This document provides guidance on insulin administration including:
1. It describes different types of insulin (rapid-acting, short-acting, intermediate-acting, mixtures), brands, routes of administration, timing, and mixing instructions.
2. Rapid-acting insulins should be given within 15 minutes of a meal. Intermediate-acting insulins can be given individually or as part of a mixture.
3. Insulins should generally not be mixed except in certain pre-mixed formulations. Instructions are provided for drawing up insulin when mixing is allowed.
