JEREMIAH 50:43 - 44 “The king of Babylon hath hear d the repor t of
them, and his hands waxed feeble: anguish took hold of him, and
pang s as of a wom a n in travail. Behold he shall come up like a lion
from the swelling of Jordan unto the habitation of the strong:”
SO WE KNOW THAT BABYLON IS THE HEAD OF GOLD, AND THE FIRST
BEAST WHICH WAS A LION WITH EAGLE’S WINGS. WHICH ROSE TO
POWER IN THE YEAR 606 B.C. IN THE BRITISH MUSEUM YOU WILL FIND A
GREAT STONE TAKEN FROM THE ANCIENT CITY OF BABYLON- WHICH
PORTRAYS A LION WITH WINGS. THIS WAS THE SYMBOL OF BABYLON.

BABYLON WAS MADE UP OF THREE KINGDOMS BABYLON, LYDIA, AND
EGYPT. THE NEXT KINGDOM TO RULE IS DESCRIBED NEXT. THIS
KINGDOM IS MEDO- PERSIA.

HERE GOD TELLS US THAT BABYLON WILL BE DIVIDED BY THE MEDES
AND THE PERSIANS .
DANIEL5:31 “And Darius the median took the kingdo m, being
about threescor e and two years old.”
DANIEL7:5 “And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and
it raised itself up on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of
it betwe e n the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, arise and
devour much flesh.”
THIS SECOND BEAST DESCRIBES PERSIA THE SECOND KINGDOM TO RULE.
THE THREE RIBS STAND FOR THE THREE KINGDOMS BABYLON
CONQUERED UP TO THE YEAR 606 B.C. BABYLON WAS MADE UP OF
THREE KINGDOMS BABYLON, LYDIA, AND EGYPT. PERSIA CONQUERED
THE WORLD IN 538 B.C. THE PERSIANS WERE STONGER THAN THE MEDES
AND CONQUERED THEM SOON AFTER. DANIEL SAW THIS IN VISION
ALSO, AND FORETOLD OF THIS AS WELL, WHICH WE SEE NEXT.
DANIEL 8:3- 4 “Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold,
there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the
two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the
higher came up last. I saw the ram pushing westw a r d, and
north w a r d, and south w ar d; so that no beasts might stand before
him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but
he did accor din g to his will and beca m e great.”

DANIEL 2:39 “And another third kingdo m of brass, which shall bear
rule over all the earth.”
DANIEL7:6 “After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopar d, which
had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four
head s ; and dominion was given to it.”
THIS WAS GREECE WHICH CONQUERED PERSIA, THIS WAS DONE BY THE
HAND OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT. THE FOUR WINGS STAND FOR THE SPEED
IN WHICH HE CONQUERED THE WHOLE WORLD. HE DID IT IN 13 YEARS
FASTER THAN ANY COUNTRY IN HISTORY HAS DONE. HE BEGAN AT THE
AGE OF 18 AND FINISHED AT 31 YEARS OF AGE.
DANIEL 8:5 “And as I was considerin g, behold, an he goat came from
the west on the face of the whole earth, and touche d not the ground:
and the he goat had a notable horn betwee n his eyes. And he came to
the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing before the
river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power. And I saw him come
close unto the ram, and he was move d with choler against him, and
smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in
the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the groun d, and
sta m p e d upon him: and there was none who could deliver the ram out
of his hand.”
DANIEL 8:21 “And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great
horn that is betwe e n his eyes is the first king.”
DANIEL 11:3 “And a might y king shall stand up, that shall rule with
great dominion, and do according to his will.”
ISN’T IT INTERESTING HOW HE PREDICTIED THIS 207 YEARS BEFORE IT
HAPPENED? AND IT HAPPENED EXACTLY AS HE SAID IT WOULD. LOOK IN

THE ART OF WAR IN THE WESTERN WORLD chapter 1 Ancient

Warfare pg.25 2 nd and 3 rd paragraph. At Arbela, Alexander's third
major battle against the Persians, he again met Darius , who had
assembled a large, heterogeneous army which even included
chariots and a few elepha nts. To save his crum bling empire, Darius
waited to receive the greek invaders in battle, having wisely chosen
level ground suitable for his calvary and chariots. Since his army,
thought powerful lacked much heavy infantry, he had placed his
mounted troops in the forefront of his array. Alexander moved his
army forward to attack the Persian army, leading the right flank
himself. He could clearly see Darius in the center, “conspicuous in
the midst of his life- guard, a tall and fine looking ma n, drawn in a
lofty chariot, defended by an abunda nce of the best horse, who stood
in close order about it, ready to receive the enem y.” As the armies
became closely engaged, Alexander led his Compa nions and heavy
infantry phalanx against the enem y center, the Compa nions
defeating the Persian army by “ thrusting themselves against the
Persians and striking their faces with their spears” and routing their
center. Darius saw that “all was lost, that those who were placed in
front to defend him were broken and beat back upon him, that he
could not turn or disengage his chariot without great difficulty, the
wheels being clogged and entangled among the dead bodies, which
lay in such heaps as not only stopped, but almost covered the horses,
and made them rear and grow so unruly, that the frightened
charioteer could govern them no longer.” The defeated Persian
monarch did escape, moun ted on a horse. Alexander turned away
with his men to rescue his hard - pressed left and win a decisive
victory . IT ALSO STATES WITHOUT ALEXANDER'S GENIUS THE GREEKS
COULD NOT HAVE CONQUERED THE PERSIAN EMPIRE. SOON AFTER HE DIED
AT THE AGE OF 33 FROM ALCOHOL POISONING WHILE DRINKING WITH HIS
TROOPS, HE BELIEVED THE STRONG SHOULD RULE THE WEAK, AND LEFT HIS
KINGDOM DIVIDED BETWEEN HIS FOUR GREATEST GENERALS. DANIEL ALSO
PREDICTED THIS…TWICE!!! SO WHAT ABOUT THE FOUR HEADS OF THE 3 RD
BEAST, THE FOUR HORNS OF THE HE GOAT AND ALEXANDER’S FOUR
GENERALS?
DANIEL 11:4 “And when he shall stand up, his kingdo m shall be divided
towar d the four winds of heaven; and not to his prosperity, nor according to
his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdo m shall be plucked up, even for
others beside thoses.”
DANIEL7:6 “The beast had also four heads; and dominion was given
to it .”
DANIEL 8:8 “Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he
was strong, the great horn was broken; and it came up four notable
ones towar d the four winds of heav en.”

DANIEL 8:22 TELLS US THAT GREECE WOULD BE DIVIDED INTO FOUR
KINGDOMS, BUT ALEXANDER WOULD NOT BE THE RULER. ALEXANDER'S
FOUR LEADING GENERALS WERE 1)CASSANDER, 2)LYSIMACHAS , 3)SELEUCUS,
4)PTOLEMY, ALL THIS TOOK PLACE IN THE YEAR 168 B.C. THE SAME YEAR
ROME CONQUERED GREECE. DANIEL ALSO PREDICTS THE FALL OF GREECE

ROME CAME TO POWER AMID THE DIVIDED LAND AFTER ALEXANDER’S
DEATH.
DANIEL 8:10 - 11 “And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven;
and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground,
and stampe d upon them. Yea, he magnified himself even to the
prince of the host , and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away ,
and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.”
DANIEL8:12 “And the host was given him against the daily sacrifice by
reason of transgr es sion, and it cast down the truth to the ground ; and
it practiced and pros per e d.”
THE DAILY SACRIFICE OF THE JEWS WAS NOT TAKEN AWAY UNTIL CHRIST
WAS CRUCIFIED ON THE CROSS. PILATE WAS THE GOVERNOR WHOM THE
JEWS BROUGHT JESUS BEFORE. HE WAS ONE OF THE GOVERNOR’S OF ROME.

