which has added to the importance of disaster and emergency medicine. Such relief and rescue

major disasters (explosions, chemical and nuclear accidents, etc.), international humanitarian aid
programmes (famines, epidemics, etc.) and military “peace-keeping operations” the method of
transporting the patient to the nearest hospital is often unfeasible. The rescue scenarios are
always unexpected and highly complex in the initial stages. The medical infrastructure – if one
exists at all – is overstretched or too far away. It is essential for relief operations to be based
around a mobile emergency unit located “at the scene of the action” to save lives acutely and
minimise fallout from injuries.

Technical module for self sufficiency.

The technical module consists of technically adapted generator and air conditioning unit and a
fresh water module and toolbox. This enables self sufficient operation of the Emergency Hospital
for a long time.

The shelter is air conditioned by split air conditioning units. This ensures that there is no
exchange with polluted air from the environment. A constant climate is also generated in the
shelter.

The technical module has additional storage space for:

The Endurance company Mass Accident Unit is used mainly for major disasters with a
large number of casualties. It serves primarily as a gathering point for the injured and a
place to dress their wounds.

Unlike the Mass Accident Units even the most basic version of the Endurance
company Emergency Hospitals is designed with follow-up treatment in mind including surgery
and limited inpatient stays. Emergency Hospitals are particularly suitable for disasters which
call for immediate life saving intensive care of the patients or where no adequate inpatient
facilities are available or within quick reach.

Endurance company Emergency Hospitals are based on the two system modules shelter and
tent. All the necessary key functions for example operations, X-rays, laboratory analysis etc. are
pre-installed and immediately ready for use in the shelters . They are interconnected by tents
which boast a new inflation technique and are used for primary care and follow-up treatment.

Mobility and transportation logistics are crucial in major disasters. As a rule it is assumed that
