c I regularly attend a Sunni Musjid for JummahSalaah and Al-Hamdulillah, Salaat-o-
Salaam is recited after the Namaaz. It is my humble opinion that sending Durood and Salaam on
our Beloved Prophet after JummahSalaah is a must for those who possess love for him.
However the Salaami which is recited after Salaah is very lengthy andwe are working class
people who have to return to work. I believe that there is nothing wrong with reciting a lengthy
Salaami and it is extremely inappropriate to leave while it is being read. I have spoken about this
to the brothers concerned but to no avail. Please comment in light of the Shariah.

ë
Several prophetic traditions establish that people with needs should be catered for in
Salaah. Some of these Ahadeeth follow:

1. ëasoolullah has said, ³When any of you lead people in Salaah moderate it because they
are made up of the sick, weak and elderly. When any of you perform Salaah alone he can
lengthen it as much as he desires.´ Œ

c
Ñ. The Holy Prophet has said, ³I commence Salaah and wish to prolong it but then I hear
the cries of children. I then lessen my Salaah knowing that these cries are means of
unease for the mothers of these children.´ Œ
c
ÿ. Hazrat Anas narrates, ³I have never performed Salaah behind an Imaam more moderate
and complete than ëasoolullah. If he had to hear the cry of a child, he would lessen the
Salaah fearing the mother of the child being grieved by it.´ Œ

There are many Ahadeeth besides these supporting the same but we present only the above for
the sake of brevity. When command of lessening is given by ëasoolullah in a FardhIbaadat then
this directive should definitely be related toMustahab(preferable) acts also. Indeed returning to
work is a credible need that has to be accommodated. In fact returning to work to acquire
sustenance is a divine command from Allah ,

And when the prayer (Jummah) is completed, then disperse in the land.

has been interpreted by the Ulema as, ³One should disperse to seek
one¶s sustenance.´ Œ

The Khalifa of HuzoorHujjatul Islam AllamaHaamidëazaKhan , Muhadith-e-Azam Pakistan

AllamaSardaar Ahmed Qadriëazvi is reported by Hazrat MoulanaAbun Noor
MuhammedBasheer to have the habit of saying to Naath reciters at the time of Qiyaam (Salaat-o-
Salaam), ³ëecite two or three verses only.´Œ%&'()*

The wisdom in this command of HuzoorMuhadith-e-Azam Pakistan is explained as follows,

³Meaning that this Imaanenlivening recital of Salaam and the Qiyaam be completed within a
short space of time with total Khushoo and Khuzoo (concentration and presence of heart). By
this, no heart of those present will entertain the thought, ³Allah knows when this will end!´
Through such a thought, instead of reward, error will be accumulated.´ Œ+

May Allah grant the Ummah understanding of the Shariah, Ameen.