DANIEL2:40 “and the fourth kingdo m shall be as strong as iron :
foras m u c h as iron break e t h in pieces and subdueth all things: and as
iron break in pieces and bruise.”
DANIEL7:7 “and after this I saw in the night visions, and behold a
fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong excee dingly; and it had

ROME CONQUERED GREECE IN THE YEAR 168 B.C. AND RULED UNTIL 476
A.D IT WAS OFTEN CALLED THE IRON MONARCHY. SO FAR DANIEL HAS
PERFECTLY PREDICTED RISE OF THE ROMAN KINGDOM OVER 438 YEARS
BEFORE IT HAPPENED.
DANIEL 7:24 “And the ten horns out this kingdom are ten kings

JUSTINIAN WAS THE LAST EMPEROR OF ROME, CONSTANTINE THE

STOPPED THE PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS AND SOUGHT TO BRING
PAGANISM AND CHRISTIANITY UNDER THE SAME ROOF. HE SUCCEEDED,
WITH THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, AFTER THE DEATH OF CONSTANTINE ROME
WAS AT THE MERCY OF POPE SYLVESTER.

peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of
princes; but he shall be broken without hand.”
CONSTANTINE WAS NOT BROKEN BY ANY ENEMY AND HE BY HIS OWN WILL
MOVED HIS THRONE TO CONSTANTINOPLE, LEAVING NOONE TO RULE IN
ROME BUT THE POPE, UPON HIS DEATH THE DONATION OF CONSTANTINE
SURFACED. SO WHAT ABOUT HIS POLICY? LET’S FIRST LOOK AT THE BIBLE.
EXODUS 20:8- 11 “Reme m b e r the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days
shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the
Sabb a th of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou,

THE ABOVE VERSE IS THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT.
REVELATION 14:12 “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they
that keep the com m a n d m e n t s of God, AND the faith of Jesus .

NOTICE IT SAYS COMMANDMENTS OF GOD AND THE FAITH OF JESUS, NOT

OR THE FAITH OF JESUS. THIS TELLS US STRAIGHT FORWARD THAT THOSE
SAVED WILL DO BOTH.
1 JOHN 5:3 “For this is the love of God, that we keep his
com m a n d m e n t s : and his com m a n d m e n t s are not grievous.”
THIS IS WHAT GOD WANTS.
MATTHEW 19:17 “And he said unto him, why callest thou me good?
There is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life ,
keep the com m a n d m e n t s .”
HERE JESUS TELLS US IF WE WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN TO KEEP THE
COMMANDMENTS, FOR THERE IS ONLY ONE OTHER LIFE BESIDES THE ONE
WE ALREADY LIVE AND THAT IS ETERNAL LIFE. THE NEXT VERSE TELLS US
THAT THE COMMANDMENTS LAST FOREVER.
PSALMS 111:7 - 8 “The works of his hands are verity and judgment;
ALL his com m a n d m e n t s are sure. They stand fast for ever and ever ,
and are done in truth and uprightnes s.”

We shall now examine the reason God chose to designate this first beast of
revelation 13 as a leopar d - - - Grecian in substance. “Scholasticism reached its
height in the writings of the Dominican friar, Thoma s of Aquinas, “the angelic
doctor.” His syste m a tic exposition of the catholic faith in terms of Aristotelian
philosophy produced a revolution in Christian thought, for Augustine and
Anselm, the Christian thinkers in general before Aquinas, had regarde d
Platonism as the specifically Christian philosophy. (Henry Bettenson,
documents of the Christian church, p.199)” here we see that Augustine, bishop
of hippo (354 - 430), whose grossly faulted theolog y dominate d roman catholic
thinking from the fifth century, brought the Greek pagan concepts of Plato
(428 B.C.- 348 B.C) into the Christian church. Anselm (1033 - 1109) who served
as Archbishop of Canterbur y is regard e d by Roman Catholics as the greatest
theologian in the 800 year period between Augustine and Thomas Aquinas.
Thomas Aquinas (1225 - 1274) merge d the views of the pagan Greek
philosopher, Aristotle (384 B.C- 322 B.C.), with Christianity. As we shall later
document, it was he who advocate d death for heretics as just, and the use of
the state to enforce the church’s punishment of heretics. Thus in describing the
first beast Revelation 13 as a leopard beast, Christ revealed to the apostle
John a faith built on Greek philosophy intermixed with Christianity. The use of
the symbol of the leopard power, Greece, from Daniel 7 is a most important
and accurate clue to the identity of the first beast of Revelation 13. God’s
symbols are always full of meaning. This beast possessed the feet of a bear,
the symbol of the empire of Medo - Persia. It would crush opposition underfoot
as did Medo - Persia. In what way was Medo - Persia able to crush opposition
under its feet? The kings of Medo - Persia were deified (considere d gods) and
so, as gods, they were declare d to be infallible in their decision making. Thus
we read that their laws could not be altered once they were enacted by the
king. We site two instances from Scripture. DANIEL 6:8, 12 “ Now, O king,
establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to
the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not (does not change). Then
they came near, and spoke before the king concerning the kings decree; Hast
thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God
or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of
lions? The king answer e d and said, the thing is true, according to the law of
the Medes and Persians, which altereth not. ESTHER 8:7,8 “Then the king
Ashuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, behold, I have
given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the gallows,
because he laid his hand upon the Jews. Write ye also for the Jews, as it liketh
you, in the kings name, and seal it with the kings ring: for the writing which is
written in the kings name, and sealed with the kings ring, may no man
reverse. Here is another one. DANIEL 6:15 “Then these men assem bled unto
the king, and said unto the king, Know O king, that the law of the Medes and

Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be
changed.” The long tradition of papal infallibility in the Roman Catholic
Church and its proclam ation by Pope Pius IX, in 187 0 as a dog ma to be
believed by all, is in the tradition of the bear (Medo - Persia) and is a powerful
weapon designed to crush all dissent (difference of opinion) from papal
proclam ations. How appropriat e that this powe r be represente d, in symbol, to
possess the feet of a bear. This beast would speak the words of Babylon. This
last feature must be reme m b e r e d, for the book of Revelation represents this
powerful entity as spiritual Babylon in chapters 14, 16, 17, and 18. Thus it was
appropriate for God to depict this power possessing the mouth of a lion, the
symbol of Babylon in Daniel 7.
There is yet a deeper and even more sinister meaning in the designation of the
beast’s having the mouth of a lion. Babylon enforced worship by the issuing of
a death decree designe d to quell all dissent. This decree was issued as the
leader’s gathere d on the plain of Dura to perfor m an act of worship before the
image set up by this beast (lion) power. DANIEL 3:1- 6 “Nebuchadne z z a r the
king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the
breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of
Babylon. Then Nebuchadne z z a r the king sent to gather together the princes,
the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasure rs, the counselors, the
sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the
image which Nebuchadne z z a r the king had set up. Then the princes, the
governor s, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the
sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces were gathered unto the dedication
of the image that Nebuchadne z z a r the king had set up; and they stood before
the image that Nebuchadne z z a r had set up. Then an herald cried aloud, To
you it is comm ande d, O people, nations, and languages, that at what time ye

worshippet h shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery
furnace. Thus the mouth of the 1 st beast of Revelation 13repre sent e d fearful
persecution of God’s people as a death decree was invoked for conscientious
dissenters to the king’s decree. The second beast of Revelation 13, we are
informed, uses its mighty powe r to enforce worship of the first beast.
REVELATION 13:12 “And he excerciseth all the power of the first beast before
him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first
beast, whose deadly wound was healed.” How appro p riat e that this coerced
worship is said to involve the making of an image to the beast, paralleling that
which happened under Babylon, the lion power, on the plain of Dura.
REVELATION 13:14,15 “And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the
means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast;
saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the
beast, which had the wound by a sword and did live. And he had power to give
life unto the image of the beast, that the image should both speak, and cause
that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.”
Thus the first beast of Revelation 13 is identified as a power - - -
1. The very theology of which is based upon Greek philosophy;

AS WE WILL LEARN IN THE NEXT VERSE, THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN
JESUS AND GOD WAS NOT ENTIRELY KNOWN TO EVERYONE, SAVE THE
HOLY APOSTLES AND PROPHETS, TO THE SONS OF MEN IT WAS ONLY
KNOWN THAT A SAVIOR WAS TO COME AND DELIVER THE JEWS, A
MESSIAH. IF HOSTAGES ARE TAKEN IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY AND THE
PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.A IS GOING TO SEND THEM SOMEONE TO
DELIVER THEM FROM THE HANDS OF THEIR ENEMIES, IT IS NOT
EXPECTED THAT BUSH WOULD SEND HIS SON TO DO IT, IT ASSUMED
THAT HE WOULD SEND SOMEONE OF A LOWER RANK. THAT’S WHY
BEFORE CHRIST CAME HE WAS KNOWN ONLY AS THE MESSIAH. GOD OR
THE SON OF GOD IS NO WHERE CONTAINED IN THE DEFINITION OF THE

WHERE OUR SALVATION COMES FROM, 2) WHO MAY ALSO BE SAVED
(THE GENTILES [NON- JEWS]), 3) AND BY WHAT MEANS WE MAY FIND
THIS OUT. NOTICE ABOVE IT SAYS “WHEN YE READ” SO PAUL
UNDOUBTEDLY KNEW NOT ALL WOULD HEAR THE TRUTH AS IT WAS
SPOKEN BY THE SPIRIT THROUGH HIM AT THAT PARTICULAR TIME,
SOME WOULD HAVE TO READ THE SCRIPTURES TO FIND OUT. LIKE FOR
INSTANCE PEOPLE AFTER HIS DEATH.

HAVE FAITH IN CHRIST. SO HOW DOES “THE MYSTERY OF INIQUITY”
OPPOSE THE MYSTERY OF THE FELLOWSHIP OF GOD? LETS FIND OUT
THROUGH SCRIPTURE, IT FIRST BEHOOVES US TO FIND OUT WHERE
INIQUITY FIRST STARTED. SO LET US NOW LOOK TO SCRIPTURE TO FIND

THE CONGREGATION, NOT ON A MOUNT OF A CONGREGATION . HE IS
SPECIFIC. HE WANTS TO BE WORSHIPPED BY MAN, GODS CREATION. HE
CAN ONLY DO THIS BY DECEPTION. HE HAS TO DECIEVE MAN INTO
BELIEVING HE IS WORSHIPPING GOD WHEN IN FACT HE IS WORSHIPPING,
SATAN. HE HAS TO ESTABLISH A FALSE SYSTEM OF BELIEF, HIS OWN
RELIGEON. HE SEEKS TO OBTAIN THAT WHICH IS NOT RIGHTLY HIS
THROUGH THEFT. HOW ELSE COULD HE DECIEVE MAN EXCEPT
THROUGH SELF EXALTATION? THE WORD “CONGREGATION” HAS SOME
VERY INTERESTING DEFINITIONS IN THE DICTIONARY (WEBSTERS

THEM AN INSIGHT AS TO WHAT MUST HAPPEN FIRST. PAUL WARNS US
OF THE MYSTERY OF INIQUITY IN THE BIBLE SO LETS TAKE A LOOK AT
SCRIPTURE.

deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there be a
falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.

BELIEF, ONE IN WHOSE DOCTRINES, DIRECTLY OPPOSE THE WORD OF
GOD (HOLY BIBLE) BUT SHARE ENOUGH SIMILARITIES TO DECIEVE EVEN
THE VERY ELECT.
SO THE QUESTION IS HOW, CAN HE ESTABLISH ENOUGH CREDIBILTY TO
DECIEVE DOCTORS AND HIGHLY EDUCATED THEOLOGIANS, AND
PASTORS, AS WELL AS THE MASSES? THE ANSWER IS
1) SATAN HAS TO CREATE A FALSE LINEAGE THAT REACHES BACK TO
THE TIME OF CHRIST
2) IT WOULD HAVE TO BE ESTABLISHED AFTER THE CRUCIFIXTION
3) IT WOULD HAVE TO CLOSELY PARALLEL TRUTH YET LEAD AWAY
FROM IT AND YET SHARE SOME CHARACTERISTICS OF IT.
4) IT WOULD HAVE TO INCORPORATE THE BIBLE, YET BE BELIEVED TO
BE ABOVE IT (SO AS NOT TO BE BROUGHT DOWN BY IT)
5) IT WOULD HAVE TO BE SEEN AS A FORM OF CHRISTIANITY SINCE
CHRISTIANITY IS BASED AROUND JESUS CHRIST (AND SINCE THE SPIRIT
OF SATAN IS THE ANTICHRIST)
WE FIND THAT THE APOSTLE JOHN WARNS US OF THIS.
1 JOHN 2:18- 19 “Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have
heard that antichrist shall come , even now are there many
antichrists ; whereb y we know that it is the last time. They went out

THE PAPACY WITHOUT A DOUBT MATCHES ALL 5 OF THESE CRITERIA,

him, feed my sheep;” that Christ in these words committed to Peter
the care of the whole Church, pastors as well as people; that Rome
was the seat of this bishoprick of Peter; that the popes succeed ed
him in his see, and, in virtue of this succe ss ion, inherited all the
royalties and jurisdiction, the functions and virtues, with which
Peter became invested when Christ address ed him in the words we
have quoted; that this “mystic oil” has flowed down through the
“golden pipes,”—the popes, - - - to our day; that it resides in all its
fullnes s in the present occupant of Peters chair; and that it is
thence diffused by innumerable lesser pipes, formed by the
bishop s and priests, to the remotest extremities of the Roman
Catholic world, vivifying and sanctifying all its members, giving
authority to all its priests, and validity and efficacy to all their
official acts .”
The two main reason s assigned by Dens why the Roman Church is
termed apostolic are, first , That “the doctrine delivered by the
apostles is the same which she has always held, and will continue
to hold ;” and second , Because that Church “posses s e s a lawful and
uninterrupted succes sion of bishops, especially in the chair of
Peter.” “Messiah founded the kingdom of his holy Church in
Judea,” says Dr. Milner , “and chose his apostles to propagate it
throughout the earth, over whom he appointed Simon as the centre
of union and head pastor, and changing his name into that of

