This information will guide you through the installation of the astraia Database.

This installation CD contains:

• astraia installation: The latest Windows setup dialog for the astraia Database. A runtime of
Java 1.4.2 is installed. For users who want the full functionality of a Java Runtime, including the
Internet Explorer plug-in and the ability to run other Java applications, a Sun Java 1.4.2
executable is provided in the /java directory.
• Sybase installation dialog: A copy of Sybase SQL Anywhere Studio 9.0.2 is included. The
installation of this is dependent upon having purchased the required number of concurrent
licenses from astraia. Please note that this is the Authenticated Edition of SQL Anywhere, which
will not work with any software other than astraia. Run the installation program and select
Personal Server.
• astraia manuals in English and German can be found in /docs. These are in PDF format - a

Important note: an astraia network installation requires a license for 2 or more users. Running astraia
on a network without a network license is certain to damage your database.

Important
• If the file server does not meet the above specification (e.g. Linux) please be sure to inform astraia
(astraia Contact Details) before the installation to discuss any questions
• Please inform us which database you want to have installed. For Sybase SQL Anywhere, which has
been purchased directly from astraia, you will get technical support. We can not offer any support for
MS SQL Server or Oracle further than the connection to astraia.

Remote access
For immediate support and system update we strongly recommend you supply us with remote access to
the server.
The current System Requirements and the System Requirements for the Network Server and Client can
be found on our website (www.astraia.com) in Products - System Requirements.

astraia Network Server Installation

Important: Please note an astraia network installation should only be undertaken by the
respective system/network administrators or individuals with equal computer and/or
networking expertise.

Step 1. Insert the astraia 1.17.74 CD into the CD Drive of the computer which is to be the server. It
will start automatically. If not, open the explorer, open the CD drive, which is labeled "Astraia 1.17.74"
and click on "autorun.exe".

After you have chosen to install the full version, you will be asked to select the language to use during
the installation. Select the proper language and click Ok.

On the next screen, you will see which astraia version you are about to install.
Once you have pressed 'next' you will be asked to accept the license agreement shown in order to
continue the installation. Please read it carefully and choose "accept" if you agree. If you do not accept
please press "cancel" and then terminate the installation.

On the next screen, please select "Network server installation". Press "next" to continue.

Choose the installation directory. You can either accept the default path (recommended) or you can
click on "Browse" and select the directory you want to install the astraia application to.
Please specify now, how much memory should be available for the astraia Program (64 MByte for the
program without image viewing, 200 MByte for the program with image viewing). Press "next" to
continue.

In the following screen, you will be asked, which database you want to use. You can chose between
Sybase (European)", "Sybase (Unicode)", which allows all characters,
"MS SQL Server", "Oracle 7/8" and "Oracle 9/10". Press "next" to continue.
Specify the name of the Start Menu folder, where you want to have the astraia shortcuts.

Press "next" again, on the following screen, you will see a summary of your selected options. Press
"install" to finish the installation.
On the next screen you should be told that astraia has successfully been installed. Here you have the
possibility to start astraia directly after the Installation by activating the checkbox. Click on "Finish" to
terminate the installation.

Step 2. Install Sybase as a Network Server and add a Sybase service (see Installing Sybase as a
Network Server).

Step 3. Start astraia and enter your network license (see How to enter the astraia Network License).
Open the "Administrator"-Tab in "Options", and change the database URL so that instead of
'localhost' you specify the name of the database server machine (replace 'localhost' in the URL with
'SERVERNAME').

Step 4. Installing the Network Client Version. On each client on which astraia will run the Network
Client version needs to be installed:

Insert the astraia CD Version 1.17.74. It will start automatically. If not, open the explorer, open the CD
drive, which is labeled "Astraia 1.17.74" and click on "autorun.exe".

On the next screen, please select "Network client installation". Press "next" to continue.
Choose the installation directory. You can either accept the default path (recommended) or you can
click on "Browse" and select the directory you want to install the astraia application to.

Then you will be prompted to input or browse to the astraia Server path which contains the
"astraia.jar". It could look like this: "\\Server\Astraia\astraia.jar"

Note: If individual clients do not have a CD drive install the "Network Client" version directly from the
server. In order to do this the setup.exe file (on the CD in the "Windows\VM" Folder) needs to be
copied to a folder on the harddisk of the server. The installation is analogous to the above (Step 5).

