EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Being a management trainee at sahara care house my objective of study was:

• To study on the strategic approach adopted by sahara care house to stand strongly
in the competitive service industry.
• To compare the plans of sahara care house with the plans of other competitors
plans.

The study of knowing the strategic approach of sahara care house is done by knowing the
key approach adopted by sahara care house and the way marketing done by them to
attract the customer base.
To give a strong base to my study I researched about the all the aspects through
which sahara is doing its marketing about the plans and policies of sahara care house.
The study regarding the comparison of plans of others like Tata AIG, ICICI Lombard etc
is done by comparing each plan provided by sahara care house to the plan which is almost
similar to the plan provided by the other competitors.
Through this research I have studied the different aspects of policy making and
attracting the customers:
• Firstly by making the plan according to the need of customers as in common.
• Secondly by adjusting the price of premium according to the age of user.

LEADERSHIP

My Biggest Achievement in Life “I’m very proud to be the Guardian of

The world’s Largest Family.”

"Saharasri" Subrata Roy Sahara

Managing Worker & Chairman
Sahara India Pariwar

In business profit earnings and overall growth of business get the highest priority and are
certainly creditable, but ultimate credibility of business enterprise, particularly of larger
ones is in the utilization of profit, be it for best possible enlistment of its workforce and
for espousing Social, National Development causes or for rendering services to mankind
as a whole. Fulfilling the Qualitative aspect of utilization of profit, the world's largest
family ‘Sahara India Pariwar' is proud to have reached today new horizons of growth and
development.

On the basis of our philosophy of Collective Materialism we have always given

importance to the fact that profit earning is the Quantitative aspect whereas the proper
utilization of profit is the Qualitative aspect. Ironically, we only recognize and get
recognized by the Quantitative aspect.

I, therefore earnestly appeal to one and all in Politics, Media, Business etc. that
every action, reaction, selection, appreciation or criticism should be oriented strictly
towards the Qualitative aspect. I appeal to anybody and everybody to accord top priority
to Qualitative aspect in anything and everything for peaceful, prosperous and progressive
co-existence of mankind anywhere and everywhere.

Today, I feel proud of the fact that I am the Guardian of the World's largest family.
Perhaps, I am the world's only person whose family is so vast, so disciplined, so dedicated
and so committed. Such a vast family as Sahara India Pariwar has a grand and infinite
future and I am sure that we will sustain our duty, consciousness, discipline and
dutifulness with a sense of dedication, as we have always done in the past, so that

together we could build an India full of energy and radiance.

INTRODUCTION OF PROJECT

CONCEPT
A study on the strategic approach adopted by sahara care house to stand strongly in the
competitive service industry. Like what are the various marketing issues related to the policies
provided by the sahara care house and how does it affect the selling level of the sahara care house
and how it is different from the other companies policies. Here I am going to find out what type of
customers are preferring the policies according to their occupation and income level and also let
me understand the efforts that a service provider company sahara care house make to meet the
customers’ demands/requirements as well as making reasonable business.

OBJECTIVE OF STUDY

Obective of Internship at Sahara Care House

The objective of the summer internship is to get the first corporate exposure which helps a student
in understanding the corporate culture. However taking up the summer internship with Sahara
Care House has been not only a learning but also a cherishing experience. The summer internship
was interesting as well as challenging in its own way. The following came under purview of the
SIP:

• Understanding the concept of service industry.

• To know the organization culture.
• To learn how to convenience the customer for buying the policies
• To learn the process to fill up the form and the required documentation.

In a service Company where policies are sold what can be the objective for a trainee?
Yes, it has to do with sales. My SIP was about selling the policies to customers.
The Sales task involves generating leads to recognizing the need of the plan suiting the customers
and finally helping him/her in meeting their objective. Finally converting the lead and getting the
form filled by the customer.

• Identifying: Identifying the customer base for plan contacting the customers and
fixing up meetings with the customers.
• Relationship Building: This is building relationship with the customers.
• Choosing the appropriate Plan: After discussing the Financial status the
39
appropriate plan is chosen depending on the need of customer.

• Closing the Deal : After the above mentioned steps the following things are done :
• Master Form: The deal is finally closed by completing and signing the form and
attaching the documents required.
Once all this is complete the forms are submitted at the Office and the receipt is handed over to
the customer.

