Galileo was born on February 15, 1564 in Pisa

A young galileo was a famous art critic and highly talented musician

he started to study for the priesthood, but left and enrolled for a medical degree at the
University of Pisa. He never completed this degree, but instead studied mathematics

In 1592 he was appointed, at a much higher salary, to the position of mathematician at the
University of Padua

1610 accepted a position as Mathematician and Philosopher to the Grand Duke of

Tuscany

Generally believed philosophies of Aristotle

Galileo built upon the government philosophies of Aristotle in which the government is
considered like a living organism, rather than that of a machine. It must be able to change
and adapt according to its conditions, and one that has many different parts that cannot
exist without the others.

Galileo determined the core and universal laws of physics. He determined that objects of
different wieght fell at the same rate, which was not accepted by the scientific community
at first. Later, he determined that the Earth rotated on its own axis, and revolved around
the sun, which caused him to be persecuted by the church. He was forced to denouce his
beliefs and findings, and live under house arrest f

In 1633, Galileo was put on trial for accusations of heresy. He was forced to renounce his
beliefs, and remained under house arresst untiln 1642, when he died.

Galileo defended heliocentrism which is “the astronomical model in which the Earth and
planets revolve around a stationary Sun at the center of the solar system”

Galileo had many scientific inventions, including the telescope, microscope,

mathematical compass, and an escapement mechanism for a pendulum clock/

He also had contributions to the area of physics, and set down the base laws that llater
scientists Isaac newton and Albert Einstien built upon.
Passages from Catholic bible brought against Galileo:
Psalm 93
1
The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength,
wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

Psalm 96:10 (King James Version)

10
Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that
it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.

1 Chronicles 16:30 (King James Version)

30
Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved.

Psalm 104:5 (New International Version, ©2010)

5
He set the earth on its foundations;
it can never be moved.

Ecclesiastes 1:5 (New International Version, ©2010)

5
The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.

QUOTES:

“I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense,
reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.”

“In questions of science, the authority of a thousand is not worth the humble reasoning of
a single individual.”

“The Bible shows the way to go to heaven, not the way the heavens go”

“It vexes me when they would constrain science by the authority of the Scriptures, and
yet do not consider themselves bound to answer reason and experiment.”
