SIEMENS in Pakistan:

Siemens was first known in this sub-continent in 1870, with the construction of the Indo-
European Telegraph Line, almost 11,000 Km long, from London to Calcutta by Siemens,
United Kingdom. The first Siemens office was established in 1922, in Lahore. Siemens
Pakistan Engineering Co. Ltd. was founded in 1953, as a Private Limited company. In
1978 it enlisted itself with Karachi and Lahore stock Exchanges. The company manages
its business and manufacturing activities through its head office in Karachi and two
regional branches in Lahore and Islamabad. It has also branch offices in Faisalabad,
Peshawar and Quetta. It is one of the largest international companies in Pakistan.
Siemens Pakistan Engineering Company Ltd., Is a subsidiary of Siemens Germany. 64%
shares of Siemens Pakistan are held by Siemens Germany, 26% by the Government of
Pakistan and the remaining 10% are held by the private Pakistani Individuals.

Siemens plays a major role in Pakistan's power generation industry. To date, the company
has added over 2,500 MW to Pakistan's power generation capacity (around 15 percent of
the country's installed output). Until recently, most of Siemens' projects were for public
sector utility companies. However, since private companies are being encouraged to enter
this field, Siemens is making a major contribution to Pakistan's economic development.
Local partners have a 36 percent capital stake in the company. Siemens currently owns
five factories in the country.

FINDINGS & RECOMMENDATIONS

 It has one of the huge Human Resource Environment, which leads towards its
strength.

 Being a multi-national organization it is well equipped with the financial


resources.

 It has the strong manufacturing capacity, with adequate supply of raw material
due to sound goodwill among its suppliers.

 Being a well established company in the market, it has gained the trust of its
customers, so having the greater chances of acceptability of its new products.

. MAJOR PROBLEM OBSERVED

 It is suffering from the economic problem of Brain Drain (due to certain


reasons), which decreases the human capital.

 Fewer budgets for advertisement.

 High Prices of the products.

 Due to high prices, and fewer budget for advertisements , it is now facing the
competition against other multi-nationals but even against the local
organizations.

OBSERVATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS


 “Computer assisted training” methods should be followed for better and effective
teaching.

 There must be an adequate system which checks the causes of Brain drain and
also suggest the reforming measures to control it.

 There should be effective advertisement as a promotional measure of its products.
