a. Bisnis model canvas merupakan sebuah alat untuk menggambarkan
konsep, konsumen, infrastruktur maupun keuangan sebuah bisnis dalam
bentuk elemen-elemen visual yang pada umumnya dibagi menjadi 9
elemen.
Menurut Osterwalder dan Pigneur (2012) Business Model Canvas terbagi
menjadi sembilan bagian utama, yaitu: Customer Segments, Value
Propositions, Channel, Customer Relationships, Revenue Streams, Key
Resources, Key Activities, Key Partnerships dan Cost Structure.
b. Value Proposition
Proposisi nilai ini akan menggambarkan keunggulan produk, apa sajakah
poin-poin yang dapat mendatangkan benefit yang dibuat perusahaan
untuk customernya. Hal ini dijadikan sebagai keunggulan atau keunikan
yang membedakan bisnis perusahaan dengan bisnis yang lain.
Channels
Ini merupakan media pemasaran, dimana value proposition yang telah
dibuat dapat disampaikan ke customer melalui media pemasaran ini.
Penentuan channels merupakan elemen penting bagi kesuksesan bisnis
perusahaan. Misalnya, seperti youtube marketing atau facebook
marketing.
Revenue Streams
Ini akan menjawab bagaimana perusahaan mendapat keuntungan, bagian
ini termasuk vital karena ini adalah tujuan utama bisnis yaitu profit.
Elemen ini harus dikelola dengan sebaik mungkin untuk masa depan
bisnis yang cerah. Segala bahan baku, produk, atau kinerja harus
dimanfaatkan secara maksimal untuk mencapai profit yang diinginkan
perusahaan.
Key Resource
Elemen ini berisi tentang daftar sumber daya baik alam maupun non-
alam yang direncanakan dan dimiliki perusahaan. Ini juga salah satu alat
untuk mewujudkan value proposition sebuah bisnis.
Customer Relationship
perusahaan tentunya butuh menjalin ikatan dengan pelanggannya karena
pelanggan merupakan sebuah sumber pendapatan. Oleh karena itu
elemen ini akan berisikan poin atau kegiatan apa yang dapat diwujudkan
untuk bisa menjalin hubungan bisnis dengan customer.
Key Activities
Elemen ini berisi semua kegiatan yang berkaitan dengan produktivitas
bisnis yang menghasilkan produk atau servis. Poin-poin yang akan muncul
disini berupa rutinitas kegiatan dalam menciptakan proposisi nilai dalam
sebuah produk atau servis bisnis.
Key Partnership
Dalam usaha meningkatkan kualitas, efisiensi, efektivitas, dan performa
bisnis tentunya ada jalinan atau kerjasama dengan pihak tertentu, pihak
pihak yang akan mensupport key activities ini dimunculkan pada elemen
key partnership ini.
Cost Structure
Elemen ini menjelaskan biaya apa saja yang dibutuhkan untuk
memproduksi produk atau servis bisnis, tentunya hal yang harus di
perhatikan adalah meminimalisir biaya dan memaksimalkan profit tanpa
mengurangi kualitas.

 CHAPTER I

PRELIMINARY

A. Background

Butler is one of the service innovations that is now been developing in the

hotel industry. Butler services started from serving wine to the king and then

became the work of low-income people in the United Kingdom to serve the

householder until today, butler services are made into an academic activity in

certain countries and are implemented as a type of service for important guests,

VIP guests, or placeman to be used in hotel services. Butler services in the current

conditions, have begun to be applied not only to important guests but also

provided to regular guests and instead, replace the receptionist function.

Generally, butlers like this in Indonesia are only found in four-star hotels and

above with well-known hotel brands, both local chain hotels and international

chain hotels.

Besides being operated in big and famous 4 or above hotel star in Indonesia,

another thing that makes the butler service different and looks more sophisticated

than the receptionist or concierge department in general is their uniform fashion

and their flexibility service provided.

According to Christina Abernathy (2007), Butler is worker who has a job to

handle guest from their first arrival at the door, giving any kinds of personal

service, and serve food and beverage at table directly as well. The services

provided can be said as a multitasking services that must be qualified for more
than one department at the same time. This being strengthened with the concept of

a butler according to TIBA academy on their official website that modern butler

services nowadays must also be able to ironing, sewing, polishing guest shoes,

packing and unpacking guest luggage, preparing and serving drinks welcome,

breakfast, lunch and dinner. In addition, butler services are known with more

detailed, special, and specific attention related to guest desires or guest’s

psychological during a guest hotel stay.

From the work described, butler absolutely needs everything that could

support the work of the butler himself, which one of the things is uniform.

Uniform is one of the supporting butler work tool which is considered important

especially the image of the butler because the appearance of the butler must be

able to give the impression of wow to the guests. Besides that, the butler fashion

is also identified as classy, fashionable, and neat. This can be seen from the butler

clothing since the Victorian era that the butler dress includes suits, vests, gloves,

etc. which at that time clothing such as suits was only worn by a group of people

with a middle to upper class economy. Therefore, fashionable working uniform

are very important to support the quality of work of a butler.

According to the book titled Belajar Busana: Mudah dan Menyenangkan

(Mira Fadila, 2018: 24) There is a difference about fashion definition and clothing

meaning. Fashion more into style that most people like, while clothing is the

needs of human life to be fulfill to cover their body. It means fashion could be

distinguished with a beauty value or simply has the impression of being pleasing

to the eye. Things in fashion generally includes:

 1. Absolute, basic clothing such as shirts, pants and skirts.

2. Milineries, which is complementary clothing which is complete the basic

clothing, such as shoes, suits, hats and gloves.

3. Accessories, which is complementary to clothes, which the function is just

add more the beauty value of the wearers, such as earring, necklace, and so

on.

