The Academy Of Accounting Professionals ™

(TAAP)

Year 2010-2011

1
STUDYING ACCOUNTING, TAXATION & FINANCE

The purpose of accounting is to provide financial and non-financial information

to facilitate decision-making relating to the management of, and investment in,
public or private sector entities, and to provide some accountability to
shareholders, stakeholders, and taxpayers. The major role of an accountant is
to measure, interpret and communicate information relevant to these
decisions. Employment prospects for graduates in accounting are wide-
ranging.

Financial accountants provide information to external parties for assessing the

expected return and risk from investing in or providing resources to the entity,
and/or monitoring the performance of management of the entity. Internal
auditors review compliance with policy decisions, while external auditors
provide an independent opinion on the credibility of financial statements that
summaries the results and the financial position of an organization.
Management accountants concentrate on the provision of information to
management for planning, control and decision-making. Accountants
specializing in taxation assist a wide range of taxpayers to comply with tax
laws and provide advice on how to limit tax liabilities to the legal minimum.
