Astrology Statistical Research
Investigating the 9th Harmonic for Natal Analysis

Introduction
I started studying astrology in 1993. After many years, I found that the information gained from the
1st Harmonic chart was incomplete and often inaccurate when interpreted in a traditional manner. This
led me to a long search of experimentation guided by intuition. In 2005, I discovered the power of the
9th Harmonic and have been refining its use ever since.
This report is a statistical study on the 9th Harmonic of the Tropical zodiac. It is meant to demonstrate
the effectiveness of using this information to discover vital knowledge about human beings and life
events.
What is Astrology?
Astrology is a subjective science which attains personal information from the conditions of objective
reality. In scientific terms, this has historically been the definition of superstition. However, science
itself is discovering, through Quantum Physics, that our consciousness plays a vital role in the
objective conditions of life. In other words, how we see life influences what we see in life. This can
be understood on a personal, collective, or universal level. Further, Astrology proves the Quantum
theory that the phenomena of the universe is a cohesive whole which is organized in an intelligent,
meaningful manner. Could planetary phenomena be used to gain personal information if they were
separate, random and not part of a cohesive system?
Why the 9th harmonic?

The 1st harmonic has shown itself to be unreliable as a consistent methodology. What works in some
cases does not work in others. We need a demonstrable set of consistent techniques to be developed in
order to make use of the great potential of atrology and establish it as a science.
Unbeknownst to most people, astrologers have been attempting to discover new techniques for
hundreds of years. None of which has been statistically verifiable. As a result, faith has been the
bedrock of astrologers. This has led to astrology’s disrepute amongst scientifically minded people.
I have discovered that reading the 9th harmonic chart using the planets in signs and in aspect to each
other shows the detailed dynamics of the consciousness of the person. The 1st harmonic can show the
surface personality of a person, but not always, and it can never be analyzed systematically planet by
planet. As a result, astrologers reading 1st harmonic chart have relied on their judgement and intuition
to filter out which planets are in effect and which are not.
Why the Tropical zodiac?

There are two sign systems which human beings can experience: 1) the 12 solar signs of the Tropical
zodiac – which is the day system, and 2) the 27 Nakshatras (lunar signs) of the stellar sky – which is
the night system. Two systems: one solar, one lunar. The Tropical zodiac is based on the positions of
Earth relative to the Sun which creates the seasons. In this zodiac, Aries begins where, from our view,
the Sun is at the Spring Equinox. The Nakshatras are based on the daily positions of the Moon relative
to the constellations in our galaxy which seem to form a circle around our solar system.
This study is done using the 12 signs of the Tropical zodiac since I am more familiar with this system.
In addition, the non-specific starting point of the stellar zodiac makes it difficult to study with such a
mathematically exact calculation as the 9th Harmonic.

How did I conduct this study?
The statistical analysis for this project was done by compiling the frequency of planets by sign and by
aspect for each category. The study contains 64 categories ranging in size from 100 to 1300
birthcharts of people. The birthcharts were attained using the Astrodatabank which contains almost
28,000 people in total who are sorted in many biographical categories. The certainty of birthdata is
also noted. The chart data was then sorted using JigSaw, an astrological research program, and
analyzed using Microsoft Excel.
Each item was analyzed using a Normal Distribution. This allowed me to compare expected values
versus actual values in a meaningful way. If the value for the item was outside 95% (the orange areas
in diagram), it was considered significant. If the value for the item was in the upper or lower 1%, it
was considered very significant. As you will see, many items in many categories are in the very
significant range. In addition, they are most often in accordance with what astrological theory would
have predicted.
For aspects, I used conjuctions, oppositions, and squares using a 6 degree orb. (Which, in the 1st
Harmonic, occurs every 10 degrees with a 40 minute orb.) Since certain aspects naturally occur less
than others, I had to adjust their expected values to find meaningful results. Those were Sun, Sun-
Mercury, Sun-Venus, Saturn-Neptune, Uranus, Neptune, and Uranus-Chiron aspects. (Control group
shown in Appendix 1)
In each category, I first summarize the major findings. I divided the findings between highly frequent
and highly infrequent for both signs and aspects. The descriptions are meant only to be suggestions for
analysis since detailed descriptions can be found in many astrology texts. This is followed by a
summary table listing all relevant findings. The sample size is listed in the upper left corner of this
table. The raw data tables for both planets in signs and in aspect are then displayed.

Planets in Aspect
For frequent aspects, a p value of less than 5% is used. For infrequent aspects, a p value of less than 5% is used (on the left tail of normal curve).

