Dear Parishioner,
We speak often about the impor-
tance of taking up our cross and
following the Lord. But we don’t
always recognize a cross as such.
Consider a cross that we might
not be aware of: the cross of
temptation. Rather than the
conventional variety of tempta-
tion, I refer to those temptations
that we may experience over and
over again regarding the same
sin.
For example, let’s talk about ad-
diction. Realizing that we can be addicted to anything, we may
discover a particular weakness in our lives. We may be an-
noyed that there is one temptation that no matter how much
effort we put into it, we always succumb to that temptation.
We wonder why God doesn’t just step right in and take it away
so that we don’t have to struggle.
But he won’t because it is our cross and, just as he would not
come down off the cross during his bitter passion, so he won’t
take our cross from us. It is our road to holiness and he will not
deprive us of it. He loves us too much for that. So, my friends,
let us look at the temptations against which we constantly
struggle as our crosses, which will be our way to heaven.

MASS WITH ANOINTING OF THE SICK
A Mass with Anointing of the Sick
will be offered at St. Francis de
Sales Church in Echo on Fri-
day, February 11. The Sacra-
ment of Reconciliation will be
available at 10:00 am; recitation of
the Rosary at 10:30 am; and Mass,
celebrated by Father Scott
Chemino, at 11:00 am. Pope Bene-
dict XVI has urged that sacramen-
tal care of the sick be extended to dioceses and par-
ishes on this day in keeping with the healing prayers
so often associated with devotion at Lourdes, France.

ST. MARY’S SCHOOL IN NATCHITOCHES
DRAW DOWN FUNDRAISER
St. Mary’s School in Natchitoches will
hold its 5th Annual Draw Down Fund-
raiser on Thursday, February 10
from 5:00-9:00 pm in the school’s
gym. A Draw Down is a type of re-
verse raffle in which the last ticket
drawn - not the first - is the winner. Only 400 tickets
will be sold. Cash and prizes will be awarded through-
out the event, with a grand prize of $5000 awarded to
the last ticket remaining. The event will feature a buf-
fet-style meal and cash bar.
Tickets are $100 each, which admits two. In addition, a
4-wheeler will be raffled for $25 per ticket. For more

DAY OF RENEWAL IN COLFAX
The Diocesan Service Committee of
the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in
the Diocese of Alexandria is hosting a
Day of Renewal on Saturday, Febru-
ary 19 at St. Joseph Catholic
Church Hall in Colfax. The theme
is “Now is the Acceptable Time! Now is the Day of Sal-
vation!” The guest speaker will be Johnny Bertucci of
the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of New Orleans.
Registration at 8:30 am will be followed by Praise and
Worship, talks, testimonies, lunch, and fellowship.
Registration is $12, which includes lunch. Call Diane

the vestibule. Deadline is February 12.
