Winding River's Buttony Version

With a #9 needle, CO 72

Row 1: Slip 1, K5, then start 2x2 ribbing until you get to last 6 sts, K6

Rpt. 5x more. = 6 rows for the collar

Row 7: (RS) Slip 1, K5, pm, K9, pm, K23, pm, K9, pm, K25

Row 8: (WS) Slip 1, K5, P to last 6 sts, K6

Row 9: Slip 1, *K to 1 st before marker, M1, K2, M1* to the end of row = 8 inc.
and now 80 sts

Row 10: work as row 8

Now, continue your increases by repeating rows 9 & 10, and begin
buttonholes. Buttonholes are worked every 12 rows and are marked by **.

On your first repeat of row 9, **work as above to last 6 sts, K3, yo, k2tog, K1.
= first buttonhole made

Work row 10 as above.

Row 9... then on this WS row, P until you get to the first set of sleeve stitches
and put them on waste yarn, P until next set of sleeve stitches and put onto
waste yarn. Finish row 10 as above.

Increases are finished at this point. You now have 2 buttonholes. Now you will
be knitting plain stockinette stitch, keeping the garter stitch border by
knitting the first and last 6 stitches no matter which side you are. Continue
working a buttonhole row every 12 rows, and as indicated by the **.

Row 35: Slip 1, K to end**

Row 36: Slip 1, P to last 6 sts, K6

Row 37: Slip 1, K to end

Row 38: Slip 1, P to last 6 sts, K6

Repeat rows 37 & 38 4x more

Repeat row 35 & 36, then 4 repeats of row 37 & 38 to give you 4 buttonholes,
and now you are starting your decreases on the the RS row (just before your
next buttonhole). I counted out where the side seams are, and put a marker
on either side for my decreases. There are 3 decrease rows, beginning on row
57 (RS), as follows:

Decrease row (row 57 RS): Slip 1, K to 1 st before marker, SSK, K2, K2tog, K
to 1 st before marker, SSK, K2, K2tog, K to end

Row 58: Repeat row 38

Row 59: Work as row 35 since this is your 5th buttonhole row

Row 60: Work as row 36

Row 61: Work another decrease row like row 57

Row 62: Work as row 58

Row 63: Work as row 37

Row 64: Work as row 38

Row 65: Work another decrease row like row 57

Row 66: Work as row 58

Decreases finished. Repeat rows 37 & 38 2x more.

Row 71: Work as row 35 as this is your 6th buttonhole row

Row 72: Work as row 36

Rows 73 - 82: work as rows 37 & 38

On next RS row (row 83), you will be doing an increase row, as well as a
buttonhole. Work row 83 like you did row 9, adding in a buttonhole at the end
of the row.

Row 84: Work as 38

Rows 85 - 94: Work as rows 37 & 38

Row 95: Work as row 35 (8 buttonholes now)

Row 96: Work as row 36

Row 97 & 98: Work as rows 37 & 38

Begin bottom ribbing now.

Row 99: Slip 1, K5, 2x2 ribbing until last 6 sts, K6

Rows 100 - 110: repeat row 99, working a buttonhole row on row 107 (9
buttonholes total)

BO using a stretchy bind-off. I used Elizabeth Zimmermans sewn BO.

Sleeves:

Transfer live sts from waste yarn onto #9 needles.

K one round

Pick up 2 sts under arm = 36 sts

K 2x2 ribbing for 12 rounds.

BO loosely.

Repeat for other sleeve.
