configurations and rules are up to date.
Documentation compilation, updating and maintenance of all servers and devices in the environment.
Also responsible for investigating issues which stumped the rest of the team and almost always found a solution.
Accomplishments
Upgraded internal network equipment, reconfigured and segmented network into different sections to cut down on
broadcast traffic, which considerably sped up responsiveness of application and database services and improved staff
efficacy and efficiency.
Prioritized routing of special traffic to client networks and servers using cisco ios features dramatically enhancing staff
experience and efficiency.
Setup Linux Proxy and system monitoring alternatives to legacy Microsoft solutions, including alerts and redundancy.
Provisioned newly acquired office space with cabling to accommodate 60+ new staff and future growth.
Responsible for configuring of VPN access to Client Networks and security thereof, as well as configuring and
maintaining VPN services for staff to connect into the internal network and security thereof.
Implementation of Virtualization platforms and conversion of project environments from physical to virtual, as well as

Matthew was then promoted to Network/Systems Administrator, and was individually responsible for managing multiple
networks, including the internal operations network which consisted of 80 staff and 30 servers and a production datacentre
network which hosted +-300 servers, both linux and windows. Initially all routing and networking was done by redundant Cisco
Switches and Routers. The routers were later replaced by Linux routers because they could handle greater loads and were more
cost effective than enterprise Cisco routers.
Responsibilities
Organising venue, food, security, event listing on website including details such as competitions, prizes, activities and
attendees.
Setup of venue with network, electricity, tables for 300+ computers.
Troubleshooting any customer Network or PC problems for the duration of the weekend. (kept me very busy)
Organising gaming tournaments, communicating with players and teams to ensure competitions run smoothly and
finish on time.
Ensure everyone had a good time, dealt with complaints and dealt with any disputes among attendees.

Accomplishments
Responsible for hosting the largest LAN party in Cape Town from 2004 – 2006 with around 320 attendees.
Hosted 4-6 tournaments each event and gave away cash prizes.
Hosted a total of 39 events over the period of 4 years.
Had a huge amount of Fun and made lots of friends and a great feeling of accomplishment after each event.
The event was organised with very little help. Matthew and his brother Richard were the primary individuals
responsible. Richards focus was the website and Matthew’s focus was the Event.
I sold the business when I started working at Open Box Software in order to focus on professional career.