COMPETITORS

Research Methodology

Research methodology is away to systematically solve research problem. In it we study

the various steps that are generally adopted by researcher in studying his research
problem along with logic behind them. It is necessary for a researcher to know not only
the research method/techniques but also the methodology. It may be noted, in the context
of planning & development that the significance of research lines in its quality and not in
quantity. Researcher should know how to apply particular research techniques, but they
also need to know which of these methods or techniques, are relevant and which are not,
and what would they mean and indicate and why?
Meaning of Research
“Research is common parlance refers to a search for knowledge. In fact research is an act
of scientific investigation.”
The project was divided in to the following steps.

To decide the Objective of the study

To decide research design and

application

To decide the sources of data

collection

To collect and organize data

To decide from data collection

To prepare the research report

1. To decide objective of the Study:-

To process and analyze report

41
This step is also research problem. Problem definition is the most critical part of the
research process. Research problem definition involves specifying the information needed
by management. The main objectives of the study are:
• To Create the Awareness of SAHARA CARE HOUSE, among people.
• To find out the level of customer satisfaction with the Plans, offers discount and
services offered by SAHARA CARE HOUSE.
2. To decide research design & application:-
Research design involves defining the research problem, determining how to collect the
data and from whom, establishing the way the data will be analyzed estimating costs and
the preparation of the research approach. For this study, descriptive research was selected.
3. To decide Source of data there are two sources of data
 Primary Data
 Secondary Data
Primary data:-
Primary data is the original data collected specifically for the problem.
Reason for selecting primary data:-
In terms of primary data a questionnaire has been used to interview desire sample units
that give accurate and up to data information as well better to research problem.
Research approaches: - Primary data can be collected in five main ways: through
Observation, focus groups, surveys, behavioural data, and experiments.
Research instruments: - Marketing researchers have a choice of three main researches
Instruments in collecting primary data:
 Questionnaires: - A questionnaire consists of questions presented to respondents
for their answers. Because of its flexibility, the questionnaire is by far the most
common Instrument used to collect primary data. Questions can be open-ended or
closed Ended.

Secondary data:-

42
Data potentially useful in solving a current problem but that were collected for a
different purpose.
Reason for selecting secondary data:-
Secondary data can be gathered quickly and inexpensively, compared to primary data, it
is clear useful to study analyzing the recent development in the industry.
Contact methods: - Once the sampling plan has been determined, the marketing
researcher must decide how the subject should be contact:
 Mail questionnaire: - The mail questionnaire is the best way to reach people who
would not give personal interviews or whose responses might be biased or
distorted by the interviewers. Mail questionnaires require simple and clearly
worded questions.
 Telephone interview: - Telephone interviewing is the best method for gathering
information quickly; the interviewer is also able to clarify questions if
respondents do not understand them. The response rate is typically higher than in
the case of mailed questionnaires.
 Personal interview: - Personal interviewing is the most versatile method. The
interviewer can ask more questions and record additional observations about the
respondent, such as dress and body language. Personal interviewing takes two
forms. In arranged interviews, respondents are contacted for an appointment, and
often a small payment or incentive is offered. Intercept interviews involve
stopping people at a shopping mall or busy street corner and requesting an
interview.
 Online interviews: - There is increased use of online methods. There are so many
ways to use the Net to do research. In this method, researcher can include a
questionnaire on its Web site and offer a people to answer the questionnaire.

4. To decide from of data collection:-

For this project survey method was selected which was carried through person interview,
online interview’s and Testimonials by the past and present user or members of

43
SAHARA CARE HOUSE, because information from different customers where
required for the analysis.

5. To organize & collect data:-

Once the researcher has formulated and development a research design including
Questionnaire second thing he has to decide whether he has to collect the information
from all the targeted customers. There can be two types of survey are possible.
 Sample Survey
 Census Survey
“For this project sample Survey was chosen”
Characteristics of the sample survey are:-
 It is cheaper than census survey
 It requires less time
 It is economical
 More detail information can be collected
 Deciding the sample plan requires following decisions
 Sample unit “Who is to be surveyed”
Sample
Sample is the true representation of the population by studying of the sample we can
predict the behaviour of the population.
Sample Size: 60 (in this case)
Method of Sampling:-
In this project, the survey was done within the market that means probabilistic
convenience Sampling was carried out.

6. To process & analyze data:-

After the data was collected it was tabulated, analyzed and interpreted to the conclusion
reach.

44
Techniques Applied

Bar Chart: - A chart in which the length of the bar represents the amount of the item
associated with the bar.
Pie Chart: - A circle divided in two sections, such that each section represent the
percentage of the total area of a circle associates with one variable.
Types of Research
Along with this there may be 3 type of research methodology these are :-
They are –
 Exploratory Research
 Descriptive Research
 Casual Research
“Our research is based on the exploratory research.”

