Since 1959, Paul’s Motors has been keeping cars running in Poughkeepsie by pro-
viding maintenance and repair services, helping those whose vehicles break down on
routes 9 and 9G and aiding AAA members throughout Dutchess County.
“Listening to what customers have to say, addressing each problem, being courteous
and solving problems,” says Dean Scagnelli, is the key to running a successful service
station for half a century.
After retiring in 1994, founder Paul Scagnelli passed down the business to his techni-
cian sons, Dean, who assists customers as a service writer, and Daniel, the shop manager.
Along with five ASE-trained employees, the two owners keep the 16-bay facility, with 11 Founder Paul Scagnelli, owners Dean and Danny and their
lifts and two service trucks, an essential part of their community. tech team stand proudly outside of Paul’s Motors.
The shop specializes in undercarriage repairs, including power steering and automat-
ic transmission services. Paul’s Motors also offers computerized wheel alignment and engine analysis and uses the Mitchell 1 electronic
database, which automatically generates service reminders for customers.
Paul’s Motors has forged relationships with customers by consistently meeting their needs and donating to local organizations such
as the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and Marist College.“We have a lot of long-term customers, from mom and dad, down to all the
kids,” Scagnelli says.
