1. ACQUISION

It deals with books and related learning materials purchase.

1. Search the catalogue for existing documents ( check edition, title etc) and
get confirmed respective title to be procured or not.
2. Maintain a vendor ( suppliers) list ( unique key can be assigned)
3. Send the list of books to vendor asking their price- called “quotation”.
4. any point of time, librarian should be able to know the status of the quotation
received or not.
5. once you receive quotation from different vendors, librarian should be able to
perform compare price list and should show the result which vendor has lowest price
and highest discount.
6. After getting above said results, next step is to place an order.
7. the same result should be visible to library users regarding status of the book – like
Awaiting approval, ordered, in technical processing ( that is with cataloguing section),
withdrawn ( lost), etc.
8. should be able to know, what is the status of ordered book list, whether library
received it or not/ vendor’s supplied or not.

Catalogue is also called metadata.

Most of the libraries in academic world uses AACRII cataloguing rules ( you no need
to bother about all the rules)
