The one of the most serious problems nowadays is traffic
congestion. Traffic congestion is happened happens if the amount of vehicles and the providing provision of crucial infrastructure such as roads, is not equal. And It also happens when there is not a solution to the problem which is efficiently enough, such as public transportation. Particularly, the services provided are not balanced with the cost which is paid by consumers, and the risk is too hazardous.
To overcome this problem, Central government works together
with regional government, aiming to cope with this traffic congestion soon. Last month, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in a conference, stated that there are three solutions to mitigate and overcome this problem. Firstly, providing more alternative roads, so the amount of private vehicle users will be balanced, and there will not be traffic congestion anymore. The second one is making a regulation to restrict private vehicles, aiming to decrease traffic congestion and provide more public transportations. And the last one is finally the government will move the capital city from Java to Kalimantan.
Let we us analyze each solutions supposed proposed by the
President. For the first solution, alternative roads will not settle this congestion permanently. In this case, the amount of private vehicle users, increases significantly every year. According to the Transportation Department’s affair through an expert staff, states that the increase of private vehicle is over a thousand vehicles every year. Therefore, the government must be impossible cannot to add, and provide or build the enough new roads every five or ten years in one side,. But on the other hand, private vehicle users always increase and that is the point. Moreover, the increase of vehicles will not be favorable for national fuel stock. If it is happened, and the government cannot handle it, we will suffer a the national fuel crisis. And The situation will be worse if the new problems merge with this problem, such as restricting subsidies for fuel, and as a consequence, many citizenship will be disappointed with the situation.
The second one solution, prevailed involves a policy that restricts
using private vehicles and provides more public transportation. Perhaps it is the one of the proper choices that can be used by the government to solve this problem. But, when we look at the condition of public transportation services, often we are still disappointed and meanwhile, the safety standards in public transportation are also still far from comfortable and safe. There are too many robbers and other criminal actions there. Even more majorities of people choice choose using a taxi as their transportation, because it is safer than the bus although it is more expensive. So, if the regulation is made and it prevailsed, the first task which is carried on out by the government is the government has to mitigate the criminal action before implementing the policy. And for the a further step, we can do the program which has been planned.
The third one solution is movement moving the Capital city to
Kalimantan and this is the best way too. Like Malaysia and other countries in the whole world that have done it. But the crucial thing in this program is still not effective enough so far. Because, in this case, the process needed is too long to feel the impact of this program. Meanwhile, traffic congestion goes becomes worse each times, and we are as citizenship that have to jostle in the bus every morning so we cannot wait a long time anymore. Therefore, likelihood it is likely to be inefficient if we analyze through the time which is needed side. After that, It will may not be a permanent way to overcome this problem, because according to a source stating that it is impossible if for a central city can to be free from traffic congestion.
However, the government needs other action that does not need long time, such as providing safety electricity trains like in Japan, or other developed countries, and objectively, it can be favorable too for the global environment.