76
STRATEGIC APPROACH ADOPTED BY SAHARA CARE
HOUSE

PROCESS – DIRECT SELLING

Direct Selling Operational Model and Commission Structure

All products and services are generally sold through distribution channels. These
distribution and advertising costs range between 25% -50% of the product cost but
products get sold generally on the basis of recommendations made by existing users or

77
experts. But recommendations don’t fetch any money to the recommender. The
power of recommendation is so strong in some businesses that they live or die on this
basis, of which cinema is the finest example
If we are somehow able to pay the recommender for recommendation one can Imagine of
how strong a market of a product or service can be

STRATEGY - Direct Marketing Strategy is that once costumer has consumed a product
he automatically becomes a distributor and when person recommended by him buys a
product he gets a commission on the same.

“Direct selling is the sale of a consumer product or service, person-to-person, away from
a fixed retail location. These products and services are marketed to customers by
independent salespeople. Depending on the company, the sales people may be called
distributors, representatives, consultants or various other titles. Products are sold
primarily through in-home product demonstrations, parties and one-on-one selling.”

MULTILEVEL MARKETING

Multi-level marketing(MLM), (also called network marketing, direct selling, referral

marketing, and pyramid selling) is a term that describes a marketing structure used by
some companies as part of their overall marketing strategy. The structure is designed to
create a marketing and sales force by compensating promoters of company products not
only for sales they personally generate, but also for the sales of other promoters they
introduce to the company, creating a down line of distributors and a hierarchy of multiple
levels of compensation in the form of a pyramid.
The products and company are usually marketed directly to consumers and potential
business partners by means of relationship referrals and word of mouth marketing.
MLM companies have been a frequent subject of controversy as well as the target of
lawsuits. Criticisms have focused on their similarity to illegal pyramid schemes, price-
fixing of products, high initial start-up costs, emphasis on recruitment of lower-tiered

salespeople over actual sales, encouraging if not requiring salespeople to purchase and
use the company's products, potential exploitation of personal relationships which are
used as new sales and recruiting targets, complex and sometimes exaggerated
compensation schemes, and cult-like techniques which some groups use to enhance their
members' enthusiasm and devotion. Not all MLM companies operate the same way, and
MLM groups have persistently denied that their techniques are anything but legitimate
business practices.

78
LIMITATIONS OF THE PROJECT

• People like to buy those plans which are generally promoted more through
advertisements and in case of sahara care house plans they don't use
advertisements so to motivate people to buy their plans becomes more tough.

• Sahara care house does not give tax redemption as against most of the competitors
give to its customers.

79
• Plans offered by sahara care house doesn't provide much variety where as other
competitors provide more then one plan in same category like in mediclaim.

RECOMMENDATIONS

• Sahara care house does not do any marketing of their plans through advertisement
or any other media which affects its awareness among people and thus
dependence upon current customers to add on more customers through them is too
much. Thus I would suggest sahara care house to use the benefits of advertisement
to market and increase the awareness of its presence in the market.
• One major advantage that the other competitors take over from sahara care house
is of providing tax redemptions benefits that sahara care house is not providing so
80
I would suggest sahara care house if they provide tax redemption then it will
give them a clear cut advantage over the other competitors.
• The claim amount given by sahara care house in its plans is fixed to same one
amount where as other competitors provide different claim amount for same plan.
Thus I suggest if sahara care house plans gets a little flexible they will get the
benefit as some people requirement for insurance amount is more which will be
then provided by other competitors.

CONCLUSION

The information and findings based on the research done regarding the plans
offered by sahara care house and comparing them with the plans offered by the other
competitors is done successfully and it has been found that all the plans offered by Sahara
care house are unique in themselves and are even better then them in most of the ways.
Just a little bit changes and adding some more features as suggested in the
recommendations and adding them to its plans will make it one of the best.
As the summer internship training was basically a field job of selling the plans
offered by Sahara care house which gives me a good amount of experience while facing
the corporate sector practically. The plans offered by Sahara care house teaches me
basically the manner in which one has to deal with the customers. The selling job itself
teaches a lot especially when it is related to the selling of medical related policies ,
vacation vouchers etc.
81
At last I would like to say that the summer internship was totally beneficial
to me and helps me to understand the selling job. The experience was totally
knowledgeable and thus making me use to of corporate life.