PETER or ROCK; adding, ‘On this rock I will build my Church.’ Thus
dignified, St. Peter first established his see at Antioch, the head of
city of Asia; whence he sent his disciple St. Mark to establish and
govern the see of Alexandria, the head city of Africa. He afterwards
remo v e d his own see to Rome, the capital of Europe and the world.
Here, having with St. Paul sealed the gospel with his blood, he
transmitted his prerogative to St. Linus, from whom it descended in
succes sion to St. Cletus and St. Clement.” In Dr. Challoner’s
Grounds of the Catholic Doctrine, as contained in the profession of
faith published by Pope Pius IV, it asserted “that the Church of
Christ must be apostolical by a succes sion of pastors, and a lawful
mission derived from the apostles;” and when it is asked “how do
you prove this?” it is answered; 1 st , “because only those who can
derive their lineage from the apostles are the heirs of the apostles!
And, consequ ently, they alone can claim the right to the Scriptures,
to the administration of the sacraments, or any share in the
pastoral ministry: it is their proper inheritance, which they have
receive d from the apostles, and the apostles from Christ.” “Her
[Catholic Church] pastors, says Keenan, are the only pastors on
earth who can trace their mission from priest to bishop and from
bishop to pope, back through every century, until they trace that
mission to the apostles.” This is a vital point with Rome. The
primacy of Peter is her corner- stone; and if that is removed, the
whole fabric tumbles into ruin. It reasonable then to ask some
proof of that long claim of facts by which she [Catholic Church]
attempts to link the humble fishermen with the more than imperial
pontiffs. We are entitled to demand that the Church of Rome
produce conclusiv e incontrovertible proof of the following
points:- - That 1)Christ constituted Peter prince of the apostles and
head of the whole Church ; 2) that Peter went to Rome , and there
established his see ; 3) that, dying at Rome, he transmitted to his
succes s ors in his charge the rights and prerogative s of his
sovereignty ; and that, 4) these have been handed down through an
unbroken series of bishops, every one of whom posse s s e d and
exercised Peter’s powers and prerogative s . If the Church fails in
establishing any ONE of these points, she FAILS as regards to the
whole. The loss of one link in this chain is as fatal as the loss of all.
But alas for Rome! Not one of the positions above stated has she
proved to be true, and not a few of them can be show n to be false
[which means A LOT can be proven false] . The words of our Lord
to Peter, already quoted, the anchor by which Rome endeavors to
fasten the ves sel of her Church to the rock of Christianity: “Thou
art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church; and the gates
of hell shall not prevail against it.” As it happens that, in the
original text, the term Peter and the term rock closely resemble
each other, the Church of Rome has taken advantage of this,

dexterousl y, and by a kind of sleight of hand, to substitute the one

for the other, and thus to read the passage substantially as
follow s:- - Thou art Peter; and upon thee, Peter, will I build my
Church. We look upon such feats of interpretation much as we
gaze upon the feats of the juggler. Who but the Roman doctors
could have evolved from this plain passage a whole race of popes?
Why, even with the aid of papal spectacles, or tradition, which
disco v ers so many wonderful things in Scripture never seen by the
man who examine s it simply with the eyes of his understanding,
do we fail to make out this sens e from the passage? For the opinion
of the fathers [of the Catholic Church] on the words of our Lord to
Peter is directly opposed to the interpretation which the Church of
Rome has put upon them; and every priest swears at his ordination
that he “will not interpret the Scriptures but, according to
unanimou s consent of the fathers.” Peter but a moment before
made his great confes sion, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the
living God.” And says Poole, in his examination of the Churches
infallibility, “The fathers generally understood this rock to be, not
Peters person, but his confes sion, or Christ, as confes s ed by him.
Vide St. Cyril, Hilary, Hierom, Ambrose, Basil, and Austin, who are
proved by Moulins, in his discourse entitled ‘The Novelty of
Popery,’ to have held this opinion.” Of the same sentiments were
Chrysosto m, Theodoret, Origen, and others. Here, then we leave
priests of Rome taking a solem n oath at the ordination that they
will not interpret Scripture except with the unanimou s consent of
the fathers , and yet interpreting the passage in a sense directly
contrary to the concurrent opinion of the fathers. What, then, are
we to understand by the “rock” on which Christ declared that he
would build his Church? Whether we are to understand Peter, who
afterwards thrice denied him, or the great truth which Peter had
just confes s e d, even the eternal deity of Christ? The fathers, we
have seen, interpreted “this rock” of Christ himself, or of the
confes sion of his deity by Peter; and so will every man, we venture
to affirm, who is competent to form an opinion, and has no object
to serve but the discov ery of truth. Our Lord, knowing the time of
his death to be nigh, thought it well, as they journeyed onward, to
direct the current of the conversation to topics relating to the
nature and foundation of that kingdom which was so shortly to be
visibly erected in the world. “Whom do men say that I, the Son of
man am?” said he to his disciples. To this interrogatory (formal
question or inquiry), the disciples replied and enumeration of the
various opinions held respecting him by the people at large. “But,”
said he, directing his question specially to the disciples, - - “whom
do ye say that I am? ” and Simon Peter answered and said, “Thou
art the Christ the Son of the living God.” Pleased to find his true
character so clearly understood, so firmly believed in, and so

frankly avow ed, our Lord turned to Peter and said, “Blessed art
thou, Simon Barjona; for flesh and blood hath not revealed IT unto
thee. ” What IT? Unquestionably the truth he had just
ackno wledge d, that Jesus is “the Christ, the Son of the living
God,”—a truth which lay at the foundation of his mission, which
lay at the foundation of all his reaching, and, by conseque nc e, at
the foundation of that syste m of truth commo nl y called his
kingdom, which he was to erect in the world, and which therefore,
was a fundamental truth, if any truth ever merited to be called
such ; for unles s it be true that Jesus was “the Christ, the Son of the
living God,” there is nothing true in Christianity, - - it is all a fable .
We must bear in mind, then, in proceeding to the next clause, that
it was on this truth, which both Papist and Protestant must confes s
to be the very first truth in Christianity, that the minds of our Lord
and his disciples were now undividedly fixed . “And I say unto
thee,” continues our Lord, “that thou art Peter; and upon this rock
will I build my Church.” Upon what rock? Upon Peter, say
Romanists, grounding their interpretation upon the similarity of
sound, “Tu es Petrus, et super hanc petram .” Upon the truth had
Peter just confess e d, say Protestants, grounding their principles of
sense, and the reason of the thing. “Upon this rock,” says our Lord,
not upon thee , the rock, but upon this rock, namely, the truth you
have now enunciated in the words “the Christ the Son of the living
God ,”—a truth which has been a matter of special revelation to
thee, the belief in which has made you truly bless ed, and a truth
which holds a place so fundamental and essential in the gospel
kingdom, that it may be well termed “a rock. ” What is the Church?
Is it not an association of men holding certain truths? The
members of the Church are united, not by their belief in certain
men, but by their belief in certain principles.”
THIS UNDOUBTEDLY PROVES THAT THE WHOLE FOUNDATIONAL
SUPPORT FOR THE SYSTEM OF ROMAN CATHOLICISM
IS “THE MYSTERY OF INIQUITY” IT HAS ALL OF THE QUALITIES. IT EVEN
SAYS IN BIBLE TO BEWARE OF FALSE TEACHERS.

