Who should attend
The Certification would be for practitioners, trainers and HR specialists wanting to develop expertise in assessment centre
assessing. Ideally they would have some work experience already, not necessarily in selection.
Certification overview
This Certification will give an in-depth knowledge and execution of assessment centers and the skills of being an assessor. The
Certification will include an overview of research on selection methods, focusing particularly on assessment centers, certification in
profiling tools, as well as an online EPIC account to use profiling tools.
The approach is to blend research findings / theory with practice. The research on selection and assessment will be provided, and
delegates will be asked about their own understanding and experience of selection methods, and particularly assessment centers.
The research and discussions will look at why organizations use assessment centers and when it is most appropriate to run
assessment centers.
The link between assessment centers, job roles, profiling and competencies or behavioral indicators will be explored. The different
ways to design assessment centers will be looked at. The group will be given design and conduct real life assessment center and
will try assessing using recorded material. The delegates will be observed by the facilitator, and given some feedback on their
assessing skills. They will look at the wash-up session. They will critically review the way behavior is measured in assessment
centers in order to understand how they might design centers to minimize bias and judgment errors.
To give delegates an up to date understanding of how assessment centers compare with different selection methods and
where assessment centers are placed in relation to validity and reliability.
To give an in-depth understanding of two very different assessment centre design approaches and how they use
behavioral indicators or competencies and consider how to design high quality assessment centers.
To explain to delegates the bias that can influence selection decisions and to encourage delegates to minimize such bias
in their decisions.
To give delegates the opportunity to try a widely accepted approach to assessing for selection and receive feedback on
their assessing skills.
Learn about good practice in wash-up discussions and assessment centre design.

Learn about up to date research on assessment centers as a method of selection.
Learn about bias in selection and raise self-awareness of your own biases.
Learn about good practice in wash-up sessions.
Critically review and consider how design.
The theory underlying the use of assessment centers is based on early selection methods used in the military to collect reliable
evidence of how people would perform in the workplace. Later research reviewed and compared the main selection methods
including assessment centers. This research demonstrates that assessment centers are useful in providing valid and reliable
information for selection decisions. The psychological theory of bias in how we perceive others is drawn from social psychology,
but is important to minimize selection errors. All these aspects of psychological theory will underpin the Certification.
