Ans 1. Intelligence is determination of level of intellect or sharpness of person’s mind.


This is the technical side of a human. It is the traditional and a relatively old and well
known phenomenon. The concept of Emotional Intelligence or Emotional Quotient,
however, is relatively new in the field of Psychological Research. Emotional Quotient
(EQ) relates to the ability or skill to understand, evaluate and manage the emotions of
one’s self and others. The concept of EQ was popularized in 70s and 80’s and has been
explored further since.

Emotions are an integral part of EQ. Emotions may arise from internal or external
stimulants which enkindle some needed actions to survive in the given circumstances.
Thus important factor of developing EQ is to be have awareness, control and
management of one's own emotions, and then those of other people. EQ has 2 main
aspects:
a) Understanding self
b) Understanding others.
Thus the process of developing one’s EQ can be summarized in these steps:
1. Knowing your emotions.
2. Managing your own emotions.
3. Motivating yourself.
4. Recognizing and understanding other people's emotions.
5. Managing relationships, i.e., managing the emotions of others.
The EQ concept argues that IQ, or conventional intelligence, is too narrow; that there are
wider areas of emotional intelligence that dictate and enable how successful we are.
Success requires more than IQ (Intelligence Quotient), which has tended to be the
traditional measure of intelligence, ignoring essential behavioral and character elements.

Ans 2. Social is the ability to conduct yourself in public. Social competence is the skill
set of being able to do that. As part of a social structure, one learns from a very young
age the aspects of self conduct and social conduct. To be able to interact with others is
one of the most important aspect of social competence. People with appropriate level of
social competence enjoy many benefits like:
1. They are respected by many
2. are well accepted in society

Some of the factors that improve a person’s social competence are:


1. Empathy – it is the ability to understand others. It is important to understand what
others are saying and going through.
2. Listening Skills – this is the easiest way to improve social competence. It is
important to be an audience and listen and respect others point of view.
3. identifying areas of improvement in self – it is important that we evaluate
ourselves on a regular basis to understand the gaps in our skillset and constantly
try and improve them.
Social competence makes people more tolerant of different perceptions and perspectives.
It also adds to the knowledge as interaction with people and listening to them is a very
rewarding activity.

Ans 3: Self Worth can be defined as the confidence and satisfaction one has with self .
There are many ways to develop self worth:
1. Dress Sharply – how we appear has a deep impact on how we think about
ourselves and on our confidence.
2. Thought Process – it is important to control and modify thought process from
negative thoughts to positive thoughts.
3. Posture – Confidence reflects through a persons posture. When tired most people
tend to slouch whereas when confident our body language is much straighter. One
of the simplest ways to improve self worth is by improving posture.
4. Metal and Physical Health – Health has immence impact on self worth. We tend
to question our abilities and worth when down with health issue. It is also
important to get into regular exercise sessions to keep body and mind fit.
5. Walk Faster – Confident people tend to take longer steps and walk faster whereas
those with less confidence take shorter steps and walk slower. It is important to
check how we walk.
6. Smile – it is another easy way of boosting self image. Smile not only helps self
but also others.
7. Respect others – it is important to respect and listen to others. It not only
improves social competence but also adds to self worth.
8. Finances – finance have a deep impact on one’s self worth. Financially troubled
people often low on self worth.
9. Communication – good communication skill is a reflection of confidence. It is
important to improve on one’s communication.
10. Evaluation of Self – It is important to know and understand self skills and
knowledge. Knowing self is surest way to boost confidence.

Ans 5
a) Self control is the ability of control one’s emotions and reactions. It is the ability of an
indicidual to remain calm and collected and still be able to think radically. Some people
are inherently have self control qualities where others have to develop it. It xcan be
developed by using various measures like:
1. Understand emotion – the first step to be able to control an emotion is to first
understand it. A lot of times when we feel angry or depressed it is the manifestation of
some other underlying emotion. Thus it is important to first understand self and self
emotions.
2. Controlling negativity – stress is one of the leading causes of negativity in life. It is
important to control and check negative thoughts and emotions.
3. Emotional energy – it is important that one’s emotional energies are utilized and
channelized.