YEARS IN WHICH OVER 150,000,00 0 PEOPLE WERE SLAUGHTERED. GOD KEPT
HIS WORD ALIVE WITH HIS TWO WITNESSES, AND SOME OF THE MOST
COURAGEOUS PEOPLE TO EVER LIVE. WE WILL NOW GET INTO THE TWO
WITNESSES, WHO THEY WERE. WE CAN FIND THIS IN THE BIBLE.
JOHN 5:36- 37 “But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works
which the Father hath given me to finish , the same works that I do, bear
witness of me , that the Father hath sent me. And the Father himself, which
hath sent me, hath borne witness of me . Ye have neither heard his voice at any

NEVER ALOUD IN THE HANDS OF THE COMMON PEOPLE, AND VERY FEW
WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO READ IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. YOU SEE THE
CHURCH DID NOT SEE IT FIT FOR ANYONE TO INTERPRET THE SCRIPTURES
BUT THEM, SO THEY NEVER HAD IT TRANSLATED INTO THE LANGUAGE OF
THE PEOPLE SUCH AS FRENCH, ITALIAN, ENGLISH, SPANISH ETC. IN FACT
BIBLES WERE FORBIDDEN, AND FOR SOMEONE TO PREACH FROM IT THAT
WAS NOT ORDAINED BY THE PAPACY BROUGHT DEATH BY BURNING AT
THE STAKE. TORTURE USUALLY CAME FIRST (MOLTEN METAL DOWN THE
THROAT ETC.). BUT GOD ALWAYS HAS CHARGE OVER HIS WORD AND
WOULD NOT ALLOW HIS PEOPLE TO REMAIN IN IGNORANCE. THE OLD AND
NEW TESTAMENT WERE THE TWO WITNESSES, WE WILL NOW LEARN ABOUT
THERE JOURNEY.

“It was the ninth century, and superstitious beliefs and idolatrous rites
were overspreading the Church, when Claudius, Bishop of Turin, who was
deeply imbued with the spirit of Augustine, set himself to arrest the
growing corruption with all the fervour of a living faith, and the vigour of
a courageous and powerful intellect. To the battle for the purity of
doctrine he joined that for the independence of the Churches of
Lombardy. Even in Claude’s day they remained free, although many
Churches more remote from Rome had already been subjugate d by that
all- conquering power. The Ambrosian Liturgy was still used in the
cathedral of Milan, and the Augustinian doctrine continued to be preached
from many of the pulpits of Lombardy and Piedmont. This independe nce
of Rome, and this greater purity of faith and worship, these Churches
mainly owed to the three Apostolic men whose names adorn their annals—
Ambrose, Vigilantius, and Claude. When Claude went to his grave, about
the year 840, the battle, although not altogether dropped, was but
languidly maintained.” CONCLUSION FOLLOWS, TO EXPLAIN THE ENTIRE
ACCOUNT WOULD BE OUT OF THE SCOPE OF THIS PAPER. “Their greatest
enemies, Claude Seyssel of Turin (1517), and Reynerius the Inquisitor
(1250), have admitted their antiquity, and stigmatised them as "the most
dangerous of all heretics, because the most ancient."

“The throne of Savoy was at this time filled by Charles Emmanuel II., a
youth of fifteen. He was a prince of mild and huma ne disposition; but he
was counselled and ruled by his mother, the Duchess Christina, who had
been appointed regent of the kingdom during his minority. That mother
was sprung of a race which has ever been noted for its dissimulation, its
cruelty, and its bigoted devotion to Rome. She was the daughter of Henry
IV. and Mary de Medici, and grandda ughter of that Catherine de Medici
whose name stands so conspicuously connected with a tragedy which has
received, as it merited, the execration of mankind—the St. Bartholomew
Massacre.
THE WALDENSES DID MUCH TO TRY TO REACH A PEACEFUL AGREEMENT
WITH THE POPE, BUT IT WAS TO NO AVAIL. CONTINUING ON - - - - -
At last the blow fell with the sudden crash of the thunderbolt. At four
o’clock on the morning of Saturday, the 24th of April, 1655, the signal was

given from the castle - hill of La Torre. [So says Leger, who was an eye-
witness of these horrors]. But who shall rehearse the tragedy that
followed? "It is Cain a second time," says Monastier, "shedding the blood of
his brother Abel" [Monastier, p. 270]. On the instant a thousand assassins
began the work of death. Dismay, horror, agony, woe in a moment
overspread the Valleys of Lucerna and Angrogna. Though Pandemonium
had sent forth its fiends to riot in crime and revel in blood, they could not
have outdone the soldiers of the Propaganda. Though the victims climbed
the hills with what speed they could, the murderer was on their track. The
torrents as they rolled down from the heights soon began to be tinged
with blood. Gleams of lurid light burst out through the dark smoke that
was rolling through the vales, for a priest and monk accompanied each
party of soldiers, to set fire to the houses as soon as the inmates had been
dispatched. Alas! what sounds are those that repeatedly strike the ear?
The cries and groans of the dying were echoed and re- echoed from the
rocks around, and it seemed as if the mountains had taken up a wailing
for the slaughter of their children. "Our Valley of Lucerna," exclaims Leger,
"which was like a Goshen, was now converted into a Mount Etna, darting
forth cinders and fire and flames. The earth resembled a furnace, and the
air was filled with a darkness like that of Egypt, which might be felt, from
the smoke of towns, villages, temples, mansions, granges, and buildings,
all burning in the flames of the Vatican" [Leger, part ii., p. 113]. The
soldiers were not content with the quick dispatch of the sword, they
invented new and hitherto unhear d - of modes of torture and death. No
man at this day dare write in plain words all the disgusting and horrible
deeds of these men; their wickedness can never be all known, because it
never can be all told. From the awful narration of Leger, we select only a
few instances; but even these few, however mildly stated, grow, without
our intending it, into a group of horrors. Little children were torn from the
arms of their mothers, clasped by their tiny feet, and their heads dashed
against the rocks; or were held between two soldiers and their quivering
limbs torn up by main force. Their mangled bodies were then thrown on
the highways or fields, to be devoured by beasts. The sick and the aged
were burned alive in their dwellings. Some had their hands and arms and
legs lopped off, and fire applied to the severed parts to staunch the
bleeding and prolong their suffering. Some were flayed alive, some were
roasted alive, some disembowelled; or tied to trees in their own orchards,
and their hearts cut out. Some were horribly mutlitated, and of others the
brains were boiled and eaten by these cannibals. Some were fastened down
into the furrows of their own fields, and ploughed into the soil as men
plough manure into it. Others were buried alive. Fathers were marched to
death with the heads of their sons suspende d round their necks. Parents
were compelled to look on while their children were first outraged, then
massacred, before being themselves permitted to die. But here we must
stop. We cannot proceed farther in Leger’s awful narration. There come
vile, abominable, and monstro us deeds, utterly and overwhelmingly

disgusting, horrible and fiendish, which we dare not transcribe. The heart
sickens, and the brain begins to swim. "My hand trembles," says Leger, "so
that I scarce can hold the pen, and my tears mingle in torrents with my
ink, while I write the deeds of these children of darkness—blacker even
than the Prince of Darkness himself" [Leger, part ii., p. 111].

