Centralized Automated Child Vaccination Management System

Functional Overview

Problem Statement

In India, due to illiteracy many parents either do not understand the importance of providing
timely vaccinations to their children or keep forgetting the due dates of vaccinations during
their busy day-to-day work load. Because of this, many shall children suffer from either
temporary or terminal illness, which sometimes even leads to loss of life. This in turn impacts
the infant/child mortality rates of the country. Though government usually takes up a lot of
awareness programs to ensure that the parents are educated about the importance of
vaccinations, there is still a large gap in the vaccination programs actually reaching all the
children of the country.

Proposed Solution
There is a need for a centralized web based application to capture the data of all the children
during birth and scheduling a systematic follow-up procedure for the parents or care takers
regarding the vaccinations dates to the child based on the birth date. This application should
first take the parent's or care taker's information at the child birth along with the mobile
number and ensure that proper reminders are sent out via SMS so that they do not miss out
the vaccination date.

As mobile phones are widely used these days among the uneducated as well, it would be a
good approach to remind them via SMS.

Modules Involved
· Access management Module: Allows Admin users to setup access rights to
maternity clinic users and vaccination provider users.

· Maternity clinic profiles management Module: Allows maternity clinic users to

setup and update the clinic profiles along with the mobile phone details.

· Vaccination Provider profiles management Module: Allows vaccination provider

users to setup and update their profiles along with the mobile phone details.

· Parent/care taker management Module: Allows maternity clinics to setup and

maintain the details of the parents and care takers of the child during delivery along
with their mobile numbers.

· Child vaccination plan setup and maintenance Module: Allows Admin users to
setup generic vaccination plans as well as common child ailment prevention plans to be
used by all the children.

· Child Vaccination schedule fulfilment Module: Allows vaccination provider users

to update Child's plan with the vaccinations that they have provided via online or
through SMS.

· Child Vaccination query Module: Allows vaccination providers to query the history
of vaccinations provided to a child based on their unique identification number.

· Vaccination reminders Module: This module sends out the SMS reminders to all
appropriate parents/care takers based on their vaccination plan.

· Archiving and cleanup Module: Allows Admin users to Archive/Cleanup old data on
the system
