EMC® RecoverPoint

Quick Start Guide

This document outlines the procedure for installing an EMC


RecoverPoint Appliance (RPA) in a RecoverPoint or RecoverPoint/SE
installation. Any installation requires at least two RPAs at the local site.
This pair by itself can support a Continuous data protection (CDP)
configuration. A Continuous remote replication (CRR) or Concurrent
local and remote (CLR) data protection configuration, or CDP at two
sites, requires at least two additional RPAs, at the remote site.

3.3 and later

The main package should contain:
◆ One EMC® RecoverPoint Appliance
◆ One standard RPA rackmount kit
◆ Bezel
A smaller package should contain:
◆ Two country-specific power cables

Note: Review the RecoverPoint documentation pages for additional

Step 3: Mount and connect the RPA


To mount and connect the appliance:
1. Mount the RPA into a standard 19-inch rack, per instructions in
the SVR-D1U-R610 Installation and Replacement Guide.
2. Connect the power cables to an AC power source.

Step 4: Install RecoverPoint or RecoverPoint/SE

3. Connect Fibre Channel cables from the RPA HBAs to the specified
ports on the Fibre Channel switches, per instructions in the
RecoverPoint Zoning and LUN Masking Technical Notes.
4. Connect Ethernet cables from the RPA to the management and
WAN networks.
5. Connect your laptop/installation computer to the RPA using a
serial cable.

Step 4: Install RecoverPoint or RecoverPoint/SE

Prerequisites If you wish to install RecoverPoint or RecoverPoint/SE on your RPA,


first ensure that all prerequisites to installation, as presented in the
RecoverPoint Deployment Manager Product Guide, have been fulfilled,
including (but not limited to):
◆ System requirements, including provision of storage volumes
required for RecoverPoint replication
◆ Networking requirements
◆ For RecoverPoint/SE, installation and enabling of compatible
CLARiiON-related software.
◆ Verification that the RecoverPoint software that is pre-installed on
your RPA is the RecoverPoint product release that you want. If
you need a different RecoverPoint release, it must be downloaded
and installed for you by your service provider, unless you are
specifically instructed otherwise.

Download Download the Deployment Manager onto your laptop or installation


Deployment computer. Deployment Manager is a RecoverPoint support product
Manager software that provides GUI-based wizards for RecoverPoint installation
operations, including:
◆ Installing RecoverPoint or RecoverPoint/SE
◆ Adding RPAs
◆ Replacing RPAs

Note: Currently, only RecoverPoint/SE installations are available for


customers.

Step 5: Define and activate RecoverPoint license

It can be downloaded from Powerlink, at:


Support > Software Downloads and Licensing > Downloads P-R >
RecoverPoint and RecoverPoint/SE

Installation To install RecoverPoint or RecoverPoint/SE:


1. To launch the Deployment Manager:
a. Unzip the Deployment Manager file that you downloaded.
b. Run install.exe.
2. Select “EMC Personnel”, log in as user admin, and select the
appropriate wizard: RecoverPoint Installer Wizard or
RecoverPoint/SE Installer Wizard.
Either wizard enables you to perform a one-site or two-site
installation.
3. Carefully follow all instructions until you complete the wizard.

Note: When installing RecoverPoint/SE and performing manual zoning,


create a zone on each switch to allow communication between all RPAs,
SP-A, and SP-B.

Step 5: Define and activate RecoverPoint license


At any time prior to first accessing the RecoverPoint Management
Application, send an email to licensekeys@emc.com requesting a
license key and providing your EMC sales order number.
You will receive an email with a 7-day temporary license key, your
Account ID, Software Serial IDs, and directions on how to redeem the
temporary license for a permanent license key.
Upon first accessing the RecoverPoint Management Application, the
Getting Started Wizard opens. From the Welcome Screen, click Next
to display the Account Settings screen, and then define your
RecoverPoint license key, as follows:
1. Enter the Account ID, Software Serial IDs, company name, and
contact info (e-mail address) into the appropriate fields.

2. Click Update.
The Updating license key dialog box is displayed.
a. From the same email, copy the license key to the License Key
field
b. Click OK to exit the dialog box.
3. Click Apply.
RecoverPoint will now be enabled for an initial period of at least
seven days. After the initial period, you must have an activated license
to use the RPA for RecoverPoint replication. Instructions on how to
obtain and activate your permanent RecoverPoint license, and all
other RecoverPoint licensing procedures, are presented in the
RecoverPoint Administrator’s Guide.