LEGER WAS IN FACT AN EYE WITNESS TO THESE EVENTS. THINGS LIKE THIS
WENT ON FOR THE ENTIRE 1260 YEAR PERIOD KNOWN AS THE DARK AGES
AND THE INQUISITION. PEOPLE WERE STARTING TO WAKE UP AND SEE
WHAT WAS HAPPENING. IF YOU WERE FOUND IN POSSESSION OF A BIBLE, OR
PREACHED FROM IT, OR EVEN SPOKE OF IT YOU WOULD BE BURNED AT THE
STAKE.IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE VAUDOIS (WALDENSES), JOHN WICKLIFFE,
JOHN HUSS AND JEROME (WHO WERE BOTH BURNED AT THE STAKE),
ZWINGLE, MARTIN LUTHER, JOHN CALVIN AND OTHER COUNTLESS
INDIVIDUALS WORKING TO BRING THE BIBLE TO THE PEOPLE WE WOULD
STILL BE IN THE DARK AGES. MAY GOD BLESS THE COUNTLESS PEOPLE THAT
SUFFERED FOR OUR SALVATION. ALTHOUGH NOT REMEMBERED BY MOST
PEOPLE TODAY IT WAS NOT IN VAIN. SO WHAT DO THE PROTESTANT
FATHERS SAY ABOUT THE PAPACY? LET’S FIND OUT, BECAUSE IT SEEMS
NOW MANY PROTESTANTS HAVE FORGOTTEN THE TRUTH WHICH CAME

infallibility, and declaring the other one to be the antichrist. John
Wickliffe who preached the gospel to the poor and was hated by the
papacy, in a tract which he published called the “Schism of the popes”

speaking the truth in conde m ning each other as the antichrist. “God”
said he “would no longer suffer the fiend to reign in only one such
priest, but made a division among two, so that men, in Christ’s name

CONCERNING THE MOST EXALTED TRINITY AND THE

CATHOLIC FAITH AND PROVIDING THAT NO ONE
SHALL DARE TO PUBLICLY OPPOSE THEM.

1. The Emperors Gratian, Valentinian, and Theodosius to the people of the

City of Constantinople.

We desire that all peoples subject to Our benign Empire shall live under
the same religion that the Divine Peter, the Apostle, gave to the Romans,
and which the said religion declares was introduced by himself, and which
it is well known that the Pontiff Damascus, and Peter, Bishop of
Alexandria, a man of apostolic sanctity, embraced; that is to say, in
accordance with the rules of apostolic discipline and the evangelical
doctrine, we should believe that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit constitute
a single Deity, endowed with equal majesty, and united in the Holy Trinity.

(1) We order all those who follow this law to assume the name of
Catholic Christians, and considering others as demented and insane, We
order that they shall bear the infamy of heresy; and when the Divine
vengeance which they merit has been appeased, they shall afterwards be
punished in accordance with Our resent men t, which we have acquired
from the judgment of Heaven.

2. The Same Emperors to Eutropius, Praetorian Prefect.

Let no place be afforded to heretics for the conduct of their ceremonies,

and let no occasion be offered for them to display the insanity of their
obstinate minds. Let all persons know that if any privilege has been
fraudulently obtained by means of any rescript whatsoever, by persons of
this kind, it will not be valid. Let all bodies of heretics be prevented from
holding unlawful assemblies, and let the name of the only and the greatest
God be celebrated everywhere, and let the observance of the Nicene Creed,
recently trans mitted to Our ancestors, and firmly established by the
testimony and practice of Divine Religion, always remain secure.

(1) Moreover, he who is an adherent of the Nicene Faith, and a true

believer in the Catholic religion, should be understood to be one [pg. 10]
who believes that Almighty God and Christ, the son of God, are one
person, God of God, Light of Light; and let no one, by rejection, dishonor
the Holy Spirit, whom we expect, and have received from the Supreme
Parent of all things, in whom the sentiment of a pure and undefiled faith
flourishes, as well as the belief in the undivided substance of a Holy
Trinity, which true believers indicate by the Greek word These
things, indeed do not require further proof, and should be respected.

(2) Let those who do not accept those doctrines cease to apply the name
of true religion to their fraudulent belief; and let them be branded with
their open crimes, and, having been removed from the threshhold of all
churches, be utterly excluded from them, as We forbid all heretics to hold
unlawful assemblies within cities. If, however, any seditious outbreak
should be attemp te d, We order them to be driven outside the the walls of
the City, with relentless violence, and We direct that all Catholic Churches,
throughou t the entire world, shall be placed under the control of the
orthod ox bishops who have embraced the Nicene Creed.

Consulate of Flavius Eucharius and Flavius Syagrius.

3. The Emperor Martian to Palladius, Praetorian Prefect.

No one, whether he belongs to the clergy, the army, or to any other

condition of men, shall, with a view to causing a tumult and giving
occasion to treachery, attem p t to discuss the Christian religion publicly in

the presence of an assembled and listening crowd; for he commits an

injury against the most reverend Synod who publicly contradicts what has
once been decided and properly established; as those matters relative to
the Christian faith have been settled by the priests who met at Chalcedony
by Our order, and are known to be in confor mity with the apostolic
explanations and conclusions of the three hundre d and eight Holy Fathers
assembled in Nicea, and the hundre d and fifty who met in this Imperial
City; for the violators of this law shall not go unpunishe d, because they
not only oppose the true faith, but they also profane its venerated
mysteries by engaging in contests of this kind with Jews and Pagans.
Therefore, if any person who has ventured to publicly discuss religious
matters is a member of the clergy, he shall be removed from his order; if
he is a member of the army, he shall be degraded; and any others who are
guilty of this offence, who are freemen, shall be banished from this most
Sacred City, and shall be subjected to the punishment prescribed by law
according to the power of the court; and if they are slaves, they shall
undergo severest penalty.

