ISPF Command Extensions

ISPF Primary Commands

The following commands are available courtesy of the Umbrella Support group. These commands can be
issued from any ISPF command prompt.
To enable these commands, add the following commands to your TSO initialization CLIST (or REXX
exec):
EX 'UMB.TOOLS.REXXLIB(UMBRINIT)' EXEC
%ISPCTL
At CSC/Dallas, the @RXN command (in the standard command path) has been setup to issue the above two
commands.
NOTE: Product specific commands are only available if that product is installed.

Syntax symbols
UPPERCASE Enter string exactly as shown
lowercase variable operand, specify required value
{option1|option2} Select one of the listed options
[option] optional parameter
… the previous parameter may be repeated to specify additional items of the same
category

MRD Enablement
For functions marked MRD (Most Recent Dataset) enabled, you can substitute one of the following for the
dataset name parameter:
/ Pops up a window displaying the last eight datasets used with this function. At this point
you can do one of:
1. Place the cursor on the dataset desired and press enter to select that dataset.
2. Overwrite any entry and hit enter with the cursor on that entry, the new dataset name
will be selected.
3. Overwrite any entry with a period (“.”) and the dataset in that field will be selected
with the member name (or member name pattern) removed.
4. Overwrite any entry with “.member” and the dataset in that field will be selected with
the specified member name (or member name pattern).
. Substitutes the dataset (and member) last used with the function.
.member Substitutes the last dataset used with the function, with the specified member. The member
may contain wildcard characters.

Note that dataset fields on all Umbrella Tools panels are (or should be) MRD enabled.

whenever a dataset is accessed, it “floats” to top of list.

UMBrDS@C
UMBrDS@C (Dataset @ Cursor) allows you to perform actions against a dataset whose name the cursor
is located on. To use UMBrDS@C, define a PF key to invoke the following command:
TSO %UMBrDS@C [option]
Note: Since PF key definitions are application dependent, you need to do this within each individual ISPF
application that you want to use this utility in [i.e. EDIT (ISR), SDSF (ISF), CA-Librarian ELIPS (LIB@),
etc.].
To invoke this command, position the cursor anywhere on a dataset name on a panel and press the PF key
associated with UMBrDS@C. This will invoke ISPF BROWSE against the specified dataset (or the
member list utility if the dataset is a PDS).
You may override the default action by specifying a command on the command line. Valid actions are
those supported as WDSL line commands.
Note: This facility also works on GDGs that specify a relative generation number. Generations greater
than zero are translated down to generation zero.
