The illusion of this worldly life “dunia”

• How do you view or evaluate this worldly life?

Verily the likeness of (this) worldly life is as the water (rain) which We send down from the sky, so by it
arises the intermingled produce of the earth of which men and cattle eat until when the earth is clad with its
adornments and is beautified, and its people think that they have all the powers of disposal over it, Our
Command reaches it by night or by day and We make it like a clean-mown harvest, as if it had not flourished
yesterday! Thus do We explain the Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, laws, etc.) in
detail for the people who reflect. (10:24)

Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and
rivalry in respect of wealth and children, as the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is
pleasing to the disbelievers; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But
in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers, evil-doers), and (there is) Forgiveness from
Allâh and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers, good-doers), whereas the life of this world is only a
deceiving enjoyment. ( 57:20)
• How do we get deceived by this worldly life?

O mankind! Verily, the Promise of Allâh is true. So let not this present life deceive you, and let not the chief
deceiver (Satan) deceive you about Allâh. (35:5)

The life of this world is but play and pastime, but if you believe (in the Oneness of Allâh) and have taqwa (constant
awareness of God) He will grant you your rewards, and will not ask you your wealth. (47:36)
• Do you often compare this life with the life to come? Does that affect
your decisions/choices? How can we balance between both to win
both worlds? Can we always balance?

And whatever you have been given is an enjoyment of the life of (this) world and its adornment, and that
(Hereafter) which is with Allâh is better and will remain forever. Have you then no sense? ( 28:60)

But seek, with that (wealth) which Allâh has bestowed on you, the home of the Hereafter, and forget not your
portion of legal enjoyment in this world, and do good as Allâh has been good to you, and seek not mischief
in the land. Verily, Allâh likes not the Mufsidûn (those who commit crimes and sins, oppressors, tyrants,
mischief-makers, corruptors, etc…). ( 28:77)

• Evaluate yourself, how keen are you to meet your lord? Do you feel
yourself ready? If not why so?

Verily, those who hope not for their meeting with Us, but are pleased and satisfied with the life of the present
world, and those who are heedless of Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.),
Those, their abode will be the Fire, because of what they used to earn.
* In this verse, Allah describes those who want only this life and don’t believe in the
hereafter as people who lack knowledge! What kind of knowledge? Can we acquire it?

Therefore withdraw (O Muhammad SAW) from him who turns away from Our Reminder (this Qur'ân) and desires nothing
but the life of this world. That is what they could reach of knowledge. Verily, your Lord it is He Who knows best him who
goes astray from His Path, and He knows best him who receives guidance. (53: 29-30)