4. John, Bishop of the City of Rome, to his most Illustrious and Merciful
Son Justinian. Among the conspicuous reasons for praising your wisdom
and gentleness, Most Christian of Emperors, and one which radiates light
[pg. 11]as a star, is the fact that through love of the Faith, and actuated by
zeal for charity, you, learned in ecclesiastical discipline, have preserved
reverence for the See of Rome, and have subjected all things to its
authority, and have given it unity. The following precept was
communicated to its founder, that is to say, the first of the Apostles, by
the mouth of the Lord, namely: "Feed my lambs." This See is indeed the
head of all churches, as the rules of the Fathers and the decrees of the
Emperors assert, and the words of your most reverend piety testify. It is
therefore claimed that what the Scriptures state, namely, "By Me Kings
reign, and the Powers dispense justice;" will be accomplishe d in you. For
there is nothing which shines with a more brilliant lustre than genuine
faith when displayed by a prince, since there is nothing which prevents
destruction as true religion does, for as both of them have reference to the
Author of Life and Light, they disperse darkness and prevent apostasy.
Wherefore, Most Glorious of Princes, the Divine Power is implored by the
prayers of all to preserve your piety in this ardor for the Faith, in this
devotion of your mind, and in this zeal for true religion, without failure,
during your entire existence. For we believe that this is for the benefit of
the Holy Churches, as it was written, "The king rules with his lips," and
again, "The heart of the King is in the hand of God, and it will incline to

whatever side God wishes"; that is to say, that He may confirm your
empire, and maintain your kingdoms for the peace of the Church and the
unity of religion; guard their authority, and preserve him in that sublime
tranquillity which is so grateful to him; and no small change is granted by
the Divine Power through whose agency a divided church is not afflicted
by any griefs or subject to any reproaches. For it is written, "A just king,
who is upon his throne, has no reason to apprehen d any misfortune." We
have received with all due respect the evidences of your serenity, through
Hypatius and Demetrius, most holy men, my brothers and fellow - bishops,
from whose statement s we have learned that you have promulgated an
Edict addressed to your faithful people, and dictated by your love of the
Faith, for the purpose of overthrowing the designs of heretics, which is in
accordance with the evangelical tenets, and which we have confirmed by
our authority with the consent of our brethren and fellow bishops, for the
reason that it is in confor mity with the apostolic doctrine. The following

Chapter I.

Concerning Four Holy Councils.

Therefore We order that the sacred, ecclesiastical rules which were

adop ted and confirmed by the four Holy Councils, that is to say, that of
the three hundre d and eighteen bishops held at Nicea, that of the one
hundred and fifty bishops held at Constantinople, the first one of Ephesus,
where Nestorius was condemn ed, and the one assembled at Chalcedon,
where Eutyches and Nestorius were anathe ma tized, shall be considered as
laws. We accept the dogmas of these four Councils as sacred writings, and
observe their rules as legally effective.

Chapter II.

Concerning The Precedence of Partriarchs.

Hence, in accordance with the provisions of these Councils, We order

that the Most Holy Pope of ancient Rome shall hold the first rank of all the
Pontiffs, but the Most Blessed Archbishop of Constantinople, or New
Rome, shall occupy the second place after the Holy Apostolic See of
ancient Rome, which shall take precedence over all other sees.

"The Roman Republic, acknowledge d by the French Republic,
comprehends all the country that remained under the temporal authority
of the Pope, after the treaty of Campo - Formio.

ROMAN POPULACE CASTS OFF PAPAL YOKE.

—Bill No. 9, likewise of the same date (February 15, 1798), titled "Acte du
Pepule [peuple] Souverain" (An Act of the Sovereign People) —certified and
signed by three notaries, and confirmed by General Berthier—makes this
clear- cut declaration:

The people of Rome, long tired of the monstrous despotism under which they
groaned have on various occasions tried to shake off this yoke. The magic of
public opinion and political interests combined into a mighty force have not
allowed their efforts to succeed. And a despotism of that nature become s the
more insulting the more its weaknes s and arrogance corresponds to its
misery. But at last, the people, fearing to be exposed to an hideous anarchy
and in despair to fall under even a worse tyranny have mustered all their
courage in order to evade these sinister consequenc e s and to reclaim the
primitive rights of their sovereignty. Assembled in the presence of the Eternal
and the whole universe, they solemnly and unanimously declare to have had
no part whatever in the crimes and assassinations committed by the
government against the French Republic and her nation. They disapprove of
these crimes and detest their originators and invoke upon them (vow them)
eternal shame. They further have suppresse d, abolished and crushed the
political, economic, and civil authorities of the former Roman government and
have constituted thems elve s a free and independent sovereignty in taking up
all executive and legislative powers which its legitimate representative s shall
exercise according to the immortal rights of man based on the principles of
truth, justice, liberty, and equality. They have declared that their desire is that
no attack against religion or the spiritual authority of the pope should be
made and that they reserve to themselv e s the right by their representatives to
provide for the comfortable sustenance [of the Pope] and to ensure the safety
of his person by a national guard . "The present act has been signed by several
thousand persons who, with many others, have read, approved and confirmed
it by their acclamations on the Capitol. On the 27. Pluviose in the 6. year of the
Republic."

Newspapers at the time even proclaimed the "wound" to the Vatican as
"healed". Here on the left is an article from the February 12th, 1929 edition of
the San Francisco Chronicle .

PAPACY STILL RULED EUROPE, AND MANY WERE LOOKING FOR A WAY TO

WAY TO ESCAPE PERSECUTION WAS TO FLEE THE COUNTRY. ONE OF THE
MAIN CONCERNS OF OUR FOUNDING FOREFATHERS HAD WAS ONE TO
ESCAPE THE HOLD ENGLAND HAD OVER THEM, FOR ENGLAND ROYALTY
WAS AGAIN TAKING DIRECTION FROM THE POPE. THE SECOND CONCERN
THEY HAD WAS TO ENSURE THE PEOPLE OF THE NEWFOUND AMERICA

George Somers, and others, for establishing colonies in Virginia, a year
before the Jamestown settlement was founded, King James I made clear
the religious importance of such a colonizing effort. The opportu nity to
bring the Christian religion, and thereby "civility," to the native inhabitants
was considered especially valuable.] We greatly commen ding, and
graciously accepting of, their desires for the furtherance of so noble a
work, which may, by the providence of Almighty God, hereafter tend to

OTHER GUIDELINES, WHICH, IF WEREN’T FOLLOWED PUNISHMENT WAS
ENACTED, FIRST BY FINES, THEN BY LAND SEIZURES, FULL
EXCOMMUNICATION, IN WHICH IMPRISONMENT FOLLOWED, MANY UPON
EXCOMMUNICATION WERE DECLARED HERETICS AND SENTENCED TO
DEATH. WHAT WAS HAPPENING WAS THE SAME THING THAT WAS
CURRENTLY GOING ON IN EUROPE. RELIGEOUS VIEWS FORCED UPON THE
MASSES.

“August 4, 1619 All ministers shall duly read divine service, and exercise

censure of the Governor and Counsel of Estate.”

IN 1636, ANNE HUTCHINSON, A MOTHER OF FOURTEEN CHILDREN WAS

BROUGHT TO TRIAL FOR PREACHING THE HOLY BIBLE, HER CHARGE WAS
HERESY. SHE HAD BEEN TEACHING BIBLE CLASSES IN HER HOME, WHICH, 1)
A WOMAN WAS NOT TO RELIGEOUSLY INSTRUCT ANYONE, AND 2) PEOPLE
WERE NOT TO HOLD COMMUNION OUT OF THEIR HOUSE.
Anne Hutchinson's "As I do unders tan d it, laws, command s, rules and
edicts are for those who have not the light which makes plain the pathway.
He who has God's grace in his heart cannot go astray."

[The General Court, highest in authority in Massachusetts Bay Colony,

consisted of the Governor as Chair of the Court, the Deputy Governor, 5
assistants, and 5 deputies. Several other ministers were in attendance
including Rev. John Cotton, Mrs. Hutchinson's minister, and the person who
inspired her basic theological position. Anne Hutchinson appears as the
accused in this trial].

