The film is also the story of Priti (Soha
Ali Khan) and Vishal (Karan Nath). She
is a small time model fighting the good
fight and he the typical cocaine snorting
big dream loser on the invariable and
inexorable spiral into crime. Intertwined
in the lives of these characters are Chutta
(Vijay Maurya), a drug dealer who wants
to corporatize the trade, his eunuch
sugar momma Begum (Saurabh Shukla)
and a mysterious billionaire who gets drawn into their lives.
No other filmmaker in India has explored the psyche of people caught in diverse
circumstances with as much consistency as Sudhir Mishra. His films have for long
portrayed the changing nature of society and its relationships and ‘Tera Kya Hoga

GAME Johny’ is no exception.

with twists and turns and all the elements
that go into the making of such a film.
This whodunit tale tells the story of four

are invited by the reclusive Kabir Malhotra (Anupam Kher) to his private island
of Samos, in Greece. They are new to each other and new to him and by the next
morning will be all regretful of their decision to come. The story keeps everyone
guessing about the main suspect, even as everyone seems like a suspect.
What happens in a cat and mouse game... when the cat dies? GAME is a whodunit
with twists and turns through revenge, retribution, prostitution, drug empires and
good old-fashioned murder.
Spanning five international cities, this crime thriller sees a new twist to it every
10-odd minutes thus propelling the story in an entirely unforeseen direction. The
solution of the crime is a satisfying experience... where the audience has been shown
all the facts...but will they get there before the end?
Game, which is said to be loosely based on the Hollywood thriller, ‘The Italian
Job’, stars an ensemble cast featuring Abhishek Bachchan, Kangna Ranaut, Jimmy
Sheirgill, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Gauhar Khan, and Shahana Goswami and
introduces former Miss India Sarah Jane Dias. A co-production of Farhan Akhtar and
Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment, the film was earlier titled,
‘Crooked’ but the producers later rounded it off to ‘Game’ after much deliberation.
This big-budgeted action thriller has been shot across the exotic locales of Greece,

Istanbul, London, Bangkok and India. Reportedly Abhishek Bachchan is said to
be counting on this film to consolidate his position at the box-office after the grim
response to his last release, ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se’.
The film has been directed by Abhinay Deo with Farhan Akhtar penning the
dialogues. Bollywood’s most successful trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has scored the
music to the lyrical lines penned by Javed Akhtar.

rom ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’
to ‘Patiala House’, how
much have you grown as
an actress?
I would say that I have changed a lot
from the time I made my debut in ‘Rab
Ne Bana Di Jodi’. To start with, I am
far more confident as an actor today. I
have also begun to understand the basic
nuances of filmmaking. I was a total
novice when I shot for my first film.
COVER STORY Shah Rukh and Aditya Chopra helped
me with the markings and gave me clues
from time to time. Now I know when to
start and how to go about my dialogue-
delivery. I have also learnt how to focus
on my lines and react to my character.
The success of ‘Band Baaja Baarat’ has
also given me a certain comfort level. I
am now being perceived as a bankable
actor in the industry.
What is ‘Patiala House’ all about?
Patiala House is a big house based in
Southall. It is the story of a father and
son against the backdrop of racial riots
based in London. It is about the social
scene that was prevalent at one point in
England and the repercussions it had
on society thereafter. I play the role of
the nosy neighbour Simran, who takes
a fancy to Akshay Kumar and motivates
him to realise his dreams.
How was the experience working
with Akshay Kumar?
Akshay is a thorough professional and
it was inspiring to work with him. He’s
extremely punctual about his timings,

Was it difficult working with
A-listers like Shah Rukh, Shahid
and now Akshay, in the initial
stages of your career?
It was no doubt a bit difficult initially
considering that I am not a trained actor.
All the co-stars I have worked with so far
are trained actors with their own distinct
style. Shah Rukh and Shahid are both
methodical in their style of working. My
co-star in ‘Band Bajaa Baraat’, Ranvir

