle.
Clear nail varnish.

Instructions

Provisionally cast on 90 sts with larger circular needles. I use this


http://knittingatknoon.com/provisional.html method but use whichever method you prefer.

Join rnd, placing marker to mark beginning of the rnd, and knit 8 rnds.
Next rnd: (k2tog, yo) to end.
K 3 rnds.
Next rnd: k56, k2tog, yo twice, k2tog, k to end.
Next rnd: k to double yo, drop 1 wrap and k and p into yo, k to end.
K 3 rnds.

Undo the provisional cast on and slip the held stitches onto smaller needle. Fold along the
eyelet row so that the cast on stitches are behind the working ones.
Next rnd: with main needles (k1 st from working needle, k1 st from cast on) to end. (180 sts)
K 3 rnds.
*Next rnd: knit, wrapping yarn 3 times around needle as each stitch is worked.
Next rnd: knit, dropping 2 extra loops on every stitch.
Rep last 3 rnds twice.
Next rnd: (k4, k2tog) to end. (150 sts)
Next rnd: knit, wrapping yarn 3 times around needle as each stitch is worked.
Next rnd: knit, dropping 2 extra loops on every stitch.
Next rnd: (k3, k2tog) to end. (120 sts)
Next rnd: knit, wrapping yarn 3 times around needle as each stitch is worked.
Next rnd: knit, dropping 2 extra loops on every stitch.
Next rnd: (k2, k2tog) to end. (90 sts)
Next rnd: knit, wrapping yarn 3 times around needle as each stitch is worked.
Next rnd: knit, dropping 2 extra loops on every stitch.
Change to dpns, arranging 30 sts on each of 3 needles.
Next rnd: (k1, k2tog) to end. (60 sts)
Next rnd: knit, wrapping yarn 3 times around needle as each stitch is worked.
Next rnd: knit, dropping 2 extra loops on every stitch.

Rep from * to end once. 20 sts remain.


Next rnd: (k2tog) to end.

Break yarn leaving a 20cm tail and using yarn needle thread tail through 10 remaining stitches,
pull tight and weave in ends.

Cut ribbon in half and whip stitch to each end of the elastic with sewing thread. Thread ribbon
onto yarn needle and thread through hem of beret using hole made by double yarn over. Tie
ribbon in a bow and seal ends with clear nail varnish.