Mr. [John] Winthrop, Governor: Mrs. Hutchinson, you are called here as one of
those that have troubled the peace of the commonw ealth and the churches
here; you are known to be a woman that hath had a great share in the
promoting and divulging of those opinions that are the cause of this trouble,
and to be nearly joined not only in affinity and affection with some of those
the court had taken notice of and passed censure upon, but you have spoken
divers things, as we have been informed, very prejudicial to the honor of the
churches and ministers thereof, and you have maintained a meeting and an
assembly in your house that hath been condemned by the general assembly as
a thing not tolerable nor comely in the sight of God nor fitting for your sex,
and notwithstanding that was cried down you have continued the same.
Therefore we have thought good to send for you to understand how things
are, that if you be in an erroneous way we may reduce you that so you may
become a

profitable member here among us. Otherwise if you be obstinate in your

course that then the court may take such course that you may trouble us no
further. Therefore I would intreat you to express whether you do assent and
hold in practice to those opinions and factions that have been handled in court
already, that is to say, whether you do not justify Mr. Wheelwright's sermon
and the petition. Mrs. Hutchinson:
I am called here to answer before you but I hear no things laid to my charge.
Gov.: I have told you some already and more I can tell you.
Mrs. H.: Name one, Sir.
Gov.: Have I not named some already?

Mrs. H.: What have I said or done?

Gov.: Why for your doings, this you did harbor and countenance those that are
parties in this faction that you have heard of.
Mrs. H.: That's matter of conscienc e, Sir.
Gov.: Your conscience you must keep, or it must be kept for you.
Mrs. H.: Must not I then entertain the saints because I must keep my
conscience. Gov.: Say that one brother should commit felony
or treason and come to his brother's house, if he knows him guilty and
conceals him he is guilty of the same. It is his conscienc e to entertain him, but
if his conscienc e comes into act in giving countenance and entertainment to
him that hath broken the law he is guilty too. So if you do countenanc e those
that are transgress ors of the law you are in the same fact.
Mrs. H.: What law do they transgress?
Gov.: The law of God and of the state.
Mrs. H.: In what particular?
Gov.: Why in this among the rest, whereas the Lord doth say honour thy father
and thy mother.
Mrs. H.: Ey Sir in the Lord.
Gov.: This honour you have broke in giving countenance to them.
Mrs. H.: In entertaining those did I entertain them against any act (for there is
the thing) or what God has appointed?
Gov.: You knew that Mr. Wheelwright did preach this sermon and those that
countenance him in this do break a law.
Mrs. H.: What law have I broken?
Gov.: Why the fifth commandment.
Mrs. H.: I deny that for he [Mr. Wheelwright] saith in the Lord.
Gov.: You have joined with them in the faction.
Mrs. H.: In what faction have I joined with them?
Gov.: In presenting the petition.
Mrs. H.: Suppose I had set my hand to the petition. What then?
Gov.: You saw that case tried before.
Mrs. H.: But I had not my hand to [not signed] the petition.
Gov.: You have councelled them.
Mrs. H.: Wherein?
Gov.: Why in entertaining them.
Mrs. H.: What breach of law is that, Sir?
Gov.: Why dishonouring the commonwealth.
Mrs. H.: But put the case, Sir, that I do fear the Lord and my parents. May not I
entertain them that fear the Lord because my parents will not give me leave?
Gov.: If they be the fathers of the commonw ealth, and they of another religion,
if you entertain them then you dishonour your parents and are justly
punishable. Mrs. H.: If I entertain them, as they
have dishonoured their parents I do. Gov.: No but you
by countenancing them above others put honor upon them.
Mrs. H.: I may put honor upon them as the children of God and as they do
honor the Lord. Gov.: We do not mean to discourse with those of your sex but
only this: you so adhere unto them and do endeavor to set forward this faction
and so you do dishonour us. Mrs. H.: I do ackno wledge no
such thing. Neither do I think that I ever put any dishonour upon you.
Gov.: Why do you keep such a meeting at your house as you do every week

upon a set day? Mrs. H.: It is lawful for me to do so, as it is all your practices,
and can you find a warrant for yourself and condemn me for the same thing?
The ground of my taking it up was, when I first came to this land becaus e I did
not go to such meetings as those were, it was

presently reported that I did not allow of such meetings but held them
unlawful and therefore in that regard they said I was proud and did despise all
ordinances. Upon that a friend came unto me and told me of it and I to prevent
such aspersions took it up, but it was in practice before I came. Therefore I
was not the first. Gov.: ...By what
warrant do you continue such a course?
Mrs. H.: I conceive there lies a clear rule in Titus that the elder women should
instruct the younger and then I must have a time wherein I must do it.
Gov.: All this I grant you, I grant you a time for it, but what is this to the
purpose that you Mrs. Hutchinson must call a company together from their
callings to come to be taught of you?...
Mrs. H.: If you look upon the rule in Titus it is a rule to me. If you convince me
that it is no rule I shall yield.
Gov.: You know that there is no rule that crosses another, but this rule crosses
that in the Corinthians. But you must take it in this sense that elder women
must instruct the younger about their busines s and to love their husbands and
not to make them to clash.... Mrs. H.: Will it please you to
answer me this and to give me a rule for then I will willingly submit to any
truth. If any come to my house to be instructed in the ways of God what rule
have I to put them away? Do you think it not lawful for me to teach women
and why do you call me to teach the court?
Gov.: We do not call you to teach the court but to lay open yourself....

[They continue to argue over what rule she had broken]

[The trial text here reads:] All the court but some two or three ministers cry
out, we all believe it- - we all believe it. [Mrs. Hutchinson was found guilty]
Gov.: The court hath already declared themselv e s satisfied concerning the
things you hear, and concerning the troubleso me ne s s of her spirit and the
danger of her course amongst us, which is not to be suffered. Therefore if it be
the mind of the court that Mrs. Hutchinson for these things that appear before
us is unfit for our society, and if it be the mind of the court that she shall be
banished out of our liberties and imprisoned till she be sent away, let them
hold up their hands.

[All but three did so]

Gov.: Mrs. Hutchinson, the sentence of the court you hear is that you are
banished from out of our jurisdiction as being a woman not fit for our society,

and are to be imprisoned till the court shall send you away.
Mrs. H.: I desire to know wherefore I am banished?
Gov.: Say no more. The court knows wherefore and is satisfied.

THAT ARE STRIVING FOR RE- ENFORCEMENT THROUGHOUT THE UNITED
STATES.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or

prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of
the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the
government for a redress of grievances .

OF GOD IS IN KEEPING HIS SABBATH, THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT IS THE
SEAL OF GOD. SO WHAT THEN IN TURN IS THE MARK OF THE BEAST WELL
WE IDENTIFIED THE BEAST ALREADY AS THE PAPACY, WHO NOT ONLY
BOASTS ABOUT BEING ABLE TO CHANGE GODS DIVINE LAW BUT CLAIMS TO
BE GOD ON EARTH. SHE HAS LONG CLAIMED THAT HER MARK OF
AUTHORITY IS THAT SHE SUCCESSFULLY CHANGED THE SABBATH DAY IN