Adopted/Abandoned
In this group, the sign of Libra and the planet Mercury have the most influence. This shows
up as either a high frequency or infrequency depending upon the nature of the planet
involved. Libra is the sign of relationships and Mercury is the planet of communication and
mental development.
Strong Jupiter in Libra (1 in 902):

This position indicates a great amount of energy put into developing relationships with others.
The indication here is that being adopted causes one to put an extra effort into bonding with
those around them. Presumably, this is due to the lack of an innate feeling of connection with
family members.
Pisces Strong:
Pisces is the sign most connected to the feeling of loss and a lack of structure. Pisceans
often find themselves either cut off from others or in helper roles. Either of which could be the
result of being adopted or abandoned by ones birth parents.
Frequent Saturn aspects:

Saturn aspects indicate conservatism, restriction, discipline, fear of change. People with
frequent Saturn aspects seek to have very stable and long lasting situations in their lives. An
initial shock of separation from ones parents could cause such a characteristic.
Infrequent Mercury-Jupiter aspects (1 in 375):

This aspect is traditionally associated with great enthusiasm for talking and learning. The lack
of this aspect indicates that those who are adopted or abandoned tend not to be highly
confident communicators or learners. It could be inferred that this would be a result of being
raised by people that they could not have immediate rapport with or having developed a lack
of trust in their early environment.
Infrequent Mars aspects:

A lack of Mars aspects indicates the lack of Martian qualities such as initiative, vigor,
aggressiveness, impulsiveness, spontaneity. An initial difficulty in life could inhibit a person’s
trust in life and willingness to assert their individuality.

This indicates a highly critical, insecure home environment. As a result, these people often
have low self-esteem and difficulty feeling good.
Chiron in Gemini strong:

This would indicate a wound originating in one’s early environment, often by siblings,
relatives or friends. This creates a pattern of difficulties trusting and learning about one’s
surroundings resulting in learning difficulties.
Aries weak:
This would indicate that people with strong aggressive tendencies are not as likely to be
recipients of abuse, presumably, because they do not make easy targets. Arians do not have
a victim consciousness always believing themselves to be conquerors.
Pluto in Capricorn weak:

This indicates a lack of a powerful authority figure such as father to protect them from
perpetrators.

Child Performer
Neptune in Libra strong:

They are able to cast a considerable spell upon others and are often seen in an exaggerated
light. Their relationships are based upon glamour and illusion and are often subject to
confusion and loss.
Frequent Venus aspects (1 in 208):

Venus is very influential in this category. Venus, the planet of love, causes child performers
to be very likeable people from an early age. This is important for them since they have not
had time to develop other attributes through maturity and education.
Frequent Venus-Uranus aspects (1 in 766):

Venus-Uranus aspects highly frequent indicates a highly original and interesting way of
interacting with others causing them to stand out in a crowd.
Infrequent Mercury aspects:

They are not highly mentally inclined. They tend to forgo schooling in favor of a career,
favoring their charming personality characteristics over their mental development.

Child Prodigy
Cancer strong (1 in 2175):

Cancer is very strong indicating a deep connection with early life and family conditions.
Cancers often thrive as children when conditions are safe. They also tend to have very
supportive parents and families.
Mars in Libra strong (1 in 945):

Mars in Libra is also very strong indicating a tremendous force applied in relationships. This
may be what is responsible for getting the skills of these young geniuses recognized.
Neptune in Cancer strong (1 in 945):

Their family lives are a source of inspiration. Often, there is a confusion or blending of the
parent’s goals with the child’s goals.
Leo weak:
Leos are able to stand on their own as leaders and examples, in their own good time. Child
prodigies shine due to the support of their families, and, therefore, succeed early in life.
Frequent Venus aspects:

Child prodigies have very strong Venus qualities similar to Child Performers. Both have a
very strong Venus-Uranus. However, the Venus-Sun aspect is much stronger here.
Frequent Sun-Venus aspects (1 in 323):

They identify themselves based on their popularity and relationships. Often, they have a great
artistic sense of sense for beauty.
Frequent Venus-Uranus aspects (1 in 200):

They appear highly original and unique to others.
Frequent Moon-Uranus aspects (1 in 429):

This indicates a highly unusual early life. It also indicates a highly eccentric and brilliant inner
life which could be best expressed in private conditions or early in life.