Singh is also a trained actor. On the other
hand Akshay has his own distinct style of
acting, with his vast experience. Since I
am not trained, I had no fixed perception
about how I wanted to go about my role in
each film. Of course, I did not allow it to
deter me from attempting the character
the way I wanted it to. Now I am far
more spontaneous in my interpretation
of a role.
Just three films old now and you
have already been linked to your
co-stars- first to Shahid Kapur
and now Ranveer Singh. Have you
become cautious?
I have learnt to ignore all the
rumours. It used to affect me earlier
when I was new to the industry but now
I have realized that there is no point in
reacting. I have no further comments to
make on this.
How do your parents take the
news, since you are not from the
film fraternity?
I discuss everything with my parents
so I have nothing to be worried about.
They too are well aware about the way
the industry functions. Moreover, they
trust me a lot. I am not going to stop
living my life just because some wild
rumours originate day in and out in the
media.
Knowing that you hail from a
conservative background, how did
you parents react to your bikini act
and kissing scenes

long way to go.

here’s a nip in the air and it’s
the time of the year when you
can just see love and red roses
around you. Young couples
are going that extra special way to
express their love to their loved ones
as Valentines’ Day gets closer each day.
Bollywood is not lagging far behind.
There are affairs that are spoken about
and affairs that are openly flaunted yet
they all prefer to shy away from speaking
about their love tales in public view.
We take a look at the latest Bollywood
couples in the industry.
Ranbir-Katrina
They are the youngest and hottest
couple in the news for their speculative
relationship. The two seem to have
clearly moved on from their ex-flames
(Ranbir -Deepika and Katrina-Salman)
and are no longer looking back. The
two reportedly started seeing each
other during the shooting of ‘Rajneeti’,
when love blossomed and they realized
that they were more than friends. They
are said to have continued their secret
liaison during the making of ‘Ajab Prem
Ki Ghazab Kahani’. The two have been
spotted together meeting clandestinely
but they continue to deny that there is
anything between them. “We are the
best of friends” is their common reply
but their secret meetings are no longer
a secret as they go about painting the
town red in Ranbir’s latest acquired
Audi. Katrina says “I am comfortable
with him as we belong to the same age-
group.” We wouldn’t know how long
their relationship will last but we do
know that they make a great couple. The
latest rumours doing the rounds are that
whenever Ranbir signs a film, he asks
the directors to sign Katrina in the lead
opposite him.
Shahid- Priyanka
Theirs is the most talked-about
relationship in the industry at the
moment. Like Ranbir and Katrina,
these two have also moved on from their
previous relationships. While Priyanka
has moved on from Harman Baweja,
Kareena is one forgotten memory for
Shahid. The two first met on the sets of
‘Kaminey’ which they did together for
the first time and ever since they have
not taken their eyes off each other. Their
on-off relationship continued to do the
rounds until they ended up openly
confessing their preference for each
other on the ‘Koffee With Karan’ show.
Their under-cover relationship was
sealed at the end of last year when Shahid
flew down on December 30 from to Goa
from Chandigarh, where he was shooting
for ‘Mausam’ to celebrate the New Year
with Priyanka. Priyanka was in Goa with
her parents at that time. Soon after
stories started doing the rounds that
the two had had a secret engagement
ceremony. However, Priyanka flatly
issued a denial soon after.
More recently, the couple was seen
together at Priyanka’s residence when

the income tax sleuths came in for a
raid. Quiz Priyanka about it and she says
that “since my mother was not there
and I needed help I asked Shahid to
come down as he lives just two minutes
away from my house.” Today it is public
knowledge that Shahid and Priyanka are
a couple. Buzz is that the couple is also
looking forward to working together and
insists on having each other as co-stars.
Like Ranbir and Katrina, they just spruce
up by saying “We are just friends.” Ask
Priyanka about whom she would love
to spend Valentine’s Day with and she
smartly replies, “For me every day is a
Valentine, as I am in love with life and
the world around me.”
Saif-Kareena
They are known as the power house
couple of Bollywood and are fondly
called as ‘Saifeena’. Their love story could
best be described as a fairytale romance.
While Saif is a divorcee with two grown-
up kids, Kareena has moved on from her
past relationship with Shahid Kapur.
Their clandestine love story began on
the sets of ‘Tashan’ when the two were
drawn to each other. By the time the film
ended, the two were already professing
their love for each other, making it clear
that it was no longer mere attraction.
What made their relationship very
different was the fact that they were
honest about it from day one. It has
been four years ever since and the two
have managed to keep the fire burning
despite their busy schedules. They
manage to do endorsements and movies
together so that they can spend quality
time together. Sources say that when the
two are not together, they keep in touch
by writing letters to each other. What’s
more their love letters are exchanged
even if they happen to be in the same
town.
Right from the time they have
fallen in love, Saif loves to pamper his
lady-love. He picks her up and drops
her at places and visits her on her sets
whenever possible. He even offers his
opinion on her work, like he did for
‘Golmaal Returns’. On the other hand,
Kareena is also said to be crazy about
Saifu. Some time back, she dashed off
to Delhi where Saif was shooting for his
home production and also fasted for him
on Karva Chauth. Besides, she is said to
be the only privileged one, amongst all
other Saif’s girlfriends who happened
to visit his native place Pataudi with his
parents.
This is clearly one romance that
refuses to fade. The Nawab of Pataudi
and the blue eyed Kapoor girl leave no
stone unturned to express their undying
love.

