“Silangan Mindanao Mining Co., Inc. adhere to the principles of a socially

and environmentally responsible mining company, towards excellence in mineral
resource development, to pursue efficient and sustainable improvement of its
operations, in order to prevent/minimize adverse environmental impacts, and
become compliant with all the requirements, rules and regulations related to
mining, as well as promote environmental awareness and commitment among its
employees.”

Environmental Objectives

The Silangan Mindanao Mining Co., Inc. aimed to develop and enhance a
systematic implementation of its environmental management system for the
project area, Tubod & Placer, Surigao Del Norte. The program includes the
assessment and documentation of onsite and offsite potential impact areas in
order to formulate and develop a comprehensive program and appropriate
management scheme for the project and to prevent negative impacts to the
environment and to the people.
Specifically:
1. prevent adverse environmental impacts arising from the exploration operation
and other activities within the project premises.
2. implement effective and efficient housekeeping activities in all the drilling
sites, and rehabilitation program.
3. conduct regular monitoring and management of surface and underground water
quality for the project.
4. implement environment friendly development program in the project premises
and in the host communities.
5. involve the communities & LGU’s by supporting the Community Technical
Working Group (CTWG) in the monitoring and evaluation of environmental
management program of the company.

b. When you have projects in your department, who plans and decides?
Projects in my department were initially conceptualized and planned by the
Manager, and after these have been formulated, the concept was discussed with
the Team Leaders for inputs in the improvement of the plan and incorporation
of other ideas from the team.

c. What are the elements you need before starting your operations in your
department?
Prior to the start of operation, a plan of action defining the objectives, expected
output, timeframe, manpower, and logistics should be included.

d. When you’re carrying out your plans, how do you consider the environmental
factors around you?
In carrying out plans for the program, you need to consider other factors
around you, because these factors might affect the success of your project
implementation.