Whereas what is meant by uniform are standard clothing to support work

activities that are used while working or carrying out work activities and their

functions are adjusted to the specific tasks that they do. As one of the work

support tools, of course work clothes must be able to express their work which

includes conditions of safety, performance, and image. In addition to support

work activities, there are also several criterias for work clothing models that are

generally simple, not having many folds, wrinkles, and pockets so as not to

interfere with work activities.

Related with this current explanation, one of the butler uniform in general is

gloves as work support tools because the work of the butler combines several

departments, which one of it is the food and beverage section so the butler must

also provide food and beverage service to guests in order to maintain hygiene well

of their service presentation. In addition, butler uniform is made with a classy

impression because it is indeed the services provided to important guests or

ordinary guests in high star hotels in general. Furthermore, how could the butler

fashion be considered fashionable? Fashionable according to Kamus Besar Bahasa

Indonesia is in accordance with nowadays fashion, which mean up-to-date

fashion, this is in line with what Tore Berger said that butler uniform that spreads

in the media is often found not up-to-date fashion and stick to the old style like

wearing vests, waist coast, gray strips, white gloves, and black or gray ties like in

the past of Victorian era. Tore Berger also added however, the butler attire must

be different from other uniform, especially those worn by guests. In fact, butler

uniforms are currently using more ordinary blazers and trousers with color

variations that are adapted to current fashions. In addition, in fact the gloves used

by the butlers are also still exactly the same as the models in the Victorian era

with white color, especially in Indonesia the gloves worn are not in accordance

with the definition of fashion and the principle of uniform models because when it

be used, the cloth gloves will look loose, many folds, and wrinkles which will not

be pleasing to the eye and interfere with work activities. Because after all the

butler uniform must be different from other uniform, especially those worn by

guests.

The use of white gloves since the Victorian era according to the book titled

The Butler Speaks (Charles MacPerson: 2013) is that white gloves in the early

20th century were not worn by butlers, only worn by footman whose position is

lower than the butler, but when the footman rises to a higher level of status or

position, then the footman no longer needed the white gloves. However, unlike

today, the opposite is true, the higher the position of the butler in an

organizational structure, the more common or frequent service with the use of

gloves to be given by them, a butler will carry the tray left handed, and the right

hand will be placed behind their back.

 Based on the book described and cites such as Butler's Gloves brand and RL

Brand where gloves are sold through Amazon and Alibaba sites with a price range

of one dollar to nine dollars, the gloves that sold there are made from one hundred

cotton on average or mixed with other materials but the gloves fashion model is

equipped with buttons which will not be practical in use. Meanwhile, as we know

the work of butlers in this modern era requires agility when working and are

demanded to be fast especially in certain conditions, therefore according to the

work requirements of the butler, the butler gloves in addition requiring practical

and fashionable models, butler gloves also need to be made from materials that

are lightweight, easy to absorb sweat, and elegant when used.

Besides to the need for butler work to be nimble and fast at the present time,

there also many impacts that affects butler work by the technological

developments on going in this age that will continue to develop, some Indonesian

hotels such as the Raffles Hotel Jakarta have started using touchscreen tablets for

their work needs in serving guests to check in, this tablet is used for guest

registration and room payments. With technology as another work support tool for

butler, there should be things in tune or cooperate between work support tools

used so that the work performed can be maximized. This will indeed require the

use of gloves that will more multifunction. According to Kamus Besar Bahasa

Indonesia multifunction is having various functions. When gloves are made with

one hundred percent cotton, the gloves will not have a touch screen-friendly

function because they do not allow fingerprints to be detected by the tablet's touch

screen, therefore the fashion model of the gloves must also be considered for the
practicality of their use in order to support the work of the butler which is more

efficient and multifunctional.

Based on this, it can be seen that in Indonesia there is a mismatch between the

butler work attire consisting of the complementary uniform which is butler glove

with the fundamental of fashion, basic butler attributes, and butler work

requirements that have been described. Butler gloves which are currently always

used, especially in Indonesia, are the same white gloves with the same gloves used

in ceremonies or used by ordinary people, party and even weddings. White gloves

at that time usually made of only cotton and monotonous models as well, so the

milineries is not in accordance with the basic model of uniform that must be

comfortable and compatible, such as folds and wrinkles problem. It is also not in

accordance with the definition of fashion because this can cause gloves to look

unpleasant related to the era development because the model is still following the

old tradition or conservative, butler fashion supposed to be balance to this era

development that commonly using gadgets in every work environment nowadays

Based on the explanation that has been described previously, the author would

like to conduct an experiment with the title "Extra-function Butler Glove". In this

experiment the author would like to explore materials for making gloves to keep

touchscreen friendly and try designing butler gloves models to be more

fashionable and not conservative. In addition, the authors are interested in this

experiment because the total cost to produce these gloves is quite economical

which costs around ten thousand rupiah to the most expensive range of two

hundred thousand rupiah.

B. Formulation of the Problem

Based on the phenomenon of the use of white gloves that have been described,

then the following is a formulation of the problem that the author can conclude.

1. How is the combination of materials, models, and colors that could make

the butler gloves seems more fashionable, elegant, and more

multifunctional?

2. What is the design and process for making multifunctional butler gloves?

3. How is the detail of cost occurred for manufacturing this multifunctional

butler gloves?

C. Research Objectives

1. As a term and condition of student graduation from Sekolah Tinggi

Pariwisata NHI Bandung.

2. Find out whether the function of butler gloves could be enhanced by

experimented the certain materials, models and colors according to their

aesthetics and functionality.

D. Research Benefits

This research can be utilized by researchers, related institutions, and

institutions. The following is a description of these benefits.

1. For researchers

a. Add the author's knowledge of butler fashion science.

b. Train more creativity in developing new innovations about butler

gloves.
