memengaruhi tumbuh kembang anak yaitu faktor usia anak, pendidikan ibu, penghasilan
keluarga, jumlah anak, beban kerja ibu, pola asuh psikososial, kepribadian orangtua, adat

LITERATURE REVIEW
1. The Growth and Development of Children
The process of life from birth to death has its own stages. Since conception until the
end of adolescence, children have their own characteristic which is always growing and
developing. The process of growth and development started since the third month of
pregnancy. That phase continuously happen until the age of 3. Toddlers under 5 years old
or as called golden period and toddlers under 3 years old or the critical period are the most
rapid growth and development age of the human brain. During this age, the brain is more
plastic compared to the adult brain. Therefore, toddlers are very open and sensitive in
receiving many kinds of learning and enrichment, positive or negative. Toddler's growth
and development will be optimalized when their surroundings give positive support .
Growth is related to the increase of amount and size of body cells and it can be observed
from weight, height, and head circumference (Fida and Maya, 2012).
The age of 1-3 is the early stage of development, where children become human as a
whole, learn to speak, walk, solve problems, and build relationships with the adults or their
peers. In the age of 1-3, children are able to act according to their own will, thus they need
to be paid close attention. During this age, the speed of growth starts to decrease and
instead there's advancement of motoric abilities and and excretion. Other than the rapid
improvement of physical abilities, the brain development is also important for learning
process and intelligence development, motoric abilities, and linguistic and oral skills, and
also social capabilities and independency (Depkes RI, 2006).
Adequate food substance is needed for growth and development. Children are
categorized as nutrition-sensitive. They are prone to malnutrition and other nutrition-
related disorders due to lack of nutrients. Children needs delicate attention and care in
terms of their nutrition supply (Hidayat, 2012).
The growth and development of mouth and teeth is influenced by nutrition. The early
stage of dental growth is mostly affected by Ca, P, F, and vitamins in their diet. Nutritions
and the condition of socioeconomy influence the growth of children, especially in jaw-
shaping and teeth eruption. Children with better socioeconomic condition receive better
treatments and nutrients, thus affects the development of their face, jaw, and teeth
(Hairunis, 2018).
