Topic
The corrective measures against the fuser belt edge tear were informed by the previous Service Bulletin below (*).
However, the corrective measures described in this Service Bulletin are no more required since the adjustment
method at the production line has been changed to more precise since April 2012.
Therefore, please execute the field measures by using following the flow chart.
(*) Corrective measures 1: SB-2LF-0003-B345: New FILM FUSER ADJUSTS (302K902C30) added to the
PLATE FUSER JOINT

Checking method when the flange key gets under the U-shape of the heat roller

TASKalfa 8000i / 6500i and TASKalfa 7550ci / 6550ci

Detach the fuser unit and then check whether the flange keys of the machine front and rear side do not get under
the inside heat roller and whether the flange key is not raised due to being pressed by the heat roller.
(Note) Please shift the fuser belt aside when checking whether the flange keys do not get under the inside heat
roller.
Please refer to Step 5 and 6 in Sheet 5) for details of the way to shift the fuser belt.

(Attention) If the heat roller is hot, please cover it with cloth instead of directly touching it by hand.

TASKalfa7550ci/6550ci Adjusting the position of MOUNT FUSER JOINT

If MOUNT FUSER JOINT is improperly fitted, the fuser unit is twisted to cause the belt skew and belt tear.
In case the belt is torn, refit MOUNT FUSER JOINT at the proper position in the procedures below.

(Items to be used)
Tool, (-->) Film (thickness is 0.125mm) <-- These parts were already supplied.

Step Checking contents


1 Open CONVEYING UNIT.
2 Remove COVER WIRE FUSER by removing the screw (3X8B(S) III SR).
3 Disconnect 2 connectors and remove 4 screws (4X12B(S) III SR). And detach FUSER UNIT.
4 Loosen 3 screws (3X8B(S) III SR) that fix MOUNT FUSER JOUNIT and PLATE FUSER JOINT.
* Don't remove 3 screws.

5 Slide PLATE FUSER JOINT backward.


6 Install Tool while aligning it to the rear and to the side of the machine.

(-->) 7 Insert Film in between Tool and 2 pins of MOUNT FUSER JOINT.
(-->) 8 While pressing the following 3 points down, Press 2 pins of MOUNT FUSER JOINT down

14 To reconfirm, set the tool along the machine rear and side (Refer to procedure 6 and 7 for detail)
Then, press down the tool and confirm there is no clearance at 5 points below.

 --> Remove the film and the tool, and go to "Step 15"

 --> Loosen 2 screws fixing MOUNT FUSER JOINT, and return to "Step 4"

15 Reattach FUSER UNIT and secure it using 4 screws (4X12B(S) III SR).
16 Reconnect 2 connectors of FUSER UNIT to the connectors in the main machine.
17 Refit COVER WIRE FUSER and secure it using the screw (3X8B(S) III SR).
18 Close CONVEYING UNIT.
TASKalfa8000i/6500i Adjusting the position of MOUNT FUSER JOINT

If MOUNT FUSER JOINT is improperly fitted, the fuser unit is twisted to cause the belt skew and belt tear.

14 Reattach FUSER UNIT and secure it using 4 screws (4X12B(S) III SR).
15 Reconnect 2 connectors of FUSER UNIT to the connectors in the main machine.
16 Refit COVER WIRE FUSER and secure it using the screw (3X8B(S) III SR).
17 Close CONVEYING UNIT.
Checking the amount of the fuser belt shift
TASKalfa 7550ci / 6550ci, TASKalfa 8000i / 6500i

No. Procedures
1 Pull out the paper conveying unit.
2 Remove the screw (3X8B(S) III SR) and remove the COVER WIRE FUSER.
3 Disconnect 2 connectors and remove 4 screws (4X12B(S) III SR). And detach FUSER UNIT.
4 Check which the fuser belt has shifted to the machine front side or the machine rear side.
Align the fuser belt forward according to the following if it has stepped aside to the machine rear side after checking at
Procedure 4.
<Way to align the fuser belt forward>
Rotate the gear while twisting FUSER UNIT toward the following directions till the belt edge approaches to the flange
gear of the machine front side.
(Note) As for the way to align the fuser belt, please watch the following video supplied at the same time as Service
Bulletin SB-2K9-0027-C236.

Align the fuser belt backward according to the following if it has stepped aside to the machine front side after checking
at Procedure 4.

Measure the gap a/a' between the flange gear and


the fuser belt edge of the aligned side at
Procedure 5 or 6 before reattaching the fuser unit
in the machine.
- In the case of aligning the fuse belt forward. Belt

7 - In the case of aligning the fuse belt backward. Machine rear a Machine

(The gap a/a' is 0mm or nearly 0mm.)

[Note]
Refer to Procedure 12 for the way to measure.

8 Reattach the fuser unit in the machine.


i) Open the right cover and turn on the main switch.

ii) Change the following settings at the maintenance mode U161.


(For 7550ci/6550ci only. This procedure is not required for 8000i/6500i.)
 - Full Speed Shift(Center): Change the setting from 40 to 155.
 - Pressure(Press): Change the setting from 100 to 157.

iii) After confirming the operation panel displays COVER OPEN indication, close the right cover.
(The machine starts the drive.)

iv) Open the right cover at just 10 seconds after closing it, and turn off the Power key on the operation panel.
And turn off the main switch after confirming the blinking main power LED is turned off.
10 Detach the fuser unit from the machine.
Measure the gap b/b' between the flange gear
and the fuser belt's edge that is the same side as
the gap a/a' measured before driving.

Refer to Procedure 12 for the way to measure.

11 As a result, the numerical value taken a/a' from

* If the setting was changed at the maintenance
mode U161, please surely recover the setting after
finishing this check work.

[Way to measure the gap between the fuser belt's


edge and the flange gear]
Metal measure
Measure the gap between the flange gear and the
belt edge by aligning the metal measure's edge to
the flange gear like the figure.
- Align the metal measure to the belt without Heat roller Belt
floating its scale.
- Align the metal measure vertically against the
flange gear. Flange gear
- Measure it with 0.1mm unit.
- Take care not to damage the belt's surface by
the metal measure. Metal measure

In normal cases, the belt may totally shift to the fuser rear
side (more often) or the front side. This is not causing a
Flange problem.
gear The maximum shifting of the fuser belt after 10 seconds
Belt of fuser rotation should not exceed 0.3mm.
In cases of measured higher shifting please adjust the
MOUNT FUSER JOINT.
