Lab 1: Prepare the Infrastructure to Support Cisco Unified

Communications

1.1 Configure a voice VLAN on a Cisco Catalyst switch

Define VLAN

r1cat2(config)#

r1cat2(config)#vlan 101
r1cat2(config-vlan)#name Rack1_Voice
r1cat2(config-vlan)#

r1cat2(config)#vlan 201
r1cat2(config-vlan)#name Rack1_Data
r1cat2(config-vlan)#

Assign VLAN to IP Phone ports

interface FastEthernet0/1
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk native vlan 201
switchport mode trunk

To Verify go to privilege mode and type show vlan

1.2 Configure DHCP in CUCME to support IP phones

Exclude first 15 IP address and last 50 IP address.

HQ-TOR – use 66

HQ- SFO – use 65

ip dhcp excluded-address 135.Y.66.1 135.Y.66.14  block first 14 address

ip dhcp excluded-address 135.Y.66.51 135.Y.66.255  block address from 51 to 255

Define the scope for Voice VLAN

Example of : HQ-TOR configurations

ip dhcp pool voice

network 135.Y.66.0 255.255.255.0  The network address to be assign to IP phones
option 150 ip 135.Y.66.240  This is option 150 defines the IP of CME Router
default-router 135.Y.66.240  This is the default gateway for Cisco IP Phones

1.3 Configure NTP in CUCME to support IP phones

Define the Timezone first

r1uk(config)#clock timezone GMT 0

Define the IP address of NTP Server

r1uk(config)#ntp server 135.11.11.11

1.4 Verify the switch settings using show commands

To Verify type show run and you will see something like this.

memory-size iomem 10
clock timezone GMT 0
network-clock-participate wic 0

Lab 2: Configure Voice POTS Ports

2.1 Configuring T1/E1 Port

Isdn switch-type primary-ni  this is the switch type that your router is connected to

Network-clock-participate wic x  this for clocking

Controller t1 x/x/x

Framing esf  framing defined by service provider

Linecode b8zs  linecode defined by service provider
pri-group timeslot 1-6  Enable only 6 channel

Controller E1 x/x/x

Framing no-crc4
Linecode hdb3
pri-group timeslot 1-6  fractional E1 configuration.

When pri-group timeslot is configured, system will create D-channel interface

Interface serial 0/0:23 for T1 or interface serial 0/0:15 for E1

Lab 3: Configuring POTS Dial Peers

3.1 Configure POTS dial peers for your local IP Phones

Outbound Dial Peer match explicit Number

Dial-peer voice 1 pots

Destination-pattern 911
port 0/1/0:X your T1 or E1 D-Channel port
forward-digit 911  this is required because of explicit match

NOTE: forward-digit is required because destination-pattern match exact value of

911 therefore router will consume these number and send nothing to Telco
Provider. Thus telco will not know what to do with that call.

Alternatively you can use no-digit strip instead of forward-digit. To test a call
open your Remote Phone Control Software (asked the instructor if you don’t have
it) and then from the router use the following command

Router#> csim start 911

Outbound Dial Peer match explicit Number

Dial-peer voice 7 pots

Destination-pattern 9[2-9]..[2-9]…… (NOTE: 8 dots are there)
port 0/1/0:X

NOTE: In dial peer we are not using forward-digit because we want the 9 to be
drop and remaining number which are variable will be forwarded to PSTN.

To test a call open your Remote Phone Control Software (asked the instructor if
you don’t have it) and then from the router use the following command

Router#> csim start 980Y8YYY (where Y is your rack number)

Mini-Lab 3 Client Call Routing Requirement

Requirement

In order to save Long distance bill, client is requested to use SIP Trunk with Service Provider
VoiceBootcamp ITSP for all of their International Call. All 911, Local and National calls will be routed via
T1 port. PSTN call are not allowed between 5:00 PM to 8:59 AM in the morning. All International call
must use SIP Trunk with the following IP address 172.16.1.102. Ensure that all inbound calls from
international call include the + sign at the beginning of the number.

Since client is using ADSL, ensure that SIP Trunk only use Codec G.729 and UDP Port 5060 for both
inbound and outbound. Use a backup SIP trunk the following IP address 172.16.1.103 (does not exists in
our rack)

For User at Extension 5001, company wants to ensure that when this user is called, and if he/she is not
there, make sure it rings user’s mobile phone (141680Y8YYY) simultaneously

Client is particular about 911 calls. Ensure that if E911 call is made and for some reason client loses
connection to E911, E911 PSAP should be able to dial the client back to his/her desk.