There are many benefits of self control these are:


1. people with self control are well accepted in social circumstance.
2. such people tend to be more successful
3. it makes such people great leaders as they are able to think radically even
in difficult situations rather than give impulsive reactions.

b) Optimism stands for everything positive and hopeful. Optimism is the ability to see
positives in every situation. It’s the ability of learning from bad experience and to be able
to move on. Some people are inherently optimistic whereas other develop it by training,
spiritual trainings and other methods.

Some of the factors that affect the optimism of an individual are:


1) Family environment – a healthy family environment often results in optimistic attitude
2) Physical health – healthy people tend to have more positive and hopeful attitude than
those not healthy.
3) Economical conditions – financially stable people tend to have more optimistic views.
4) Social environment – Social environment around a person also affects the person.

Persistence is one of the biggest quality of a optimist. It is the belief that something good
will happen in the end. Or the ability to see glass half full than empty.

Ans 7. A leader is a person who influences a group of people towards the


achievement of a goal. Some people are naturally good in some of the
characteristic that a leader should posses whereas other develop it in
themselves. Some of the chacteristics of a good leader are:
1. Dynamic - Most good leaders are captivating. They're charming individuals and
they tend to draw people in with their personalities. They are excellent a building
relationships and demanding performance from their peers
2. Self Control – Good leaders are often in perfect control of their emotions. Their ability
to take decisions in difficult situations is what separates leaders from followers.
3. Knowledge - Good leaders are strategic, wise and perceptive. Good leaders are
constant learners which adds to their knowledge.
4. Compassion - Good leaders have compassion for their supporters or employees.
They have great coaching and development skills.
5. Communication – one of the essential of becoming a good leader is good
communication skill – verbal and written. Great leaders in history are often
popularized by their speeches.
6. Integrity – Good leader is one who people find reliable and as such are
dedicated to them

Ans 9. Emotional competence will play a crucial role in success of an individual.


research demonstrates that emotional intelligence is a better predictor of
“success” than traditional measures of cognitive intelligence (IQ). Main
elements of emotional intelligence are:

• Self awareness
• Managing emotions
• Motivation
• Empathy
• Social skills

Significance of emotional intelligence are as follows:


1. Self Awareness – EQ adds self awareness to people. Self awareness
results in identifying the areas of improvement and thus results in self
confidence of an individual.
2. Self Management – Awareness leads to better management of self.
People become more motivated and are driven towards goals and
achieving them.
3. Social Awareness – Awareness towards emotions of self generates
capability to understand others and their emotions.
4. Social Competence – People who understand self and others develop
better social competence.
5. Relationship management – it helps in building new relationships and
mainataining them.
6. Complete picture – it helps in understanding the complete person. IQ
only reflects the cognitive side of a person whereas people are
governed primarily by their inherent nature and behaviour over IQ.
Thus EQ must be evaluated and understood to understand the
complete individual.
7. Motivation – awareness of EI leads to higher motivation since people
are able to understand each other.
8. Conflict Management – It becomes easier to manage behaviour and conflicts if
one understand EI. People react in a certain and predictable fashion in certain
situations thus awareness helps in managing and avoiding conflicts.
9. Team work – EI leads to team spirit amongst co worker since there is a mutual
feeling to respect and gratitude.
10. Cr e a t i v i t y – When people are emotionally happy they tend to use
the energy into productive and creative tasks.
11. Health – Better state of mibd leads to better physical and mental health
and fitness of an individual.
12. Ou t l o o k / O p t i m i s m – It makes a person positive and optimistic.
13. Co m p a s s i o n / E m p a t h y – It makes a person empathic,
appreciate
and honor others' feelings.
14. Intuition and Gut Feeling – it helps in developing and managing the
intuitions and gut feeling in a person
15. Self Worth – It boosts the self worth in an individual.

