Profitabilitas dapat dilihat secara berbeda untuk tujuan yang berbeda. Hal
ini dikarenakan profitabilitas didefinisikan berbeda oleh ekonom, akuntan,
pemilik, dan manajer. Jenis-jenis rasio profitabilitas dapat berjumlah sangat
banyak dan penggunaannya dilakukan berdasarkan kebutuhan.

Current ratio yang diterima dan diterapkan secara internasional adalah 2:1 yang
berarti aset lancar harus dua kali hutang lancar. Current ratio yang melebihi 2:1
menunjukkan bahwa perusahaan memiliki banyak aset lancar atau kurangnya
kredit yang diterima dari supplier atau bank.

Parameter baru pengembangan dari current ratio yang telah diperbaiki
adalah Quick Ratio (atau biasa disebut Acid Test Ratio atau Liquid Ratio). Dalam
perhitungan rasio ini, persediaan tidak diperhitungkan dalam aset lancar dan bank
overdraft tidak diperhitungkan dengan hutang lancar.
Capital Structure
Dalam kondisi global yang sangat dinamis seperti saat ini, tidak ada satu
teori atau struktur modal perusahaan yang dapat bekerja secara konsisten dalam
seluruh fase perkembangan perusahaan. Perusahaan harus selalu waspada dalam
memonitor capital structure karena bisnis model dapat berubah secara cepat
dalam era globalisasi ini.
Perencanaan struktur modal perlu dilakukan pada dua level yang berbeda
yaitu pada level mendasar saat pembentukan perusahaan dan dalam level ekspansi
dan diversifikasi.

Rasio diatas dpat digunakan sangat efektif untuk penilaian kinerja melalui
berbagai perbandingan. Perbandingan paling penting adalah : aktual vs target,
aktual vs rata rata dalam industri, aktual vs terbaik dalam industri, aktual vs
pesaing, aktual tahun ini vs tahun sebelumnya.
