This study aims to analyze the understanding of concepts and problem solving abilities of
students using the Blended Problem Based Learning model in human respiratory system
material. The data research subjects in this study were 8C grade student of Al-Azhar 29
Islamic Middle School Semarang. The method of data collection in this study is test and
interviews. The type of research uses a combinations of research methods (mix methods) and
a type of sequential explanatory research design. The instruments used were syllabus, RPP,
question grid, three tier multiple choice questions, understanding concepts and problems
describing problem solving skills, interview guidelines, assessment rubrics and validation
sheets. Quantitative data analysis was used to measure the level of understanding of the
concept through three tier multiple choice diagnostic test,for problem solving abilities was
measured by a description test that contained indicators of problem solving
abilities.Qualitative data analysis used data from interview questions about tests to describe
the level of conceptual understandng and problem solving abilities. The results of this study
found that the profile of conceptual understanding of students understood the concept of
49%, the misconception category was 48%, and the category didn’t understand the concept
by 3%. The level of problem solving abilities of students including grouped into 4 categories.
A very good category of 5%, a good category of 37%, a fairly good category of 42% and
nfavorable category of 16%. Suggestions in this study should teachers as a facilitators should
be more enhanced and more assertive to students in using google classroom media. Futher
research should be carried out regarding the implementation of blended problem based
learning models related to other variables.
