Diana (a Campus Crusade staff member at University of Nevada - Reno) was having a conversation with

a UNR student at a local Starbucks. Her name was Megan, and she said, “My biggest fear about God is that if I
were to die tomorrow, I don‟t know if I would end up in heaven or hell”. Megan, like many other Christians,
was taught growing up that we must perform for God. Her misconception about God‟s love was not allowing
her to fully enjoy His free gift of love and salvation. Diana explained to
her that Jesus does not call us to perform, but that when we allow God to
guide us, the Holy Spirit shines through us directing our actions.
While Diana and Megan were chatting, a guy sitting next to them
overheard them, walked over and said “Hey, I was wondering if I could
talk about religion with you guys because I love getting into conversations
about it and I need to kill some time…” His name was Abe and he
described himself as agnostic. Abe said, “I don‟t think that people should
get to heaven without being „good,‟ and how can „bad‟ people get to
heaven?” Just like Megan, Abe was confused about performance and
God‟s love. Diana talked to him about how being a follower of Christ
means we follow Jesus‟ examples in the best way we humanly can. God
does not require perfection because we are inherently sinners, and that was
why God sent Jesus to die for our sins. When Abe left, he thanked them for the religious conversation and said
he had been trying to figure out what he believes and how much he enjoys spiritual conversations. How
wonderful is it that we have a God whose love we don‟t have to earn! “For by grace you have been saved
through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may
boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

On a personal note, Rachel‟s cardiologist recently diagnosed her with Wolff-Parkinson-White

syndrome. Thankfully, this is easily curable through a “catheter ablation.” The date of her surgery is March
2nd. We are praising God that this condition was detected and the surgery is non-invasive and low-risk!
From both of us,