round, says Katrina Kaif
L

Kaif’s spirits. The actress who
was recently seen at Pritish Nandy’s
book launch was asked about her
definition of love and she happily
said “”I believe in magical qualities
of love but on the other side of love is
disillusionment and disappointment.”
While there have been speculations
about her relationships with Salman
and co-star Ranbir Kapoor, the actress
was frank and forthright about her
feelings on love. Reading passages
from the book the actress said, “Love
still makes the world go round and I
am happy irrespective of the space and
time I am in. I do not believe this side
of love. I choose to be optimistic in
love. I believe in happy endings.”
While she was being barraged with
questions about the raids, Katrina
remained elusive but calmly replied
that she would rather speak about
love and the lovely poems written by
Nandy. “I am afraid I have not been
an avid reader since the last few years”
she confessed. “Pritish Sir had come
to me to discuss about something else
and we ended discussing this book of
poetry. The subject on love interested
me hugely. I understand the power of
poetry. It’s so beautiful and expressive.
There are things in the book that you
do relate to especially the sentiments
of his poems and you end up realising
that you are not alone in this world.
There’s so much love around you,” she
revealed.
However she added that till date no
one had been inspired to write or read
a poem for her. “If someone does write
or read a poem for me, I think it would
be very romantic” she said making it
a point to add, “I think the apt person
who could pen a few couplets for me
would be Gulzar saab.
Lastly when asked whom she would
love to gift the book of poems to, the
actress cheerfully concluded “There
isn’t a single person, but I would like
to give a book of love poems to all the
unmarried men in Bollywood.”

T
here was a time when it
almost seemed that you
had quit acting after a brief
stint in films. What made
you come back to films?
I started with Sudhir Mishra’s 2003
film, ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’.
However after my first film, I wasn’t sure
whether I was cut out for this profession.
Then, Sudhir Mishra approached me
for his next film, ‘Aur Devdas’ but
unfortunately the project did not take
off. I then decided to go for a four-year
long break but things suddenly started
falling in place. That’s when I made up
my mind that I indeed wanted to pursue
a career in acting. I am now doing Sudhir
Mishra’s next titled ‘Dhruv’ with Kareena
and Farhan.
You had mentioned in an earlier
interview that you never intended
to take up acting at one point of
time.
That’s true. I wasn’t planning to
become an actress at all, I wanted to
become an air hostess but I was rejected.
I once missed my flight to Korea to be with
my husband for his golf tournament and
instead went for an audition. I was short
listed and bagged Sudhir Mishra’s film.
Life throws up surprises all the time.
Has Mumbai become your second
home now?
Yes, this is my workplace and Delhi
is my home. When I am in Mumbai I
am totally preoccupied

The film is a thriller with subtle humour
and my character is one of a typical
middle-class girl. Since I get kidnapped in

the film, I had to look scared and tensed
in almost all scenes. I wouldn’t say that
the character was a challenge but I made
sure that I was not being repetitive in the
two parallel tracks in the film. Besides this
being my fourth film as an actress, I am
now fairly well-versed with the process of
filmmaking. I have improved a lot in my
acting abilities.
What do you have to say about
the reports of turmoil in your
relationship with your husband?
Do you feel envious when girls try
to woo him?
There’s no such problem. My husband
is a professional golfer and very modern
in thinking. I strike a balance between
my personal and professional like. Yes,
my earlier films had some steamy scenes
and a lot of things were written about
in the media. Probably, that resulted in
a few misgivings but we talked it over.

