GSM, HSCSD, GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA, HSDPA, CDMA2000, TETRA, TETRAPOL, DVB-H, UMA, HSUPA,
TD-SCDMA, and WiMAX. Supported measurement file formats include Nemo, Ericsson TEMS™, EADS
REMS TETRAPOL®, and character-separated value (CSV).

2 New Features
This chapter lists new features and problem fixes in Nemo Analyze 5.13. Examples and instructions for the
most important new features are included.

2.1 Support for Nemo File format version 2.01

Nemo Analyze 5.13 supports Nemo log file format up to version 2.01. New parameters in v2.01:
• C/I per hopping channel
• C/I per hopping channel worst
• RSSI per hopping channel
• Audio quality parameters: speech activity, SNR, delay, insertion gain, noise gain
• WAP parameters: WAP content URL, WAP content Type, WAP content size
• Number of erroneous RLC blocks
• Number of received RLC blocks
• Spectrum scanning parameters: total Rx level, resolution bandwidth, spectrum scan
• DVB-H throughput

2.2 CSV (Character Separated Value) ASCII import to database

(optional)
Nemo Analyze 5.13 introduces a new optional feature for importing ASCII data into the database in CSV
rd
(Character Separated Value) format. This feature enables the post-processing of any 3 party column format
ASCII data with Nemo Analyze. All Nemo Analyze data views can be used in visualizing the data. Advanced
KPIs can be also calculated from the data with the KPI workbench or with plain SQL.

For example, Wireshark (Ethereal) log files, recorded by Nemo Outdoor simultaneously with the standard
Nemo log file, can be exported as CSV files from the Wireshark SW. In Nemo Analyze, these files can be
processed and correlated with the corresponding drive test data. The export of ASCII data dumps in column
format using switch statistics is supported by most network vendors' equipment. These files can be analysed
together with the corresponding drive test data in Nemo Analyze. The export of ASCII data in column format
is supported by most vendors of drive test and protocol analysis tools.

When importing data, various settings need to be made, such as defining the columns to be imported and
the columns that define time, latitude, longitude, and other special columns necessary for data visualization.
These settings can be saved as a template which allows all files of the defined kind to be automatically
loaded into the database. When a CSV template is created, a corresponding table structure is automatically
created into the database for the purpose of storing all files of the defined kind. New CSV templates are
created from the menu: FileToolsDatabase managerCSV TemplatesRight-clickAdd templateF
(See picture below).

Picture 1. Adding new CSV template

After the template has been created, files of the defined type can be loaded into the database in the same
way as standard Nemo log files (See picture below)

Picture 2. Importing CSV files into the database

Loaded CSV files are displayed on the “CSV files” page of the workspace. When a file is selected in the
workspace, the columns of the file are displayed as parameters in the Parameter Tree below. The
parameters can be visualized in the same way as with Nemo log files. See the picture below.

2.3 Extended line drawing to base station on map

Nemo Analyze 5.13 introduces new options for drawing the database connection indicator lines on map, i.e.
from the location marker on the route to base station(s). Earlier it has been possible to draw lines to the
mobile’s serving and neighbouring cells. The new options include UMTS base stations contributing on pilot
pollution, UMTS missing neighbours, UMTS neighbour list cells, GSM neighbour list cells, UMTS scanner
measured pilots, CDMA scanner measured pilots, and EVDO scanner measured pilots.

Line drawing definitions can be done from the Route properties. See picture below.

Picture 4. Configuring line drawing to BTS icon on map

2.4 Base station colouring based on custom parameters on map

With the previous Nemo Analyze versions, it has been possible to colour code the base station icons based
on any data in the BTS reference file, such as cell name, site name, cell ID. Nemo Analyze 5.13 allows base
stations to be colour coded based on any parameter that contains the necessary BTS identity information.

For example, a custom KPI that returns number of dropped calls per cell can be visualized on the map by
colour coding the BTS icons based on the number of dropped calls, highlighting the problem cells on the
map. Similarly, any query that aggregates data per cell can be visualized on the map.

Following two pictures show an example where base station icons have been colour coded based on
whether they were measured during a drive test or not. This kind of view can be used to spot missing
neighbours and sleeping cells, that is, cells that are not measured even though the route crosses the
expected service area of cell.

Once a BTS file has been opened on map, its colour coding can be configured from the layer properties of
the BTS reference file: Right-click on the BTS layer in Layers section of the side panel. Select Properties
Color tab -> Select mode as “custom” from the drop-down menu Select the custom query to be visualized
Select query columns containing BTS information that corresponds with the contents of the BTS file.
Joining can be done using only one column that uniquely identifies the cell, such as cell name or cell ID. If
these parameters are not available in the query results, other identifiers such as channel number and
scrambling code can be used as well. If the joining parameter is not unique, all the matching BTS icons will
be colour coded.

2.5 Workbook report templates
Nemo Analyze 5.13 introduces new workbook report templates for GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSPA,
CDMA, and EVDO. One of the major benefits of the new report templates compared to the existing Crystal
Reports templates is the ability to customize the templates. It is extremely easy to add and remove KPIs, and
modify the layout of the report template. It is also possible to include map plots in the template, unlike in the
Crystal Reports templates.

Workbook templates can be exported to PDF from the menu: FileExportWorkbook to PDF. Each page of
the workbook will be exported as a separate page in the resulting PDF file. To get the best possible export
result, it is usually necessary to change the orientation from portrait to landscape, and add page margins
from the PDF printer settings. Analyze PDF printer settings can be changed using Windows printer settings.

Report templates can be found by right-clicking on a folder or a measurement file, and selecting GSM,
UMTS, CDMA, or EVDO from the popup menu. See picture below.