Ans 10. Emotional Intelligence can be generated and is affected by many external factors.
Some of the factors that helping improving the EQ in workplace are:
1. Understanding self – The first to developing EQ is by understanding self and the
emotions that we experience. One can use methods like Johari window to
understand self and how he / she is perceived by others.
2. Job Satisfaction – one of the most important factors of improving EQ at work is
by enhancing job satisfaction. People need to be challenged from time to time to
keep their emotions channelized.
3. Motivation – As per Abraham Maslow Motivation is a 5 step process –
(i) Physiological needs
(ii) Safety need
(iii) Belonging Need
(iv) Recognition need
(v) Self actualization need.

It is important that managers and organizations keep on addressing the employees


motivational needs.
4. Conflict management – conflicts are part and parcel of life. However it is
important to resolve conflicts to acquire a higher EQ level. If conflicts are not
timely resolved it leads to negativity in organizations.
5. Team Spirit – It is important to develop the sense of belonging in employees. The
emotional attachment towards company and its values helps in attaining higher
EQ.
6. Good Leaders – it is important that organizations have good leaders. Any
organization is as good as its leaders. Organizations are often reflective of their
leadership. The emotional temperament of any organization is as good as their
leadership team. Thus it is important to have leaders with higher EQ.
7. Policies – though EQ can not be developed through policies however
organizational policies definitely affect the EQ of an organization. Organizations
with humane policies tend to have higher EQ than others.
8. Transparency – it is important for developing EQ to have a system which is
transparent. Too much secrecy or if people are largely unaware of other actions
and work they tend to become insecured and thus lowers one’s EQ.
9. Communication – Communication impacts the general EQ in any organization.
Better the communication within organization higher the level of EQ.
10. Growth and development – EQ is also a skill which can be learnt and taught. To
improve EQ it is important that organizations conducts awareness and training
sessions for employees.

Ans 14. Mahatma Gandhi is the charismatic leader that we as Indians have grown looking
upto. The values and teachings of Mahatma is still form an integral part of our
constitution and lifestyle in general. What made Mohandas Mahatma are his charismatic
traits, teachings and his great ability to preach only that what he practices. Some of the
traits of this great leader of history are:
1. Simplicity – “The greatness of this man was his simplicity” is how history
described Mahatma Gandhi. He led a simple life.
2. Truth – a lawyer by profession Gadhi chose to be on the side of truth and fought
for those who were right and not for monetary or personal gains.
3. Non Violence – Mahatma Gandhi practiced truth and non violence as a principle
of his life. He was a vegetarian and did not harm even those who were opposed to
him. He thereby popularized a new way of life, popularly known as Ahimsa.
4. Dignified – Gandhi is known for his calm and composed exterior. In times when
India was struggling for freedom to be able to conduct oneself in that manner was
commendable.
5. Great Speaker – Mahatma Gandhi had the ability to keep people spell bound by
his speeches. He was the first leader who was able to bring the entire nation
together by affecting millions through his immense capability to public speaking.
6. Spiritual – Gandhi was a spiritual person who respected all religions and religious
faith. This trait alone made him popular amongst followers of all religions.
7. Respectful and Soft Spoken – Mahatma Gandhi was known for his warmth. He
was respectful towards all irrespective of their class, caste or religion.
8. Educated and Wise – He was an educated man who had seen world and had
experienced various perspective. This made him a knowledgeable man and helped
shape his thought process and principles of life.
9. Social Awareness – Mahatma Gandhi not only worked for the freedom of the
nation he was also connected with his followers and repeatedly took measures to
uplift the rural and uneducated India.
10. Work for Others before Self – Mahatma Gandhi worked for people before self. He
was charitable and hospitable and was empathetic to oppressed class of life.