recently spoke on National’s
commitment to the people about
taking action against crime and delivering
justice. Here’s what he had to say:
“You deserve to feel safe in your
homes and your communities. You
shouldn’t have to worry about being
a victim of crime. But if a crime is
committed against you, you deserve a
justice system that delivers timely justice
and sends the clear message that crime
is not acceptable.
That’s one of the reasons National was
voted into government. We promised to
take action on violent crime, and we’re
delivering on that promise.
“We’ve declared war on gangs and P.
National has given the police new powers
to intercept gang communications,
dismantle drug fortifications, and seize
the proceeds of crime. These new powers
are working. Police and customs officers
made 2010 an awful year for P dealers.
Last year a record 30.4 kilograms of
methamphetamine, or P, was seized by
Police and Customs. This was an increase
of 46 per cent over 2009 when 20.8kg
was seized. The seized drugs have an
estimated street value of $30 million.
“These seizures show police and
customs have done an outstanding job.
Their good work in reducing the amount
of P on the streets weakens the criminal
gangs that sell the drug. It also reduces
crime in the community, making our
neighbourhoods safer for hard-working

“We want to see timely justice
delivered for victims, witnesses,
defendants, and the community. The
current system is clogged and needs
fixing. National introduced the Criminal
Procedure (Reform and Modernisation)
bill introduced late last year. It contains
long overdue improvements to simplify
and speed up our justice system.
“We’re delivering on our promise
to take action on violent crime. We’re
clamping down on gangs and P,
confronting alcohol problems, and
improving the justice system. These
initiatives are helping make our
neighbourhoods safer for families
and building a brighter future for our
communities.”

“I
hope you all had a relaxing
summer break with your
friends and families. It’s been
a busy start to the year for the National-
led Government. In my annual state of
the nation speech I outlined National’s
plan to build stronger, enduring
economic growth, deliver better paid
jobs, and put the Government’s finances
in a stronger position New Zealand
needs to save more, spend less, and
reduce our reliance on foreign debt.
That’s the only way we can deliver the
jobs, higher incomes, and better living
standards that our Indian families
aspire to.
“National has made good progress
on our comprehensive economic plan
already, and in my speech I announced
our next steps. The Government will
run a tighter budget this year, trimming
new spending to around $800 million
to $900 million. This will set us on
a path to a meaningful surplus in
2014/15, a year earlier than forecast.
“We are also looking at the mix of
assets we own. The Government, on
behalf of taxpayers, owns about $220
billion worth of assets. Over the next
five years we will buy about $33 billion
worth of new assets. This includes
vital assets such as schools, ultra-fast

uckland Council’s HazMobile
team is about to start its annual
collections in the community,
providing an easy and free opportunity
for people to dispose of their hazardous
household waste.
Kicking-off this year with a
collection on Saturday in Three Kings,
the free drive-through service is used
by thousands of residents annually to
dispose responsibly of their hazardous
waste, including household and garden
chemicals, batteries and gas cylinders.
Auckland Council Solid Waste
Business Unit Manager Jon Roscoe says
the HazMobile team will do 14 collections
this year, moving between nine locations
across the region, providing an easy and
convenient solution for people who want
to ensure their hazardous household
material is disposed of appropriately and
recycled if possible.
“All people need to do is box up their
hazardous household waste, load it into
their vehicle or trailer and drive to one
of the allocated HazMobile sites on its
collection date. There the experienced
and trained HazMobile crew will unload
people’s waste while they wait,” he says.
According to Roscoe, last year more
than 8000 people utilised the HazMobile
service and approximately 245,000kg of
hazardous household waste was received
and dealt with appropriately. “Hopefully
this year we’ll see an increase in both the
number of people taking advantage of
this excellent free service and the volume

broadband and our state highways and
other transport infrastructure.
“The question is how do we pay for
that? If we borrow it, we are going to
build up even more debt to foreign
lenders and put New Zealand at greater
risk of a potential ratings downgrade.
We’ve asked Treasury for advice on
extending the mixed-ownership model,
like that used for Air New Zealand, to
four other state-owned enterprises.
This means the Government on behalf
of taxpayers would retain a majority
stake and offer a minority shareholding
to Kiwi investors.
This would free up capital to invest
in other vital assets and give New
Zealanders more chances to invest in
large and proven companies. We’ll
make our final policy on asset ownership
known well before the election.
“The Savings Working Group
delivered its final report last week.
We will carefully consider its
recommendations and any decisions
are likely to be included in the Budget,
which will have a theme of savings
and investment. This year is about
building a brighter future for New
Zealanders and their families, and our
comprehensive economic plan is a vital
part of that. “