Picture 7. Running Workbook report templates

Each template contains multiple pages with PS and CS statistics, system distribution, log file listing, all failure
events, and statistics and map plots of RF parameters. Some examples of the reports are shown in the
pictures below.

2.6 Fleet manager improvements

Fleet manager is an optional module of Nemo Analyze, used in the Nemo Autonomous measurement
system for remote control of the system’s field measurement probes.

Nemo Analyze 5.13 enables the field measurement units (FMU) to be forced to start and stop measurement
sessions via SMS. This makes it possible to interrupt ongoing measurement tasks remotely, without having
to wait for the end of the task.

Another improvement is the possibility for the user to define custom log file name prefixes for each individual
FMU. This makes it easier to categorize and separate log files from different FMUs during post-processing.

2.7 KPI workbench improvements
The state machine in the KPI workbench has been improved in Nemo Analyze 5.13. It is now possible to
trigger state transition using multiple AND/OR conditions. For example, this could be used to create a custom
st
root cause analysis KPI for dropped calls: State transition from “OK” to “Pilot pollution” WHEN 1 AS RSCP
st
>= -95 AND 1 AS Ec/N0 <= -10. See picture below.

Picture 11. State machine transition with AND/OR conditions

Another improvement is in the KPI workbench filter node. It is now possible to create filters with multiple
AND/OR statements with parenthesis. See picture below for example.

2.8 New CDMA/EVDO KPIs
Following new CDMA and EVDO KPIs have been added in Nemo Analyze 5.13:
• EVDO AT/AN connection attempt success and failure events
• EVDO AT/AN connection release event
• EVDO soft/softer handover status
• CDMA soft/softer handover status (requires BTS reference file)

These KPIs are available in the Parameter Tree. The KPIs are also included in the new CDMA/EVDO report
workbooks. Pictures below show examples of the KPIs.

2.9 New troubleshooting KPIs

Nemo Analyze 5.13 contains following new troubleshooting KPIs for GSM and UMTS:
• MOS DL analysis GSM and UMTS
• MOS DL analysis GSM and UMTS limited parameter set
• MOS DL analysis GSM
• UMTS to GSM missing neighbour analysis
• Problem events

All MOS DL analysis KPIs follow the same principle. They return a table with row per DL MOS score. For
each MOS score, average values of the key RF parameters over the MOS sample time period are returned.
Also the number of handovers during the MOS sample, if any, and the handover duration are returned.
These KPIs can be used to find the reason for low MOS, and to plot correlation between MOS and different
radio parameter in scatter plot. KPIs can be also used as input in KPI workbench for further analysis. These
KPIs do not scale over datasets of several tens of hours. The KPI “MOS DL analysis GSM and UMTS limited
parameter set” contains only few of the most important RF KPIs, and it scales better to big data sets.

Picture 17. MOS DL analysis GSM and UMTS

UMTS to GSM missing neighbour analysis produces a list of all unique pairs of serving UMTS cell – missing
GSM neighbour cell found from the measurement data. For each missing neighbour case, serving cell
Ec/N0, missing cell Rx level, elapsed time (the length in time the missing neighbour occurrence has been
evident in the measurement data), and the distance from the route to the missing cell antenna are returned.
With Nemo Analyze Professional it is also possible to drill down from each case to see the situation on the
map.

Picture 18. UMTS to GSM missing neighbour analysis

Problem events KPI lists all problem events (dropped calls, failed handovers, location area update failures,
etc.) found from the measurement data. The KPI can be visualized as a grid, or on a map as a colour-coded
route and/or print value.

2.10 New search folder options

Search folder can be set to filter the most recently measured or uploaded files. For example, it is possible to
create a folder containing all files measured during last day counting from the time of folder creation or
refresh. Existing folders can be refreshed any time to update after loading new files. This kind of folder is
useful when automating file uploading and report execution with Event scheduler. For example, Nemo
Analyze could be configured to upload new files into the database every night from a network folder, gather
them to a folder containing the latest uploaded files, and finally to run a report over the folder.

Another example could be a folder that contains 10 files uploaded into the database most recently. Such
folder can be used to quickly find the files loaded at the beginning of the post-processing session from a
database of hundreds of files.

2.11 Improvements in TEMS support
Following new parameters are parsed from the TEMS log files in Nemo Analyze 5.13:
• Handover and cell reselection events in inter-system change
• RACH AICH status parameter
• RRC connection setup time
• Spreading factor downlink
• RLC throughput DL/UL
• BLER DL and UL RLC retransmission rate
• FER actual

2.12 Improved search functionality in the grid

In the grid search it is now possible to use Google-style Boolean operators to combine multiple different
search conditions.

Picture 21. Grid with Boolean search operators

2.13 Other improvements

• Workbook execution can be interrupted with new “Cancel all” button.

• Possibility to delete all files in a folder from database. It is now possible to remove a randomly selected
set of log files from the database with a single mouse click.
• Parameter filter improved to apply for some of the columns missing earlier, such as “Call setup
time”, PDP activation time”, Call disconnect status, etc.
• Improved drill-down clicking accuracy on the map. Double-clicking on the map on a problem event to
perform a drill-down.
• Automatic update of “Report folder” section of the workspace based on the hard drive directory.
When e.g. a new Excel report template is created, it will show up automatically in the workspace without
having to load it or restart Analyze.
• Scheduled report export to excel in Event scheduler. It is possible to automatically run a Crystal
reports template, and export is as Excel file into a network folder with the Event scheduler.
• Option to hide current position on route in the map data view. When printing map plots into a report,
the route location cursor can be hidden for better visual appearance of the report
• Possibility to disable route drawing optimization. Helps with the problem where a part of the route
goes missing with some zoom levels
