Introduction:
According to “Phaladeepika (3:4)”, the first Navamsa of some nakshatras from Aries (Rasis) onwards respectively will start from Aries,
Capricorn, Libra and Cancer.

That means:

· The first Navamsa of Aries starts from Aries,

· The first Navamsa of Taurus will start from Capricorn,

· The first Navamsa of Gemini will start from Libra and so on...

Now since there are 9 Navamsas and 12 rasis. And there are total of 9 X 12 = 108 Navamsas

To calculate the Navamsa:

For Movable signs, the counting starts from the sign itself. Say for Capricorn the counting of Navamsa will start from Capricorn, Aquarius,
Pisces and so on.

For Dual signs, the counting starts from the fifth from the sign itself. Say for Gemini the counting starts from Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius and
so on.

For Fixed signs, the counting starts from the ninth from the sign itself. Say for Taurus the counting starts from Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces
and so on.

Calculating Navamsa:
Here is the mathematical example:

Each Rasi is of 30 Degrees (I’ll use 'D' in the future for Degrees) And Navamsa is 1/9th part of a Rasi.

So if I divide the Rasi into 9 parts, it equals:

30 D / 9 = 3 D 20 M

Thus, each Navamsa is of 3 D 20 M

Now suppose we have Pisces, Aries, Taurus and Gemini

Considering finding a Navamsa of a moveable sign,

From this we will take say Aries (if you only consider the Aries box in the upper table),

Now divide that box into 9 equal parts and so we get

Here each pada (part) is equal to 3 D 20 M.

As we know the counting starts with Aries and thus we assign the rasis as follows to the planets falling in each part.

From this we will take say Taurus (if you only consider the Taurus box in the upper table),

Now divide that box into 9 equal parts and so we get

As we know the counting starts with Libra (the 9th from a fixed sign) and thus we assign the rasis as follows to the planets falling in each
part.
