Background: Oral and dental health can affect overall body health. To support optimal
health, efforts to maintain oral health should be done early. One of the supporting factors
that cause dental caries is debris or food residue around the teeth. Mastication of fibrous
foods like fruits could clean the teeth. Pear fruit is rich of nutritive materials, and have
anti-cancer and antibacterial properties. Pears also contain catechin compounds that can
inhibit the attachment of Streptococcus Mutans on the tooth formation and also to
denature the bacterial cell proteins so that the bacteria die. Objective: To find out the
difference test of debris index before and after consumption of pear in children aged 7-9
years at SD Inpres Tidung, Makassar in 2019. Research method: This research is a pre-
experimental, research design used pretest-posttest one groups only and sampling method
through purposive sampling. The population was students of SD Inpres Tidung, Makassar
in the age of 7-9 years. Results: The results of the research by using Wilcoxon test
showed an average debris index before masticating pear is 1,474 (SD = ± 0.447) and after
masticating pear is 0.340 (SD = ± 0.298). The result of Wilcoxon test obtained a value of
0,000 (p <0.05) which shows that there is difference before and after masticating pear.
Conclusion: There is a difference test of debris index before and after consumption of
pear in children aged 7-9 years at SD Inpres Tidung, Makassar in 2019
