1. BEFORE USE
The NIDEK AUTO LENSMETER LM-1000P measures the optical performance of spectacle lenses
such as single vision, bifocal (trifocal), and progressive power lenses or contact lenses. This device
has a measuring unit and a display unit in front, and a printer unit on the right side. The measuring unit
is comprised of a nosepiece, a lens table, a lens holder, and a lens marker. Below the nosepiece,
there is a read button for reading measured data.
The display unit employs a full-graphic LCD, displaying measured data, alignment condition of a lens,
and settings of the device.
Changing the device level 30° along with the function buttons around the display allows for easier
measurement in a sitting or standing position.
Since there is no difference in the operating procedure of the lens marker between the ink pad type
and ink cartridge type, this manual concentrates on the ink cartridge type.
The device also offers the following features as well as the above features:
• Performs area measurement, which measures the refractive power at multiple positions of
a lens simultaneously.
Makes measurement easier and more correct by detecting changes in the refractive power of a
progressive power lens.
This device is designed to measure vertex powers and prismatic effects of spectacle and contact
lenses, to orientate and mark uncut lenses, and to verify the correct mounting of lenses in spectacle
frames.

6. EMC (ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY)
The Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive sets the essential requirements for electrical and
electronic equipment that may disturb or even be disturbed by other equipment. The LM-1000P
complies with these requirements as tabled below. Follow the guidance on the tables for use of the
device in the electromagnetic environment.
The LM-1000P is intended for use in the electromagnetic environment specified below. The customer or the user of the
LM-1000P should assure that it is used in such an environment.
RF emissions Group 1 The LM-1000P uses RF energy only for its internal function.
CISPR 11 Therefore, its RF emissions are very low and are not likely to cause
any interference in nearby electronic equipment.
RF emissions Class B The LM-1000P is suitable for use in all establishments other than
CISPR 11 domestic and those directly connected to the public low-voltage
Harmonic emissions Class A power supply network that supplies buildings used for domestic
IEC 61000-3-2 purposes.

EMC (ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY)
The LM-1000P is intended for use in the electromagnetic environment specified below. The customer or the user of the
LM-1000P should assure that it is used in such an environment.
Immunity test IEC 60601 test level Comliance level Electromagnetic environment - guidance
NOTE 1 At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the higher frequency range applies.
NOTE 2 These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by absorption and
reflection from structures, objects and people.
a Field strengths from fixed transmitters, such as base stations for radio (cellular/cordless) telephones and land mobile
radios, amateur radio, AM and FM radio broadcast and TV broadcast cannot be predicted theoretically with accuracy. To
assess the electromagnetic environment due to fixed RF transmitters, an electromagnetic site survey should be
considered. If the measured field strength in the location in which the LM-1000P is used exceeds the applicable RF
compliance level above, the LM-1000P should be observed to verify normal operation. If abnormal performance is
observed, additional measures may be necessary, such as reorienting or relocating the LM-1000P.
b Over the frequency range 150 kHz to 80 MHz, field strengths should be less than 3 V/m.

EMC (ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY)
Recommended separation distances between portable and mobile RF communications equipment and the
LM-1000P
The LM-1000P is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which radiated RF disturbances are controlled.
The customer or the user of the LM-1000P can help prevent electromagnetic interference by maintaining a minimum
distance between portable and mobile RF communications equipment (transmitters) and the LM-1000P as
recommended below, according to the maximum output power of the communications equipment.
100 12 12 23
For transmitters rated at a maximum output power not listed above, the recommended separation distance
d in metres (m) can be estimated using the equation applicable to the frequency of the transmitter, where P
is the maximum output power rating of the transmitter in watts (W) according to the transmitter
manufacturer.
NOTE 1 At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the separation distance for the higher frequency range applies.
NOTE 2 These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by
absorption and reflection from structures, objects and people.
