their eyes. Adults can too for that
matter, but it might not seem as
neat.
If there’s one thing I can say
about Kelly and Dashelle, it’s they
know how to treat a Business
Pulse writer. They loaded me up
with all kinds of sweets, which
were absolutely delicious. For the
record, the death by chocolate cup-
cake and honeybun cake were my
favorites.
Scott and Lisa Barber still own
the building, which has been
vacant since they moved to
Canada nearly a year ago. The
couple has reportedly turned
down other offers, but decided to
lease the building to Kelly and
Dashelle.
“I guess we called at just the
right time because when we asked
he said he’d rent it,” said Dashelle.
With her husband, Dr. Jeff
McVey, in the process of moving
Pioneer Pediatrics to Main Street,
Dashelle is taking it on her on
shoulders to rejuvenate down-
town. “Living here my whole life,
it’s sad to see all the buildings
boarded up and I’d like to help
change that,” said Dashelle.

Unemployment falls to 9 percent, nearly two-year low
WASHINGTON (AP) — The
unemployment rate is sinking at
the fastest pace in half a century
because a surprisingly large num-
ber of people say they’re finding
work.
It conflicts with a business pay-
roll survey last month that showed
relatively weak job growth. But
that survey doesn’t count the self-
employed and likely undercounts
the nation’s smallest businesses.

Indoor inflatable
park is open
Here’s an idea I think will be a
great fit for McMinnville. It’s an
indoor inflatable park called Air
Up that gives kids a chance to
jump on all types of bouncy things.
It’s operated by Mark Lytle and
is operating as a division under
Handy Rental. You can reserve the
inflatable park for a private birth-
day party, or you can stop in dur-
ing a regular play day and pay $5
for your kids to bounce around for
a couple hours.
“We’ll work with customers to
do any type of party they would
like,” said Mark, who indicated a

Mark says the Wednesday play
time is perfect for any school or
daycare which might want to take
a field trip to his facility.
Birthday parties can be arranged
for 15 people and below or 25 peo-
ple and below. A cotton candy
machine and popcorn machine
can also be rented to add more
excitement to your party.
The current setup has room for
four inflatables in addition to some
other games. Mark says the goal is
to move into a larger facility if the
community supports him.
“If this takes off like I think it
will, I’ll probably be looking at
moving in a year or two,” said
Mark. “This is an inexpensive way
to get started to see if it will work.”
As a father of two boys who
both have winter birthdays, I think
Air Up is a great idea. Up until
now, it’s pretty much been the
skating rink or bowling alley, but

includes more people who work at
small companies.

There’s a new
café in Midway
Barbara Dunlap has spent much
of her life preparing home-cooked
meals for her family. Now she’s
looking to share her great-tasting
recipes with the rest of the com-
munity as she’s opened Midway
Country Café across from the
Midway ballfield in the spot that
was formerly Grubby’s
Restaurant.
“I’ve had a beauty shop for 27
year and I’ve worked out of my
home,” said Barbara. “I’m bring-
ing my experience of working
from home and I’m bringing that
family atmosphere to this restau-
rant. The way I look at it, I’ve just
brought my kitchen here.”
And she’s brought a dining
room capable of seating 84 too.
Barbara owns the business with
her husband, Elton, who milked
cows for 30 years before he sold
out in 2001.
“This is what I would want my
own kids to eat,” said Barbara. “I
don’t want them to eat a bunch of
fried foods. I’d want them to eat
meats and vegetables, and that’s
