    The Mobile Mayor and City Councilmembers commented on the Air Force's decision to not select EADS North America's proposed KC-45 aircraft for its aerial refueling tanker program. While disappointed, the Mayor said Mobile put forth a united effort and will seek other economic projects. The Councilmembers expressed beliefs that EADS offered the best aircraft and that the decision fails the military, and some predicted that the KC-45 would ultimately be chosen due to its superiority.

    Mobile Mayor Sam Jones: 
     
    “Though  we  are  disappointed  about  the  decision  today,  we  know 
    that  EADS  has  the  best  aircraft  and  Mobile  is  the  right  place  for 
    manufacturing  it.  Mobile  put  forth  a  united  effort  that  will 
    hopefully lead to other economic development projects. We’ve got 
    to  respect  the  Air  Force  decision  and  move  on  because  further 
    delay puts our military in jeopardy.”  
     
    Mobile City Councilmembers Comments 
     
    Councilmember Bess Rich 
      
    ʺThis  is  one  instance  where  the  best  engineered tanker  and  plane 
    along  with  the  host city  for  manufacturing and  its  outstanding 
    workforce did not prevail. And time will prove this right. We are 
    still the winners.ʺ 
      
    Councilmember Fred Richardson 
     
    “Martin Luther King, Jr taught us that ʺTruth, though crushed to 
    the earth, will rise againʺ. It may appear today, that we lost the bid 
    to build the tanker. But like truth, I predict that the KC‐45 will rise 
    again, to take its place as the premier fighting tool of the future. 
    Time will tell that I am right.” 
     
    Councilmember Jermaine Burrell 
      
    ʺThis is disappointing news for our city and region. EADS‐ North 
    America is better positioned to provide high quality refueling 
    tankers to our military. The collaborative teamwork established by 
    the public and private entities during this bid process remains 
    unmatched and will prevail to ensure that our service men and 
    women receive the best tanker as they fight every day to defend our freedom.ʺ

    “We are grateful for all the efforts of so many people!  We are not 
    the losers, our military is.” 
     
     
     
     
    Councilmember Gina Gregory 
     
    “Today was not a victory for our military men and women, they 
    will suffer because of this poor decision.  EADS offered the best 
    tanker in the Air Force competition –  it is proven and tested, while 
    the competitor’s was little more than an idea on a drawing board.”

    ʺWhat a disappointment...the leadership of this nation and its 
    defense procurement system have failed the warfighters‐‐it is as 
    simple as that.ʺ