Step 5. You must ensure that a backup of your database is run at least daily. Even if your server is
backed up on to tape or DAT the database file is 'live' and cannot be directly copied. The simplest way
to do this is to configure and start the astraia Backup Service.

Therefore you have to open the astraia Services and select "Configure" next to "Database Backup".
Afterwards you have to specify the backup path of your database backup, the name of the database
(normally astraia) and the server name. Then chose how often you want to run a backup, we
recommend daily, and when you want to run it. If possible, the database backup should be done before
the server backup. Now press "Run" in order to test of the backup works. If you now press "Start" in
the Service Manager, the backup service will be installed and run even after restarting the computer.

The description above applies to Sybase, but with the exception of steps 2 and 5, applies to Oracle and
SQL Server installations as well.

The Sybase installation provided includes a Netware version. We have not tested this, although there is
no reason why it should not work perfectly well with astraia.

Update an existing astraia Network Server Version

Everything described in the following section refers to the astraia Server installation:

If you want to update an existing astraia Network Version be sure to stop and start the database
service(s) before running the update. To do this start the Program Sybase Central ("Start",
"Programs", "SQL Anywhere 9", "Sybase Central") find the astraia database service and stop this
via the menu or the right mouse context menu. After you are sure that the service has stopped, please
analogous to the stopping of the service, start it again. Note: A service in Sybase Central is symbolized
as stopped with a red traffic-light, and as started with a green traffic-light. If you have more than one
astraia service running please make sure all of these have been stopped and started.

It is strongly recommended to backup your astraia installation folder before you continue
updating!

If you have a previous astraia Demo or Full version installed on the and have entered and saved any
patient data, reports or similar we strongly recommend that you make a back-up of your entire Folder
"Obgyn" before installation or update. To do this simply copy the Folder "Obgyn" by marking it and
simultaneously pressing "Ctrl" and "C" and then pasting it ("Ctrl" and "V") in a separate 'safe' Folder
(we would prefer you to name this pasted folder 'Obgynxxyyzz' ('xx' being the year, 'yy' the month
and 'zz' the day of the installation e.g. "Obgyn070124" for the 24th of January 2007). Note: If a
database has been installed and a service of this is active, it must be stopped before a back-up can be
made.

Important: Please note that astraia will not be held liable for any data deleted or lost during
the update process or use of the application. If there is any doubt please contact us at
astraia and we will gladly assist you (see astraia Contact Details).

Insert the astraia CD Version 1.17.74. It will start automatically. If not, open the explorer, open the CD
drive, which is labeled "Astraia 1.17.74" and click on "autorun.exe".

To start the installation click on "install". After this please choose "full version", you will be asked to
select the language to use during the installation - click Ok.
The installer wizard appears showing you which version of the astraia software you are updating to.

Once you have pressed 'next' you will be asked to accept the license agreement shown in order to
continue the installation. Please read it carefully and choose "accept" if you agree. If you do not accept
please press "cancel" and then terminate the installation.
On the next screen, activate the "Update a previous installation" option and click on "next".

Choose the directory in which the existing astraia version is installed. You can either accept the default
folder (if this is where your previous astraia installation is) or you can click on "Browse" and select the
respective directory. Press "next" to continue. The installation wizard will tell you the previous
installation type, if it has found an existing astraia installation in the selected path.
Specify the name of the Start Menu folder, where you can find the astraia program.

Press "next" again, the setup will then stop the running services. After having stopped the services,
you will get the summary and information about your services (if they existed and if they have been
stopped).
Press "install" to finish the installation. On the next screen you should be told that astraia has
successfully been installed. Here you have the possibility to start astraia directly after the Installation
by activating the checkbox. Click on "Finish" to terminate the installation.

Start the astraia application; you will be asked if you want to update your database. Click on 'yes' and
the update will start. This may take a few minutes. After the update is finished, click on 'OK' and
proceed as normal.

For security, the astraia folder can be made read-only. The folders .config and .log under astraia must
be accessible to all users for reading and writing. Each astraia client machine creates and updates a file
called astraia_XXXX.properties in the .config folder (where XXXX is the client machine name); all
astraia users have a similar file, named user_XXXX.properties.

Error reports are stored in the .log folder.
