Course Overview and Objectives: EN 1113 is designed to enhance and strengthen argumentative, analytical, and research
skills. To achieve this, you must write well-organized, thought-provoking, coherent essays based upon in-class readings and
discussions. These essays require the use of research materials, documentation of all sources according to MLA format, the
examination of ideas and values in literary works, a demonstrated understanding of literary elements, and few to no
grammatical errors.
Course Work: You will write 6 (including the final) original compositions. Each composition (with the exception of the
analysis and the final) will be written in two drafts—the first draft will be evaluated by peers, and the final draft will be
evaluated by the instructor. If you fail to attend the peer evaluation session or fail to have a completed draft to be
evaluated, you will be penalized one letter grade on the final version.
