Preamble

The purpose of the Thai Connection is to allow the Thai community and those
who are connected to or who are interested in anything related to Thailand or Thai
culture to experience this culture and share it with one another; to build a Thai
presence on campus so that everyone can experience the art, food, and overall
culture of the Thai people and Thailand; and to educate the CSUN community
about Thailand and its culture. Thai Connection is most basically intended to
serve as a connection between Thailand and the CSUN community.

Article I Official Name


The official name of the organization is Thai Connection, California State
University, Northridge.

Article II Membership
Section 1: Student Access
Any person currently enrolled as a student at CSUN and fulfilling the membership
requirements of the organization may be a member.

Section 2: Non-Discrimination Statement


In accordance with State law and the regulations of the California State
University, no organization shall discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion,
creed, gender, pregnancy, marital affiliation, sexual or affectional orientation, age,
ethnic origin, citizenship, nationality, veteran status, or disability.

Section 3: Membership Requirements


Any student enrolled at CSUN may be a member of Thai Connection.

members versus paid active members. Paid active members may participate in
any event without paying. Unpaid members may participate in any event, but
may be required to pay (e.g., if a function is held at a restaurant, Thai Connection
Paid Active Members will have all meals covered, but unpaid members will have
to cover their own portion of the bill). Non-members may participate in certain
events, but may not be able to participate in others, or may not be made aware of
events about which all others members will be notified.

Section 4: Privileges of Membership


Paid Active Members will be invited to participate in specified events without
paying. Not all events may be covered for Paid Active Members by Thai
Connection funds. Regular (non-paying) Members will be required to participate
in any event, but may be required to pay more often than Paid Active Members
(e.g., if a function is held at a restaurant, Thai Connection Paid Active Members
may have all meals covered, but unpaid members will have to cover their own
portion of the bill). All members shall have the right to be notified of all
functions. No members shall be excluded from any functions, events, or meetings
(excluding meetings that are purposely intended to be held privately between Thai
Connection officers, meetings which may or may not include advisors).
Article III Officers and Advisors
Section 1: Official Positions

Section 2: Officer Qualifications

Pursuant to CSU Executive Order 969, the president, vice president, and treasurer
are additionally required to meet the following requirements:
Minimum Academic Qualifications—The president, vice president, and
treasurer must be matriculated and enrolled at California State University,
Northridge with a minimum overall 2.0 grade point average each term (term is
defined as Fall and Spring semester). The student must be in good standing and
must not be on probation of any kind.
Incumbent Unit Load—Undergraduate students in the role of president,
vice president and treasurer are required to earn six (6) semester units per term
while holding office. Graduate and credential students in the role of president and
treasurer must earn three (3) semester units per term while holding office.
Incumbent Maximum Allowable Units—Undergraduate students in the
role of president, vice president and treasurer are allowed to earn a maximum of
150 semester units or 125 percent of the units required for a specific baccalaureate
degree, whichever is greater. Graduate and credential students in the role of
President and Treasurer are allowed to earn a maximum of 50 semester units or
167 percent of the units required for the graduate or credential objective,
whichever is greater. Students holding more than this number of units, including
students pursuing a double major, will no longer be eligible.

Pursuant to Executive Order 969, a CSUN faculty or staff advisor will be chosen
at the start of each academic year. The university advirsor will be required to sign
all campus documents.

Article VI Finances
Section 1: Account
This organization, pursuant to its charter obligation, shall maintain an agency
account with the Associated Students for the official conducting of University
business.

Section 2: Usage
All monies of this organization shall be deposited in, and disbursed from, this
account following procedures outlined by the Associated Students, Inc.

Section 3: Dispersal of Funds


Should this organization become inactive, including the failure to apply for
university recognition annually, the agency account will be handled in accuracy
with the procedures of the Associated Students.

activities for the academic year, finding the cost per participant, and then adding a
small amount of buffer for that cost that will, essentially, serve as a deposit from
which extra funds can be drawn, if necessary, for that individual’s participation.
Dues are not required but, if paid, make more services available to members who
will thus be deemed Paid Active Members.

Article VII Committees

submitted to the Matador Involvement Center within 90 days.

Upon ratification by a (¾, ¼, etc) vote of the membership, and approval from the
Matador Involvement Center and the Associated Students, Inc., this constitution
shall become the official governing document of the organization.
