ED8

TCP/IP Dialler

Installation Manual

MICRON SECURITY PRODUCTS LTD

September 2007
ED8 TCP/IP Dialler
The ED8 is a TCP/IP through ethernet alarm dialler with eight zone inputs. Each zone
input may be independently configured as one of three options:

1. Closed loop n/o or n/c selectable (reports ‘alarms and restores’ only)
2. 1 x 4K7 EOL resistor (reports ‘alarms and restores’ only)
3. 2 x 4K7 EOL resistors (reports ‘alarms’ + ‘tampers + restores’)

The ED8 has four outputs, two with relays and two further outputs configured as open
collector. Each of the relay outputs may be configured by ‘jumper’ selection as:

1. no/com/nc clean relay contacts

2. Supply +12 Volts when switched
3. Supply Gnd (-ve) when switched

The ED8 dialler transmits Contact ID format over the internet. The ED8’s factory IP
address is 192.168.1.27

The ED8 incorporates an RS485 bus with an SGD protocol for fire alarm applications in
New Zealand only.

Output Definitions

Output 1 Relay turns on for the duration of a data transmission

Output 2 Router reset (see TCP/IP Setup)
Output 3 Alternates on and off every second
Output 4 Turns on for the router reset time (see TCP/IP Setup)

Dialler Setup

Login to the secure micron web site with a valid “username: and “password” at
www.micronsecurity.com

Click on “Downloads”
Click on “Software”
Download the ED8 dialler set up files TCP_IP_Dialer_Setup.zip
Unzip these files and save in a folder named TCP_IP Dialler

Connect the ED8 TCP/IP dialler to your hub or ASDL router.

Double click on Dialer_Setup.exe and click on Connect Dialler and the ethernet
connection will be established with the ED8 and the Account tab in the ED8 setup
software will become active.

There is a transmission indicator beneath the IP address which shows the dialler status.

While the ED8 is connected to the setup software it will not transmit data to the central
station receiver and will disconnect from the setup software after 5 minutes of inactivity.

Dialler Account Setup

Click on the Account tab to setup the ED8 dialler account details.

Account Number Enter the 4 digit customer account number. This is the
Contact ID customer number normally supplied by
the central station.

User Name Enter customer user name

Password Enter customer password

Now click on the Setup Dialler button to save this data.

TCP/IP Setup

Click on the TCP/IP tab to setup the ED8’s TCP/IP parameters.

Dialler Mac Address No action required (change only when a network Mac address
conflict occurs)

Destination IP Address1 IP address of the central station receiver **

Destination IP Port 1 Port identifier of the central station receiver **

Destination IP Address2 IP address of a 2nd central station receiver **

Destination IP Port 2 Port identifier of the 2nd central station receiver **

** This data is supplied by the central monitoring station

Local Port No action required

Auto Inc Defaulted to ticked

Local port identifier incremented with each transmission. If
not ticked then the Local Port count is not incremented

DHCP Defaulted to ticked

If the network router is set to DHCP then this must be ticked
and the IP address will be automatically allocated by the router.
If the network router is not set to DHCP then a unique IP
address must be entered for the ED8 dialler.

Gateway IP Only appears when DHCP is not ticked. The network

administrator must assign a gateway address if not ticked.
Dialler IP Only appears when DHCP not ticked. The network
administrator must assign an IP address if not ticked.

Output 2 On If the router fails to communicate, then the output 2 relay

opens for this time to enable a router reset.

Router Reset This is the dialler delay before attempting to resend data.

Now click on the Setup Dialler button to save this data.

Zone Inputs and Events

Click on the Inputs and Events tab to define 1, Contact ID Event Codes, 2, whether
each input is Balanced or NO/NC, and 3, the Zone input sensitivity (Debounce time).

Inputs 1-8 Each zone may be independently programmed by clicking on

the zone ‘Input’ tab. Zones not programmed are inoperative.
If the ‘Single EOL’ or ‘Dual EOL’ tabs are not ‘ticked’ zones
are defaulted to ‘Closed Loop’ n/c operation. The ‘Invert’ tab
may be used to switch any zone to n/o operation.

Event codes Default ‘Burglary’ and ‘Tamper’ Contact ID codes are pre-
programmed but may be changed. Only 2 codes are
programmed for ‘Closed loop’ and ‘Single EOL’.
If ‘Dual EOL’ is selected the setup software will insert the 4
default ‘Burglary’ and ‘Tamper’ codes.

Debounce Time Select each zone’s input sensitivity in multiples of 10

milliseconds. Minimum sensitivity is 10 milliseconds.
Maximum sensitivity (trigger delay) is 10 minutes.
Example: Enter 100 = 100 x 10 m/s = 1000 m/s = 1 second.

Now click on the Setup Dialler button to save this data.

Internal Events

Click on the Internal Events tab for the ED8 Contact ID system event codes.

System Reset CID Code Sent to the central station each time the ED8 is powered on

Mains Failed CID Code Sent to the central receiving station if the mains failure is
still present after the Mains Delay time

Mains Delay Delay before sending Mains Fail to the central

receiving station

Low Battery CID Code Sent to the central receiving station if the low battery is
still present after the Low Battery Delay time

Low Battery Delay Delay before sending Low Battery to the central
receiving station

Test CID Code Periodic system test

Test Period Delay before sending a Periodic Test to the central

receiving station

Now click on the Setup Dialler button to save this data.

SGD

Click on the SGD tab to define the SGD parameters for fire alarm applications. (NZ only)

SGD Number The number of the SGD devices on the RS485 bus.
Enter as 0 to 16 devices. Default is 0.

SGD Multi -Drop Default is ticked for more than 1 SGD. Tick for a
single Multi Drop SGD.

SGD Normal Event This is the Contact ID code for reporting a normal
SGD event. All other SGD events report as the sum
of the normal event plus the SGD event.

SGD Error This is the number of errors tolerated on the RS485

bus before sending an SGD non reply message to the
central receiving station.

Now click on the Setup Dialler button to save this data.