Aquarius strong (1 in 235):

As opposed to Leos, who love being childlike, Aquarians enjoy guiding people with their
ideas, taking responsibility for the development of others.
Sun in Aquarius strong:

They identify themselves based on their ability to guide the development of others.
Mercury in Libra strong:

They think great deal about relationships, always considering the thoughts and interests of
others in their thinking.
Mars in Leo strong (1 in 321):

They put a great deal of energy into romance, creating and producing children.
Aries, Gemini weak:

These types enjoy lots of freedom. For Aries and Gemini, parenting could be seen as burdon
restricting their freedom and preventing them from pursuing their goals.
Frequent Venus aspects:

They highly value relationships with others and enjoy surrounding themselves with many
people. They are also very skilled at creating and preserving harmonious relations.
Frequent Venus-Saturn aspects (1 in 392):

Saturn represents parenthood and its contact with Venus causes these individuals to enjoy
this role. This aspect also causes them to be very careful about choosing a partner. They
prefer stability and predictability in relationships, perfect conditions for having lots of children.
Frequent Jupiter-Chiron aspects (1 in 647):

They are uncomfortable with traveling and don’t like to be on the move, pursuing freedom.

Appendix 1 – Nationalities
I did a study based on birth location with some interesting results:
Brazil: Jupiter aspects were frequent (1 in 766).

Brazillians are known for their enthusiasm.
Brooklyn: Taurus strong (1 in 1,142) and Sun-Uranus aspects were frequent (1 in 493).
Brooklinites are known for being tough and independent minded.
France: Water signs strong (1 in 928). Mars in Cancer strong (1 in 200). Saturn in Pisces
strong (1 in 1,145). Fire signs were infrequent (1 in 362). Moon-Saturn aspects were
frequent (1 in 294). Mercury-Venus aspects were frequent (1 in 235).
France is known for its artists and chefs shown with the water signs. The lack of fire
and strong Moon-Saturn indicates the melancholy the French are famous for.
Germany: Sun in Aries was very strong (1 in 5,095).

Germans are known for their aggressiveness.
Italy: Moon-Neptune aspects were frequent (1 in 354).

Italians are known for their passion and romance.
Netherlands: Water signs strong (1 in 331), especially Cancer and Pisces. Neptune in
Cancer was very strong (1 in 1,529).
The Dutch are known to be very considerate. Also, their country is under sea-
level.
Manhattan: Pluto in Cancer very strong (1 in 29,900,039).

Venus-Pluto aspects were frequent (1 in 792).
Manhattanites are hard workers with powerful families and connections.

Appendix 2 – Additional Categories
The following categories were not included in the main body of the report due to a lack of
range in the birth times. This resulted in a skewed distribution for the outer planets (Uranus,
Neptune, Pluto). Therefore, I will only mention the results for the faster moving planets in
these categories.
Birth Defects: Cancer strong (p = .96), Sun in Scorpio strong (p = .997), Saturn aspects
frequent (p = .98), Mars-Jupiter aspects frequent (p = .996)
Cancer relates to family and home-life issues. Sun in Scorpio indicates a self-
image of struggle and conquest. Saturn aspects indicate limitations.
Infant Mortality: Chiron in Pisces strong (p = .9995), Chiron aspects frequent (p = .994)
Chiron is the planet of the wounded healer. It’s placement in Pisces indicates
wounds which result in loss.
Lesbians: Jupiter in Taurus strong (p = .996), Chiron aspects frequent (p = .98)

Jupiter in Taurus indicates a philosophy of physicality and sensuality.
Chiron aspects indicate woundedness.
Out of Body – NDE’s: Saturn in Virgo strong (p = .999), Saturn in Capricorn

strong (p = .995), Venus-Saturn aspects frequent (p = .998)
Saturn in the earth signs indicates restriction or burdons due to the
physical body.
Transvestites: Saturn in Virgo strong (p = .998), Sun–Mars aspects frequent (p = .997)

Saturn in Virgo indicates difficulties with the physical body. Sun-Mars aspects
indicate struggles with one’s sexual identity.
Twins: Mercury in Cancer strong (p = .9995)

This is an indication of a great amount of communication and interaction in the
family.

Appendix 4 – Sample Reading
I place the two Harmonic charts side by side, similar to a Vedic page. On the 1st Harmonic, I look for
planets on the Angles, conjunctions, and stelliums. On the 9th Harmonic, I analyze all planets by sign
and aspect then observe the elemental and modal balances.
On the 1st Harmonic chart, Saturn in conjuct Pluto in Leo (near the Ascendant) indicating great
controlled power in personal creative pursuits. Besides this, the planetary positions do not convey a
powerfull Hall of Fame football hero (or the great difficulties he had with Nicole Brown).
In the 9th Harmonic, the Sun is conjunct Mars in Scorpio indicating a highly aggressive, intense
individual. Venus is conjuct Pluto and Chiron in Cancer indicating he is highly co-dependent,
controlling and woundful in relationships. His Moon is in Aquarius indicating an ability to detach from
his emotions and the emotions of others.
In 1993-1994, when O.J. Simpson experienced the life altering events with Nicole Brown, there were
no important tranits to his 1st Harmonic chart. However, Pluto was conjuct both Mars and the Sun, in
the 9th Harmonic, during this time.

