I realized there was a religious TV
station on my Basic Cable channel 6...
the first time I tuned in I didn’t know
what to expect. A guy was starting to
give a sermon, and I decided to watch
and see what (I supposed) this Sunday-
keeping pastor might have to say!
Imagine my surprise as I was totally
fascinated, on the edge of my seat,
listening to a wonderful sermon, and
the guy never said one wrong thing that
I could see! ‘I need to get his name,’ I
thought, and soon noted it was Pastor
Doug Batchelor. (Of course, now he’s one
of my very favorite Pastors to hear!) No
church affiliation was mentioned and
it took me several days of watching to
realize this whole TV station was all and
always Seventh-day Adventist!
Since I had stopped going to my Bible
Study group, I relied on watching Better
Life Broadcasting Network since March,
and have learned so much! The sermons
are the best, but the other programs are
all very informative as well, and help so
much in learning to better understand
the Bible. Watching various church
Sabbath services from this area has
helped me understand Sabbath keeping
as well. After watching I was finally
convinced that I do, in fact, need to
keep the Sabbath with other believers,
and I began attending the Klamath falls
Seventh-day Adventist church in May
of 2010. Thank you so much for your
programming.”

A Life of Service
On December 12th 2010, Anita Heisler
was laid to rest after a long battle with
leukemia. She and her husband Bob (our
board President) have provided years of
leadership and support for this ministry.
Recently, we sat down with Pastor Bob to
ask him about those early days. This is
just a portion of that interview.
Q: How did you get involved with
Better Life Broadcasting?
A: Well, one day the senior Pastor of
the Grants Pass church came to me and
said, “There’s an engineer in our church
who wants to start a television ministry
and I’d like to assign you to work with
him.” So I made an appointment with
Delmer Wagner and we went up to a
little restaurant by the freeway. Delmer
told me that there were UHF channels
available and he thought we could get
one and broadcast our church services
to the whole community and wondered
if I’d be interested in working with him.

Well, I’d been a ham radio operator for
years out in the mission field so I knew a
little bit about radio, but nothing about
television. I had always wanted to get
into amateur video in television, but
had never had the opportunity or the
finances to do it. I thought, this might be
a great opportunity. And so I was very
supportive to Delmer.
Q: What did you think about the
potential of the idea?
A: I was receptive to it. Not everyone
was, but I could see some possibilities.
Actually, my first impression came
while sitting in the Grants Pass Church.
I was thinking about the possibility
of transmitting our church worship
services to the whole community and
it was exciting to me to be able to reach
beyond the walls of our church. And as
I sat there I had what you might call a
vision, it just seemed like the walls of the
church were moving out… out in all four
directions. Just moving away and the
church kept getting bigger and moving
out, out, out. Further out. Until the walls
of the church were around the outskirts
of the city. And I thought, “Yes, Lord.
That’s what You want to do. You want to
make this church available to everyone in
this city. Little did I know then— I guess
God knew that to give me the full vision
at that time would be too much for me.
I’ll have to confess, I only had a vision of
reaching out to the city of Grants Pass.
Q: What was your wife’s role in the
ministry?
A: Bless her heart, she was supportive
from the very beginning. Everything I
have done with Better Life Broadcasting
has been in my spare time which took
time away from her and the family. And
I’ve never been paid for any of my work
with the television station, nor do I want
any. I consider this my gift of love to the
Lord and it’s more of a volunteer work
than anything else. There were times
when I seriously considered dropping
out. But my wife always said, “You don’t
want to do that, you think that over,
you pray about it. Don’t make any hasty
decisions.”
Because of her insistence and her
positive attitude I have been able to get
through the rough times.

Q: What is the most amazing thing
you’ve seen happen here?
A: I think when we reached out and
got a full power station that was a big
advance. And just this last year when
we got the second full power station in
Roseburg. Let me tell you, that was an
effort that took about four years and two
failures before it finally took place. Of
course, going on in Portland is huge!
Q: What do you expect it will be like
to meet in heaven the people who have
been touched by Better Life?
A: Oh wow, to see all those people…
yeah… there’s no compensation on
this earth that could compare with the
souls who we will be with for eternity in
heaven.
Q: What would you like to say to the
supporters of Better Life?
A: It’s one of the best investments you
can make. The worldly investments that
people make, especially in these last
days, haven’t done too well. But Better
Life gives millions of people hope and
truth. There is nothing like it for an
investment!

Tripling the Reach of the Gospel!
Better Life Broadcasting Tower
B etter Life has the opportunity to
TRIPLE the influence of it’s broadcast
stations! How is this possible? It’s due to
the new digital technology that is being
used in our transmitters. You see, once
a station has been converted to digital it
is then possible to “multicast,” that is, we
can broadcast several channels with the
same transmitter!
Let me share a practical example.
Take Portland, OR for instance.
(Although this example applies to ALL
our broadcast stations) Currently we
broadcast Better Life on channel 36.1, but
with multicasting we can add the Hope
channel on channel 36.2 and a Spanish
channel on 36.3, all coming from our
existing transmitter!
These other channels would greatly

increase the chance of a viewer stopping
to check out the Bible based programming
from Better Life. If they had already seen
a program on our first channel, maybe
the program on our second channel
would grab their attention!
Of course, adding a Spanish language
channel in the northwest would allow
evangelistic programming to reach a
whole new demographic group! Just
imagine how wonderful that would be!
As progress continues on switching our
stations over to digital, we are pressed
with the need to purchase the necessary
equipment that would make multicasting
a reality. The cost to expand the reach of
the gospel through multicasting is only
$650,000.

Oven-Baked Sweet Potato Fries
INGREDIENTS
2 Medium sweet potatoes (May
use other root vegetables like
rutabagas, parsnips or regular
potatoes.) Peel and cut into thin
strips.
3 Tbsp Natural almond butter,
smooth
1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/2 tsp fine sea salt
Optional spices: garlic salt,
curry powder, cumin, garam
masala, Chinese 5 spice powder,
etc. (about 1 tsp total)

delicious “Oven-Baked
Sweet Potato Fries!”
By varying the spices
and root vegetables
you can create several
scrumptious variations
from one recipe!
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 400F. Line a large
baking tray with parchment paper,
or spray with nonstick spray.
Place potato strips in large bowl.
In a small bowl, combine the
almond butter, oil, and spices.
Drizzle the coating over the fries,
and toss the mixture with a large
spoon (or even better, your hands)
until potatoes are evenly coated.
Line the fries up on the cookie
sheet in a single layer. Bake 35-50
minutes (depending on thickness
of your fries), until the coating is
browned and a bit crispy, and the
fries are fully cooked. Makes 3-4
servings. Will keep, refrigerated,
up to 3 days.
