SHREE MANGALCHANDIKA PRAPATTI

Women shall offer the Shree Mangal Chandika Prapatti on the day of Sankranti i.e.
14th or 15th January (this year Sankranti is on 15th January, Saturday). Offering the
Prapatti on this day makes out of every woman, the protective soldier of her family
on one hand and the bodyguard of each of her family members on the other.
Irrespective of her being a mother, a sister or a wife, she definitely becomes the
protector of the family.

• The Prapatti is to be done on this day of Sankranti because on this day Mata
Mahishasurmardini first set HER Feet on earth, in the Kataraaj ashram of
Rishi Kardam and Devahuti, to destroy the demon Mahishasur.

• Women shall offer the Prapatti on the day of Sankranti after sunset in any
open place, outdoors, for example, on the beach, banks of a river, in the
verandah, in the balcony, or even in the open space between two chawls.

• Any woman above the age of 16 can offer the Prapatti.

• Women can most definitely offer the Prapatti even during menstrual
cycle. All they need to do is to place udi on the tongue and on the navel
before beginning the Prapatti.

• The Prapatti has to be offered only after a bath.

• The Prapatti needs to be offered as a group. The more the women doing it

to Trivikrama saying – “ My Dear Paramatma, with the help of your Mother
Chandika, please avert and destroy evil thoughts , intentions or any evil power
that may come in my family’s way and please Bless”.

• Offer this Abhichaarnashak Purchundi in the sacred fire by lighting camphor

(karpur) and little twigs in a large tray or a pit.

Chamundayaee Vichche- nine times and offer akshata at the feet of Chandika
and fragrant flowers to Trivikrama.

• Quench the fire with Neem leaves.

• Apply kumkum of the Chandika’s Feet to your forehead there itself. DO NOT

for the Poojan can apply.

• Use the bananas to make a common Prasad to be eaten on the spot.

• The Curds are to be taken home for the men in the family.

• THE WOMEN ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO EAT THE CURD.

• If men are not available at home, offer the curd at the root of any tree.

• The sugarcane is to be taken home and eaten by all the women at home.
(Not necessarily on the same day)

• Use the rest of the Poojan material (except the fragrant flowers, bananas,
curds and sugarcane) to make sambar, using whatever spices and masala
deemed fit, to be eaten with rice or chapatti by all at home. Make sure to use
Curry leaves for enhancing the taste as well as for keeping in mind their
health benefits.

• DO NOT PREPARE ANY OTHER VEGETABLE (BHAJI) ON THAT DAY.