Appendix 5 – Control Group
This table was used as a basis to compare with the birthchart data used in the categories. It is the data
from 10,000 charts at regular intervals from 1/1/1900 to 1/1/2000. On the right, are the adjustments I
made for the aspects which were at extreme tails of the normal curve.

Appendix 6 – Definitions
Aspects (used in study)
Aspects measure the amount of angular separation between two planets on the zodiac circle. They
create a synergistic relationship between the two planets and have a prominent influence in the person.
Conjunctions: planets are in same location (within 6°)
Oppositions: planets are 180° apart (within 6°)
Square: planets are 90° apart (within 6°)
Moon
The Moon shows your habitual nature or subconscious patterns of behavior. While the Moon can show
your natural strengths, it can also depict your weaknesses which need to be overcome in order to be
successful in life. The Moon depicts your personal roots, your home and family. The Moon tells about
your emotional nature and basic needs and is the key to how you experience intimacy in relationships.
Sun
Your life goals are linked to the Sun. It gives you an indication of how you can shine in your life. You
will feel truly alive when you're living the traits indicated by your Sun. Therefore, it's likely that you
will spend much of your life on a journey to self discovery, aiming to incorporate these traits into your
life.
Mercury
Mercury tells us about your communication and learning habits and your modes of thinking. It stands
for the intellect, common sense, cold reason, commerce and business. Its position and aspects tell us
about your academic schooling and learning through life experience.
Venus
The planet Venus tells about love and relationships. It reveals the type of relationships you value, and
what you are seeking from your most intimate relationship, as well as how you like to show your love.
This planet depicts how you like to relate to your environment and other people, not just your primary
partner. It also indicates what you value, and therefore is linked with money and resources.
Mars
Mars is the planet that tells us about your assertion and drive to dare to do something. It tells how you
function in a competitive, pressurized situation; your stamina, determination, how you experience
conflict and risk. It also shows how you behave sexually.
Jupiter
Jupiter is the planet of expansion, abundance and wisdom. It highlights the areas in which you
experience enthusiasm and confidence. Therefore, it can also be linked to excess. It's position indicates
where you trust in life, your ideals and values, and your search for and discovery of personal meaning.
Saturn
The planet Saturn represents responsibility, boundaries and structure; structure that provides a positive
framework within which you can build, or structure that limits your development and forces you to
reassess your liabilities and assets. This planet is also linked with your ambitions, and how you
approach the practical side of life. This planet often represents the professional side of your life.
Uranus
Uranus represents originality and unconventionality. This can be the unusual and brilliant genius or the
willful rebel without a cause. It tells us the areas in which you break with convention, become
innovative and experiment with new and exciting ways.
Neptune
Neptune is the planet of creativity and spirituality. It shows where you experience blissful peace and
confusion which comes from not knowing limits and boundaries. It blurs reality and fantasy and,
therefore, shows your tendency for imagination and escapism. This planet also represents how you can
be of service to others or be burdened by others.
Pluto
The planet Pluto indicates where you seek control and how you use power. It challenges you to
transform your life by clearing out codependent or subversive habits to make way for new, more
rewarding ways of living. The process isn't necessarily an easy one, as most of us cling tenaciously to
the comfort offered by habitual patterns, and are rather scared of new paths. Pluto shows us in which
areas of life you need to let go, and to a certain extent whether you're likely to find the process painful
or joyful.
Chiron
Chiron, the Wounded Healer, represents our emotional and physical wounds. It reveals a part of us that
is hurt, small and vulnerable. We are encouraged to heal our wounds through analysis, and then look
beyond personal realms, to see the suffering of others, and to become teachers and healers.

Biography
I was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 27, 1971 at 3:35pm. After attending NYC public schools, I
gained a BA in Applied Math from Brown University and an MS in Math Education from Brooklyn
College. I have 6 years experience in the research department of Merrill Lynch and 4 years experience
as a high school teacher.
I currently live in Brooklyn with my wife and daughter and have been studying astrology for 15 years.
